  1. Get 30 31 38 and maybe chipper. Then try and get with a company that will give you some easy trees to learn on and if they like you hopefully they'll put you through some more climbing. Trailer licence is always a good qual to have too. But do bear in mind it takes at least 3 years to be anywhere near a decent climber. Best of luck.
  2. https://www.barcham.co.uk Have a look on this site. You can put in your requirements and they'll offer suitable trees. I'd personally go with a birch or something similar.
  3. Missus literaly had stick frozen peas and what not on me and squirt me with water until i was an acceptable temperature.
  4. Got heatstroke the other week. Wouldnt reccomend it.
  5. Started krav maga in feb. Its pretty tough. All about the eyes throat and balls then running the f##k away. Lots of cardio to warm up.
  6. Used to live and work in diss. Worked for waveney. My mate Joe is still kicking about up there give him a try. Joe rogers 07881365794
  7. I do love a dougie. My favourite scientific name to say too, just rolls of the tongue nicely. Pseudotsuga menziesi. Tis the biggest tree in england down in dunster near minehead measured in 06 at 197ft. Prob a lot bigger now. I climbed it a few years ago. Its also got the tallest magnolia in england right next to it.
  8. Recently bought the echo long reach hedgecutters. They've been really good so far and will is right very quiet. I like the handle on them more than the stihl. Cheaper than stihl is a bonus too
  9. ah debating from emotion rather than rational logic I see. I meant no disrespect to the armed forces but that being said, being in them doesn't mean your better than anyone else. and all those jobs you stated have been done and are being done by hundreds of people before and present nothing special there. They don't get millions a year or tax exempt status. My point still stands regardless that 4 people of the royal family have done a bit of military service doesn't rationalise how much they get or how obsessed msm is with them. I assume given your name on here that you were a royal marine? Tell me does the rest of your family work or do you get millions and tax exempt status because of your time served?
  10. Dont get it myself. Personally feel support of the royals is an odd form of stockholm syndrome where you've come to sympathise with your captors. Each to there own. But in todays society of equality, inclusiveness and equal opportunity its hard to rationalise having 1 family who do nothing but wave at people earn over 40 mil a year and then some just because they came out the right persons womb. But hey long live the saxa coburg gothas. ?
  11. Worst part is the bbc i.e you guys ( i dont have a telly) paid for it this time too. Personally i'd have some heavy hands in the garden when they do the confrontation bit. Does make me laugh laugh how fast they run.
  12. The way he spoke at the end sounds like he didnt even check what he was tied into. Prob just got a throw line and thought that'll do.
  13. Got a couple of days coming up where I need a pair of hands. First one is in bristol on tues. Couple of willows and a damson coming coming out and ground. Easy day just stacking the brash in the truck as im giving to a zoo for the giraffes. Second is on the 12th of may. For Ross on wye angling club. Lovely easy job clearing space so rods can be cast and cleaning up a few split willows. All brash stacked on site and there will be other club members there helping. I just need someone handy on rope and with a saw. Cheers
  14. Ah well i'm sure he could make the pedals wider for your 6 toes ?. Used to live in diss mate I know what goes on in the east. I dont have any of my van as I dont own it anymore and the photos are on a now deceased phone. I can ask the gf for some off her uncle and get back to you. But he does them to order and your spec so your only limited to your imagine and wallet.
  15. Where in the country are you? My gfs uncle converts vans for a living. For 25k you could get an all singing and dancing 1. He did a transporter t4 for me a few years ago and it looked great. Cost me 3k to do up. He's in south devon.
  16. Haha what are the chances. Im also looking for a few days in the bristol area. And have just finished a job for will at landscape services with green planet tree services. Nice guy. Best of luck. im finding it a bit tricky to fill my week round here atm. Seems companys arent looking for subbys which is odd as everyone tells me people are screaming out for them. Must just want you on paye so they can own your soul! Haha.
  17. that would be funny. He was an optician of all things. Had to hold back a laugh when he told me. Fair play to guy for wanting to have a go. But if i was a 50 yr old optician. Dont think tree surgery would be the career change for me. He was actually a nice guy and did appreciate the help.
  18. Our site was cleaned by us. And all our logs we chucked in their garden. Customer was happy.
  19. Been meaning to post this for a while now. First of all I'm not virtue signalling just genuinely curious if any of you have or would've done the same. So a few weeks ago now I was taking down a fir of some description. Wasn't my job I was just climbing. Roughly half way through a fella turns up and has a chat as he's cutting down a medium sized ash in next doors garden and wanted access to the rear drive for his trailer. Ok we said no problem. I know it sounds bad but we both looked at each and said he doesnt look like a tree surgeon. We thought mayb a gardener and he's having a go. We crack on taking down the tree and I keep 1 eye on him next door. The guy comes round with mechanic overalls on a helmet and a silky pole saw! I couldn't help but laugh a little and nodded to my mate to which he chuckled too. So he starts hacking off the lower limbs tearing them as he goes. Takes down the neighbours fence. Looking at me occasionaly to see if im not looking at him. Both him and the homeowner stared in awe as I dropped the easy peasy top out of the fir and came down for a cuppa. It's at that point where he must've thought hey they cant see me now. I'll just climb this without a harness or anything and keep lopping with the silky. But I'm watching him in the mirror of the truck and I'm genuinely concerned for him. After the tea break me and the guy I was working with agree we cant let him carry on so I go and tackle some cherries closer to him and spark up a conversation. Turns out he's just finished a 12 week course from otley college and thought he'd have a go. I asked do you have climbing equipment? No. Pl? No? 39? No even tho he had an ancient echo topper. I then tell the home owner that he'd be liable for damages or injuries to which he goes a bit quiet. I asked him what his plans are for the big high branch going over the neighbours window and shed were. Blank slightly embarrassed stare. Me and the guy then have a chat and as we have a full truck with loads of logs left on the deck. We say look you cant do this we dont feel good letting you do this and I dont want to see in the paper on monday a death or accident we can prevent. So we make a deal where we take down the tree if they sorted out all the logs so we dont have to come back. To which they jumped at. Prob took an hour at most if that. And I ticked off my good deed for the day. So my question to you guys is 2 fold. Would you and have you done anything similar? And how do you feel about colleges letting people out there thinking they're tree surgeons after 12 weeks? Sidenote. The guy was 50 odd and had a fulltime job. I'll give you 5 guesses what it was.
  20. Type your area into the search on this forum. You'll get old ads but give them an email anyway. I did that yesterday and have got a few emails back already. Or if you see any firms working around just go and speak to them.
