  2. Hi Does anyone use the John Deere X540. I'm looking at the replacement model the X590. What are peoples views and alternatives. I'm looking at JD as there is a dealer not to far away from me. Thanks in advance
  3. As per the title. I've a few questions of anyone has one. Cheers
  4. A couple question regarding willow arches. What is the best way to maintain them once you have the basic shape? I look after a couple of them but can't find the best way to keep them looking good, they grow very fast. Do you keep them trimmed like a bush throughout the growing season then cut back to the original structure in the winter? Do you just let it do its thing then cut back? Or a mixture of the both? Any help would be appreciated
  5. This link should helphttps://www.pitchcare.com/message/message/90921
  6. Growth regulator can help the grass sustain being covered up. The amenity version is called primo maxx. Agg version modus. Depends on your field of use.
  7. Sorry to hijack the thread. Who or where did you get your ranger conversion? Thanks
  8. Thanks for the replies. Its not a money thing. More of a contract of employment thing. In the past i've not been paid for breaks and been expected to take an hour a day. I think i will base the week on a 45 hour week. Breaks included, 8-5 mon-fri. Early finishes where we can. Just most people seem to think full time is 37.5 hours.
  9. the trouble with an apprentice he's on a hourly wage, set hours per week, i'll have to ask the question about equating it to a day rate
  10. I fully apreciate that the 20 min rule is very mean, however do people on here pay their guys for the full shift. i.e 8-5 then 9 hours so 45hr week?
  11. From how used to work. It was 15 mins every 4 hours then 30 mins for lunch, all unpaid, that then makes up a 40hr paid week based on 8-5. I'm just confused as to what to class working hours as and what you pay when taking breaks off.
  12. Copy from gov.uk Rest breaks at work Workers have the right to one uninterrupted 20 minute rest break during their working day (this could be a tea or lunch break), if they work more than 6 hours a day.
  13. Hi I've just took on my first employee as an apprentice. Normally i've used subbies and pay by days rate, we work through the day and eat when on the road. What working week do most people use? I work on 8-5 Mon-Fri which works out at 45hours. Do people take breaks off that to 40 hours paid a week? 37.5hours seems to be a common week but what hours do you do to get that number I've had a quick look at working time regs and from what i can see he will get a 20 minute break each day which i don't have to pay him for. Your thoughts on this will be much appreciated
  14. Hi I'm looking at buying one of the above type mowers, 48" mulch deck. I've demo'd the Ferris and Hustler and prefer the controls of the Hustler and the lower price. Do any of you guys use something similar and what are your thoughts. It will be used on banks and will be owner operated. Thanks
  15. Noticed that the article was from Feb 2011, is there any up to date information regarding this? Did a quick search but didn't make much sense to me, certainly nothing further than that one article. However i only did a quick search
  16. For the past 4 months I've been paying £100+vat to a seo company. Biggest waste of money. I've done my own websites in WordPress and use the seo yoast plugin to optimise my website. I reached my level of expertise and thought paying a professional/expert would make things better. My search listings haven't improved. Hits to site haven't changed. I compare one website against the other I've got running to see if paying helped. I would suggest that if you read up on seo and are happy implementing what's suggested then there is no need to pay. If it's all a foreign language then maybe helpful to pay.
  17. I thought I was in the north being in Sunderland. It keeps the work varied though. Grass cutting, followed by log delivering and looks like I'll be Gritting at the weekend. All good
  18. As the title. I've cut the grass at one of my sites. The warm November kept the grass growing. I had a nice dry windy day today so took the chance to tidy a site up. Most of my sites are going to need a cut this month. Anyone else in the same boat?
  19. I have uploaded a video of my CS100 in action on youtube as there doesn't seem to be many showing what it can do very well. Any feedback would be good. Hopefully it will help people decide if its for them
  20. A quick question. How do you know how tight to tighten the belts on a cs100? I've tightened mine where I think they need to be but don't want to over tighten them Thanks
  21. What about a manual version Silky Hayauchi high pruning saw 6.3m | F R Jones and Son There hasnt been many jobs where I wished a had a engine helping me. Especially for the price difference
  22. I've only used it a few times at full reach and could have done with some deep heat and physio after
  23. Yeah it's a extendable silky. I use it all the time although I do need to replace the blade but they are about £50. I was raising tree canopy around the site hence the silkly. I did manage to stall the machine today but at least I know it's limits. This is the pole saw http:// http://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products-page/forestry-equipment/pole-saws-pole-loppers/extendable-pole-saws/silky-hayauchi-high-pruning-saw-6-3m/
  24. My Wee chipper setup, worked a treat at a retail site today, at least 2 8x4 trailer full worth of green waste processed. Would normally take 2 of us most the day with loading/ driving to green tip and unloading. Got all that i needed doing in half a day.
  25. With regards to pricing i've personally found that a lot of people go by the initial price and they are not too clued up about volume sold. Therefore i started to sell barrow bags at £35, 800mmx800mm bags at £65. That makes one of your crates worth about £140 in barrow bags or £130 in dumpy bags but the customer initialy sees either £35 or £65 for logs. Hope that makes sense.
