1. I'm now a proud member to. She's called Gertrude. I'm just in the process of fitting a tach clock to it to keep an eye on hours. Bought one off eBay, seems to work fine, just figuring out where to best install it. Where do you guys get the oil filters from for the engine? £23 from orange plant, local dealer £18. Oil filters for all my past vehicles never more than £7-8. How can such a little filter cost so much
2. Its a simple job, only need to be on the roof an hour with a chainsaw. Cant climb the trees as they are growing over the roof and the roof has a 4ft lip. So would still need to get to the roof to throw the wood down. I could use ladders but don't like heights on them. I could always ratchet strap a few sets of ladders to get up there I was hoping that there might have been someone local with a lift. Not to worry. I'll send the old man up the ladders and supervise from down below:)
3. Hi Is anyone based near Sunderland. I need to get access to the top of a storeys carpet shop roof for a couple of hours to cut overhanging branches which can't be cut from the tree or ground. I'll be cutting on the roof. Only need to be up there for 2 hours max. Guess 8m high. Cheers Dave
4. just out of interest is anyone going to this?
5. Sorry i'll try and qualify why its quicker for me anyway. I tried it on a industrial unit. I was mainly putting 2-3" stuff through it that was growing in shrub beds. Mainly self set bits. It pulls the small stuff in quicker, as its light to move around you can just keep pulling it to where you need it. No need to walk to the front, engage the drive and move the machine forward. Just pull it along where you need it. So as far as i'm concerned i would say that this machine would be quicker given this scenario. Of course if i was chipping bigger stuff than a larger machine would be quicker. I am a landscaper rather than a arborist so really don't have the need for the larger machine, when i do i hire one in with a operator. Also i've only ever hired the same tracked TW from the same person so can only go off that one machine.
6. I use world pay gprs unit. The main benefit I find with these types of unit is that you can take payment over the phone. I don't think you can with any of the ones you use with your phone. It's a important feature especially if you deliver where there isn't a phone signal I pay £22+vat a month for the terminal. 1.2% for credit. 16p for debit. I also think they look more professional
7. Just had one demo today. I'll be buying one. Really surprised how good it was
8. Just thought i'd add my 2p worth to the thread. I used to hire a tracked timber wolf 6" feed. I've had a CS100 on demo today. I'm a landscapers rather than a arborist so have no need for a bigger machine most the time. Today i used if for some Elder, dog wood, and some various other bushes/trees. I found that its quicker than TW especially with the smaller stuff, as its relatively light you can keep moving it you where the waste is. Its quieter too. Although i never had any big stuff to put through it handled 2-3" branches fine. I have been convinced to buy one and with 2 yrs interest free credit it makes it a bit easier to buy. I'll be hiring it out with a operator when it arrives. Its surprising what it can do
9. Hi This is a fairly technical post computer wise. I've just been updating my google places account. Under Business Category i was classed as a firewood supplier. However that category no longer exists. I can't seem to find a suitable one to meet what my business is. The closest is either a arborist or landscaper. Has anyone else updated has this issue?
10. Thanks. Ive looked at the ones that link to your phone and the main drawback is that you can't do telephone transactions should someone want to pay and not be in when i deliver logs. Likewise i don't want a purely internet based one as i want to be able to take payments when i'm out. I'm hoping to gain more customers by offering card payments esp credit cards when people have 0% offers.
11. Hi How do find world pay. I've just signed up. Got 7 days left to cancel if need be. from what I can find it seems good but would be good to hear your views. I'm getting the gprs one Thanks
12. Cheers for that. Seems a similar setup to what I'm hoping to achieve. although I'll hopefully be creating a more informative site as opposed to a l purely listing site. I will contact Steve to see about linking together for the listing side of things. . I've still lots of work to do on it. Hopefully it will be something that will help everyone
13. What's Steve's sub site?
14. Hi I've had a bit of a response. I'm working on the content. If you want a listing just send me your company name, website if you have one. A short description of what you sell and a town name where you want the marker to go. This is first come first served. Only one supplier per general delivery area If anyone has any good factual articles please feel free to send them over. Thanks P.S this isn't going to be a price comparison site as each area in the country has different pricing and competition. It just wouldn't work. It will be a comparison of different firewood on offer
15.
Firewood Supplier in the North East of England. Firewood from GD Logs in the North East - GD Logs

16. What rod and brushes did you buy? I get the impression that standard drainage rods would be a bit too stiff for lined chimneys with bends? Or will they be ok?
17. Hi Pretty much as the title says. Anyone offer chimney sweep service as part of their rounds. If so what training if any did you do if any? I'm considering offering a basic sweep for stove owners as a little add-on for my deliveries. 99% of my customers have 5-7kw stoves with liners. Or is this something i should leave to dedicated boys. I'm always looking for little extras to offer and business sidelines Thanks in advance Dave
18. P.P.S there are 1000's of wordpress themes out there. If anyone comes across a good one for this type of site please let me know. Thanks
19. Hi I'm in the process of creating a compare firewood website. Basically as the title says it will be a information site about the different types of firewood and there pros and cons. Seasoned vs kiln dried etc. I will be advertising my own firewood operation on there. (North East England) What i'm after is people in other parts of the country who want a listing on there., There will be no charge but will be restricting it to one supplier per area at the minute to see how it goes. I would appreciate some facts and figures to put on the website, those more willing to assist will get a more prominent listing and potentially a wordpress login to add to the site. I've no idea what sort of interest this site will generate but will give it a go. I'm hoping to have a basic layout online by the end of the night. Feel free to PM me with ideas / suggestions. P.S I'm still learning with wordpress so no advanced programming ideas please
20. Hi Having had some advice from landscape juice i'm offering part of my business to first timers/new people looking to start in the lawn care market. I started off with lawn treatments and my business has ended up going mainly commercial grounds maintenance. As such my lawn treatment side is getting neglected. I've a half decent website and would work well for someone who needs it to. I'd be aiming to work with someone who can run that side of the business with the option of taking over in the future. PM for details P.S i'm based in sunderland
21. Here is my new FSA 85 in action Stihl FSA 85: Seems to work well for what i need. Most of the time it's strimming round obstacles on commercial sites. This was just one of my domestic ones. Its just as quick as my petrol one. But it's quieter, lighter and starts straight away to name a few
22. I've got the ar 900 battery. I was lucky enough to find one second hand otherwise wouldn't have got it. But based on the amount of power used with the hedge trimmer a standard battery pack would probably be ok. Fitting a inverter in the van and running the charger between jobs would ensure plenty of power. I'll let you know how I get on with the sttimmer
23. Slightly more topic related. I've got the stihl back pack battery pack and hedge trimmer. It's so much easier quieter and lighter than the petrol ones. Also no issues with starting or refueling. There is plenty of power too. The battery pack lasts about a week or two depending on how many hedges. It's suppose to last 11 hrs which is a long time at full throttle. I'm going to buy the stihl strimmer in a week or so which I think is similar to the one your looking at. I'll post a review once I get it. So far I'm convinced with the battery powered tools
24. Looking at one of the directors. You have wood sure accreditation. Hetas accreditation and now this new one. Nothing like confusing people. You can have all the logos you like show the inspection team your best logs and then sell what you like. Fully agree not worth the paper they are written on
