  5. should have done in hindsight, would have really helped climbing from the other side. though I'm not a fan of spikes, I'm going to have to use them more and get used to them. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. probably could have done with a good feed after it happened, didn't really have much that day apart from some dried fruit and nuts. I need that little slack to get into position to enable me to reach round and get the other end of my strop to anchor in, it just broke before I could do that other wise I'd of been fine I think. Guess it was just one of them things. I keep thinking I should have made my way up the other side of the tree but it was awkward so decided against it haha I'm definitely going to have to explore other climbing techniques ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Has any one lost their confidence while climbing? If so, how did you get it back? Last week i did two days climbing, mainly dead wooding and a take down, even though the take down was just one limb and a re-climb to install a rope to pull it over with. The climb its self wasn’t very high, about 25ft or so, but awkward as every thing was leaning over and i had nothing to put my feet on to help prussik up the tree, as i got to the branch i had my rope over i only had a old previously pruned branch to try and pull my self into the main stem with, i managed to swing my self to the branch and slowly test it to see if was strong enough to hold my weight. it seemed sturdy enough so i climbed on, just as i was about to strop my self to the main stem it suddenly snapped clean off, taking me with it. I had about 2ft of slack rope, which resulted in a good swing and a very large brown trouser moment As a result my confidence took a big hit, i spent the rest of the day climbing but clinging on like a koala even to stuff big enough that you could practically run up on a good day. My balance and confidence were shot to bits, even though my kit held fast strong. Has anyone took a confidence hit, how did it affect you and how did you regain it? Ian
  8. haha sounds like a good place to be. I always open my bags once a week and just give them a little shake, also good to let fresh air in and check to see if it's damp enough, I've found mine tend to dry a little so always end up adding a few more drops of water. ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Dream CAR

I'm a massive GTR fan, for me it's got to be the R34 Nissan Z-Tune A very rare car, only 19 were made and I believe 1 or 2 of them were prototypes, chance to only be 17 in the wild, if they ever see out of a collectors garage. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. dose any one on here square sharpen their chains? pro's and con's ? is it just used for race cutting or suitable for every day use? is it just 3/8's that get ground this way... seems interesting ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  16. they were grown out side earlier this year, they developed really quick and strong but then just stopped and now are dying. the bigger older trees were grown over winter and spent the seedling stage on a window sill in my room. the soil was a god potting compost and a mix of mole hills from a field that's been stood for years. I can't think if or how it was possibly contaminated, but I won't rule it out. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. the echo stuff seems to be getting a lot of good reviews from folk on here. I can't comment on the sthil as I've never used one, I have the t540xp and like it, I've been lucky and not had the problems most people have had...... it dose run naff till it's warmed up though, that's my only gripe. ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  23. getting them to germinate is easy, keeping them alive can be a little tricky but it's awesome to see them grow, if you have a good place to plant them, knowing they will stand for 1000 years is pretty mad too. put a thread up and let is know how you get on mate ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. will dig the worst one up and check many thanks for that ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. The garden department should have vermiculite, think it's only about £3 for a 2ltr tub, lasts ages. Yes the fridge stage is critical, they do have to be kept damp and around the 4 degree mark for the correct period of time, other wise they won't germinate. I keep mine anywhere in the fridge, no need to separate and keep them different places.... just damp, cool and for the right amount of time. The giant redwoods are the easiest to grow of the redwood family. I think the bigger ones are about 18 month old, they grow pretty quick, soon out grow the small pots I set them off in. ian Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
