  1. Okay..... different angle: so I'm a newbie miller and about to mill for the first time next week. If I'm milling oak at about 30" diameter , and presuming I don't hit anything metallic.... would I only need to sharpen the chain once during a whole days milling? (based on running a 42" granberg ripping chain). Cheers, Steve
  2. I used my 12v Granberg sharpener for the first time today (on a mullered 550xp chain on a 15" bar) and the power pack already sounds very appealing. How many sharpens would it do on a 42" Granberg ripping chain? (from a full charge). cheers, steve
  3. Hornbeam.
  4. That's well cool. I could see myself in one of those. Nice vehicle too. cheers, steve
  5. I'm not being kinky when I say "it's a race to the bottom".... but that is what many industries have become/ or are becoming. Cheers, steve
  6. This message is just what I need. cheers, steve
  7. Question is; could it start the Nuffield? How many amp hours is it? It looks small & I'm a bit confused how a small battery can start a diesel lump?? cheers, steve
  8. We make our own wreathes to supply locally, each one being an individual design from a range of materials. Our rings are woven from willow, birch, beech and/ or bramble. The imported ones for supermarkets generally come from Romania, Poland, etc because the labour is cheap. UK wholesalers for flower products, inc wreathes, have a country of origin. What the general public seem generally unaware of is that there have been/ and still are human rights abuses, serious health issues & big environmental impacts via alot of cheap supermarket flower products. cheers, steve
  9. Not yet but it is the most complete room in the house. Do you like Laura Ashley tiles?.... is that what brings you here? cheers, steve
  10. Thats standard equipment for Conservative MP's and just for that photo share consider yourself well and truly snooped Mr Bolam! cheers, steve
  11. There are a bunch of useful chainsaw milling, chain sharpening videos and other stuff on Robs website here: ALASKAN MILL VIDEOS - Chainsawbars cheers, Steve
  12. Yeah is a bit of a faff.... that's why the vertical mill is useful. To make one beam you should only need to set the ladder twice. cheers, steve p.s.... useful to have a large carpenters square to hand for squaring up your ladder on the third cut.
  13. No problem, my pleasure. Once you've got your first cut (should be nice and level) you can remove the ladder (or whatever you are using) and run your mill directly along the surface. Set the height to the depth of beam you want - that will give you your bottom cut. For the sides there are two options.... a) Leave the log in the same position and use an Alaskan vertical mill (which has a guide rail to keep it straight), or b) flip the log over 90 degrees and set your ladder up again.... it will need to be set dead square to your previous milled sides. Once you've done one side you can remove the ladder again, run your mill directly along the surface and complete your final cut at the bottom. Hope that makes sense. cheers, steve
  14. Video at the top of this page should help a lot http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/alaskan-mill/97222-how-mill-video.html cheers, steve
  15. That sounds rather scrummy. cheers, Steve I like the Laura Ashley wall tiles too. cheers, steve
  16. Wish I'd bought one years ago - especially for during house renovations. I wouldn't hesitate to wear one on site if it was that dustier job. cheers, steve
  17. What mask do you use? I got one of these a little while ago - the filters can be clicked shut to test the seal of the mask..... simple idea but works great.... mine doesn't seal very well if I get a bit long on the beard. JSP Force 8 Mask Respirator with Press-to-Check Filters P3 | Filters | Screwfix.com cheers, steve
  18. Had the same thought. Pizza tonight? cheers, steve
  19. Not heard of ash allergies until now. Was the tree covered in Ivy or some other rambling irritant?? cheers, steve
  20. Been working on part of the solution. From egg to sink, it had a very nice free ranging life. cheers, Steve
  21. Hi Andy, if you click on the main forum button at the top of the page and then scroll down and click on the milling forum there is a ton of information on there. Some threads contain very useful info & videos. cheers, steve
  22. If you look at the list of tree diseases you probably wouldn't want to plant anything. Have you considered AstroTurf?.... it's very easy to manage! We're letting our ash regenerate throughout our woodland wherever it wants and if 2% survive that's not great, but also fine. cheers, steve p.s.... we planted a bunch of robinia whips and they all died. Although I did plant them in a silly place where they had way too much water. Supposed to be a good replacement for sweet chestnut (for when they get ravaged by umpteen globalisation climate change too many humans polluting the planet bug munching diseases).
  23. From what I've read I'm leaning towards making sure their feed & water is kept undercover in the coop run to deter wild birds feeding alongside them and/ or pooping through the mesh .... if you have a mesh coop run pop your food and water in that section. If you have a tin roof with mesh sides then I reckon that's as good as being indoors..... unless you have 100's or 1'000's of supermarket birds in which case you will (no doubt) already have a plan in place to keep them in a massive barn for them to stand wing to wing for at least 30 days. cheers, steve
  24. Not sure if bird flu is government propaganda?.... if it is then in this case it could be called Government GooseyGanda I'm a master at burning pizza too. It's like one minute it's all gooey.... I go sit down and 30 seconds later it's heavily chargrilled. If your runner ducks get the runs there is a good chance you don't want to use them for pizza toppings. Sorry you burnt it.... that's the trouble with Arbtalk! cheers, steve
  25. And from me too Just one question.... does the boom interfere with the front window at all when it's in the open position? cheers, steve
