    Pay

Touchy subject is pay, its made worse by the teabreak comparisons when they all start revealing what they earn to each other. This makes it even harder for an employer to give a lad that excels in his job a bit more for his efforts. Drawing comparisons in pay from employed/selfemployed climbers is impossible, a guy that turns up in his own truck with all his own kit that has years of experience is a world away from a nervous wet behind the ears freshman. If the lad that started the thread feels hard done by he needs to have a quiet chat with his boss and come to a different arrangement, its a very small world this and burning bridges is a mistake. Perhaps its time to go self employed. Bob
  2. The price of some of these locks would by a lot of dog food. Padlock vs land shark for security My money is with the dogs. Bob
  3. The rubbish was everywhere there were bikes, tyres, concrete and all sorts in there. Its all tidy now but we will be back there later in the year for another round of works so it will be interesting to see if the locals appreciate the tidy up or just carry on treating it as a dumping ground.
  4. You are sure of a big surprise. Its not just a Bear that dumps in the woods. Joe public thinks its ok to treat it like a free skip. Some of the stuff we gathered before the mulcher got it on a woodland Rhodi/Laurel clearing job we have just finished. Probably near three skips full in total.Ill bred heathens:thumbdown:
  5. Buy the cheapest padlock your insurers will accept because the Caravan Utilising Nomadic travelerS have proven after years of extensive scientific research that expensive is no match for a gas axe , bolt croppers or buzz saw. Bob
  6. Freelander vans are pretty good for clearance. Bob
  7. I spoke to him today and ideally he is after 30mmx150mm and the shortest he would want is 5mts. He will take 2 cu. Anyone? Bob
  8. Allianz , on the fleetplan and no age restrictions. Bob

  13. You guys in the west country and Scotland have definitely got the best views of unspoilt countryside . Not in the same league but its none to shabby here in Guildford. Back of this place. Bob
  14. With a machine like that I would have thought your best bet would have been to offer your services within the trade, just forward details of your machine with the rates and copy of insurance off to all the tree surgeons in the areas you are prepared to travel to. Bob
  15. Thanks for the stick Al, the mug stays where it is Bob
  16. 20` shipping container with enough space for a transit and chipper next to it with electric but nothing else so nowhere for chip or wood is £300 to £400 a month round here. Thats the price of security for you. Bob
  17. A couple of things, Maximum drawbar weight should not really exceed 3 tons and can the trailer drawbar ring swivel or is it just welded solid onto the drawbar? Bob
  18. Post some pictures of the thing and we can crucify it for you Bob
  19. John it reads like its more a combination of poor engineering , design and welding , not just the one thing. If you have paid for it to be done take it back and vent your concerns, its easy for us armchair welders and mechanics to comment but no one here has seen it. Bob
  20. What he is after is 30mm ish thick planking about 20` long and as wide as he can get so he can rip down himself. Bob
  21. A friend of mine is refurbing a boat and needs some pitch pine planking. Is there anyone out there that can accommodate him? Bob
  22. Yes please Al, throw it off at the yard if you want. Bob
  23. Valid point here, I had a blade fail from the same manufacturer , it burst through the casing of the chipper and launched into a wall. Had anyone been near that side of the chipper at the time they could have been seriously injured. On inspection of the bit left bolted in the machine it became evident that it had fatigued and cracked, you could see the rust in the cracked part and the break in the fresh bit. I contacted them straight away regarding this and they requested I return the blade/fragments for inspection, that was the last time I saw the blade/bits and no one has bothered to contact me since. I put a set of originals in and repaired the case, its been trouble free since. It may well have been something our lads stuffed through there that caused the fail but I feel they should have responded with an answer/metallurgists report. Bob
  24. I have ordered the barrel and piston, I will let you know how it goes. Bob
  25. I have two older MS880 that have been run on neat petrol ( dont ask) They both need barrels and piston, I tried to hone the barrels to clean them up but they are on borrowed time. I have found these after market barrel+piston kits but they are for the bolt on exhaust and mine are clip on, the question is will these fit if I buy a silencer that bolts on or are there other differences that need to be considered.
