  1. I use a double edged safety razor too, with Feather blades. Very satisfying, a closer, better shave and much cheaper. More of a shaving experience! Does take a bit more time, but I'm bearded anyway, so don't shave too frequently.
  2. Thanks chaps, good point. And maybe medlars and nut trees in the future, maybe a crab apple or two for pollination... See how we go!
  3. Thanks all. Sounds like I'd be better off getting something fabricated properly, and I will keep my eyes open for a proper one, though they're few and far between. I'll drive carefully in the meantime! Will reserve the airbag ejector seat for emergencies, as I quite like my spine!
  4. Just to update this, the orchard order has now been made, from Adam's Apples. Had to reduce the number of trees to 12 in the end due to space. Also couldn't order the pear species I wanted as they were out of stock. So this is what I've gone for in the end: 1. Ashmeads Kernel - Apple Tree 2 year old MM106 2. Lord Lambourne - Apple Tree MM106 3. Fortune - Dessert Apple Tree 2 year old MM106 4. Winston - Apple Tree 2 year old MM106 5. James Grieve - Cooking Apple Tree 2yr MM106 6. Victoria Plum - 2 year old 7. Stella Cherry - 2 year old Colt 8. Brunswick -Fig Tree 9. Blueberry garden varieties 3 years old Earliblue 10. Conference Pear - 2 year old - Pear Tree Will probably add to these in future with luck, but it's a start at least. Thanks for the help.
  5. Thanks chaps. The tractor isn't very heavy, only 700 KG odd - maybe half the weight of a MF35. Would scaffolding pole not be up to that? I suppose once the tube integrity is gone, it would fold. Maybe I should go to a fabricator and get something heftier, but I also don't want to put too much weight on the tractor... Hmm.
  6. Hi all I've got a little Yanmar compact tractor, and as it's a grey import, it has no ROPS. Also, I can't seem to get one to fit it, at least not without paying hundreds of pounds. Not the end of the world, but I do have some steep bits of land and would rather not have the tractor rolling over on me! Can I just bolt a scaffolding pole or two to the back of the tractor? Maybe with a cross bar to stop it sinking into the ground if it does roll? Or is there a bit more to it than that? Cheers.
  7. I do a few tons a year for my own use. I use a saw horse - if small rounds then fill it up and chop to length; if big logs then one or two at a time followed by a session with the X27. Having said that, my system doesn't seem very efficient (possibly because I also move logs from store to store), so will watch this thread.
  8. It would have been pre 2013. It def has a higher driving position than my Legacy, but I found it bouncy and twitchy, perhaps as a result. (But then I am used to low sporty cars with hard suspension). Power was good!
  9. I test drove a Forester XT a couple of years ago. It was fun! Quick, but quite twitchy and it had a bit of body roll in corners. I bought a Legacy Spec B in the end instead.
  10. Brave man. 320mph odd?
  11. Small by your standards I imagine, but just right for me!
  12. Well, I discovered that I was resting it on the trigger when I started it, so that might be why the head was spinning! I hadn't put any fuel in it, I was just pulling it over to check it still had resistance and that I'd put it back together right. So it conked out pretty quickly. Will try with more fuel when I get another chance. Take the point about carb kit, and will bear it in mind. But so far, it seems to run better than I expected given it's been sitting for ages. Cheers.
  13. Thanks ginger. Dismantled it all today. Piston looks shiny, fuel filter seems healthy, and carb diaphragms look OK as far as I can tell - not totally sure what I was looking at really. Anyway, after a bit of cleaning I wrestled it all back together and managed to get it smoking, then running on choke. The head seems to spin even with the choke on, so it.might need a bit of adjustment, but at least there is life. And I know a lot more about its internals than I used to, like where to find the high and low screws. Thanks for all the help.
  14. Thanks for the help chaps. Will delve deeper into it once the rain stops and see what I can find. Happy new year!
  15. Pops and bangs was an exaggeration, I suppose it kicked slightly twice in 20 pulls! It's not even close to running. Got ya. Will the diaphragms soften up now there's fuel in the system again? Or will new diaphragms / carb be needed? Shame about it not taking a blade, but useful.to know. Thank you.
  16. Not sure how I'd check! But I don't think it's anything that.major, it did run... Cheers.
  17. Thanks both. Dont think I've flooded it, just a light coating of.moisture on the plug. I don't have easy start to hand, but do have carb cleaner. Is that worth a try? Before I go looking for new carbs etc. compression seems OK- there's resistance when I pull the cord. Don't have a compression gauge or anything, so can't tell any more than that! Piston looks.OK on top through spark.plug hole, and moves freely and easily. Not managed to get muffler off. Will have a look at that diagram and see if I can figure out what goes where. I can see two star drive screws.in the carb, but I assume these hold the carb into the strimmer, not for adjustment purposes?
  18. Hi all Was given the above strimmer. It's not been used for a few years, but did work back in the day. It was stored dry. Filled it with fresh fuel, pumped the primer until fuel appeared in the bubble, but it won't start. Air filter looks.OK. fuel lines are sound. Spark plug was damp with petrol after I pulled it over, and plug looks OK. It coughs a little every so often and resists pulling over, but shows no signs of sustained running. The person who gave it to me said it.might need a bit of adjustment, but I can't see the high and low screws. Do I need to take all the plastics off? What's the next thing to try (idiot's guide please!) to get it running? Also, is this strimmer big enough to run a mulching blade? If yes, what blade will fit it? Thank you.
  19. Thanks for the input all. Will sort some Insurance, and think about road registration. If it's simple it.might be worth it just in case, but in reality it's too slow for me.to want to take.it on the roads round me! I don't have CE form, any import docs, not sure I even have proof of purchase!
  20. Everything i can! Mainly mowing, towing, carrying, maybe running a logsplitter, digging... Thanks. It's about 30 years old, so CCI might work - I'll give them a call. Tractor isn't road registered, but possibly could be - it has indicators, lights etc. but no numberplate. And no V5, or whatever the tractor equivalent is. Good to know, but I think it might be tricky for a grey import with no paperwork? Cheers all.
  21. It's not for a business use, I'm a private owner?
  22. Hi all I've recently bought a compact tractor, and was wondering about insurance. It won't be for commercial use, but it might go off my own land onto private roads, neighbours' properties etc. I think it's covered to some extent under my normal home insurance, but was wondering if it's worth getting specialist insurance to cover a bit more? Attachments? Public liability? And if so, where's a good place to try? I've googled a bit, but not seen anything that stands out... It's a grey import if that makes a difference. Thank you.
