  5. So what sanders are you all using ,we have an expensive Mirka with its own hoover but as it was so so expensive we tend to keep it for flat sanding only we have had other sanders from Makita to Flex for contor sanding and going round corners etc and all of them just dont last ,we need a new one so we poped into our local tool shop Blandford Tools and they are nice guys in there but he just didnt have any orbital sanders he was saying that he just cant get good quality at any kinda ok price I know ebay is full of sanders but I thought I would ask to see what people were using and what people thought were Crap as always keen to hear what everyone has to say . Cheers. Mark
  6. Nice counter good job ,if the counter top gets too marked a sander with a hoover on it quick sand re oil ,job done. Good Luck with the shop
  7. Sadly not its a Thickness planer only I will try and get some photos of the thing today
  8. No matter how old it is ,its a real nice tree totally worth milling if it does come down but I would just leave it its totally cool
  9. Um no dont think its running backwards as it will take a very thin skim and yes I do polish the beds with Axminster machine wax its good stuff ,I will take some photos tomorrow just in case somebody is interested ,its not quite the same as the one in the manual but some bits are the same ,its a real shame the engineer we used killed himself
  10. Um no dont think its running backwards as it will take a very thin skim
  11. Hi not at my yard till Saturday but it has one big feed roller on the infeed side and an anti kickback rail then the big drum with the blades in and as far as I can tell its all working as it should the feed rollers have a fast/slow and that works the bed can be moved up and down by hand or power rise and fall all that works ,I measured all the gaps to make sure the bed was flat and it was ,could it be the knifes not being set right ? But cant see how that would happen as I have the setting tool ,it will take a very shallow skim and thats it but a big machine like that should chew through the timber day after day ,its totally doing my head in but over the weekend I will hopefully get a chance to download that manual and have a good read ,I rang the people who bought Wadkin and they were less than helpfull actually expected me to believe they didnt get any workshop manuals .
  12. Robina is that falce accaia if I remember right ,very nice timbed would love a few sawlogs of it for sure a real nice golden sheen in the sun .
  13. Hi yeah it used to work fine but now the timber gets kinda stuck and I have to lower the depth of cut to hardly anything before it will carry on feeding through .
  14. Yeah its a cool feeling seeing the boards you have milled used in something just like the office I am doing at the mo ,went to the woods collected the logs Coast Redwood and now all milled planed sanded and jointed and going up on the wall ,some photos in Woodcraft if anyone wants to see .
  15. Hi does anybody know much about big old Wadkin planers my 24 inch wide one just isnt right and sadly the mobile engineer who helped me with it before killed himself , I have just changed the blades ,renewed the funny clutch plate thing but its just not planing I tried to put a short Apple wood board through it and it woudlnt take hardly anything off it I had to drop the table as it got stuck and its the same with other timbers when I first had it ,no worries and nothings changed so a bit baffled any ideas ? Thanks. Mark
  16. Yeah something like that would be a god send in my yard for sure but everything I see like that is stupid money
  17. Yeah was thinking OSMO UV or a water based lacqure ,wax polish would be cool but it would take so long to do
  18. Hi yeah first cut all the boards the same width, then thicknessed then surface planed one side then orbital 120 grit then half lapped the edges so by that stage the edges only needed a quick go with the hand sandpaper so in all a big job and cutting round the plug sockets and windows was a bit of a ball ache ,but not sure what finish to go with .Glad you like it a bit of a shame it didnt get many comments though
  19. With a bit of notice,Paul Courage at Hazelbury yeah we know he can be a funny bugger didnt speak to me for yrs but all good now.
  20. Hi Jon where did you get them from should have asked me for some but a shame you didn’t have time to pop in ,our cladding is Coast Redwood so it’s very pink and white but not sure what the treatment to use on it
  21. For some reason the colour seems off in the photos as its Redwood will check the settings on my camera and take some more ,
  22. So this has been a big job first we went to the woods and chose the logs then milled them dried them cut ,planned, sanded and now fitting them so now I will try and get some photos uploaded
  23. Thanks guys I am still not sure whether or not to make some
