  1. Quercus suber or liquidambar needed? I assume you have yew, laburnum etc covered? Cheers
  2. Thank you everyone for your input, lots really helpful stuff. Think I've come to the conclusion that the alpine can't safely carry a big enough chipper into site (it's pretty steep in parts). The volume of clearance really warrants an 8 inch chipper (clearly alpine has no chance). Looking into getting forst in :-) Thanks all
  3. Thanks all great stuff. It's all broadleaf to clear, fairly clean and straight so sounds like a pto could be upto the job. The alpine has loader and grab on the bonnet end which helps minimise wheelies a bit. Yes please could you message me details of the pto tp? Thanks
  4. We have a site clearance job coming up where the access is limited to small machines (no chance of big tractor), and it's around a mile from the road. We have a alpine tractor and tracked forst that are perfect for the job. The issue is we have just learned that it's not secure to leave machines unattended over night. I really don't fancy tracking a mile each way on the chipper and it's to steep for the alpine to tow it in. If we put a PTO chipper on the alpine (60hp) would it have the grunt to clear the site at a similar rate to 8 inch forst? If so any recommendations on make/model or anyone know of something to hire or buy? It can happily lift and carry 800kg on this sort terrain. Any advice appreciated thanks
  5. Thanks all, the big grinder is the one in Cornwall? I can't stretch to that one and it's on the limit for us to move size wise but thanks :-)
  6. Can anyone give me a review of a CARLTON SP5014TRX? Would it be up to site work/removing large numbers of big stumps? Any feed back appreciated Many thanks
  7. Makes a great winch machine too, perfect machine for us
  8. We have a forestry guarded 60hp alpine tractor with mulching flail (dragone) based in east Devon and a friend of mine has a tracked CAT skid steer with full spec forestry mulcher based in mid Devon. Feel free to message if u want any details. Cheers
  9. Where in the country is your place? We have a alpine tractor and flail that would sort heavy brambles/bracken on steep slope no worries. Maybe if you got a contractor to cut it the first time and then you could take care of it with light duty mower or big brush cutter? If u plan to cut it 4 times a year it should never get back to anything like 7ft? Just a thought, best of luck :-)
  10. Bump this one back up again, looking for some help. Cheers
  11. Unless you really need slightly bigger capacity I'd have the forst. Well thought out machines, lots of features that in my opinion are better than the jensen, much better hours, and 12 month forst warrantee from redwoods is worth a lot. Would they really offer same warrantee on the jensen? We've had lots of machines off redwoods and they always been good as gold but never been offered a 12 month warrantee on used jensen. Good luck with what ever u decide!
  12. That's a serious first chipper!! Good on u! We've had both, good machines. Jensen will out perform the forst mostly because the hopper is so much bigger but the forst is still quick. Are they the same age machines? Any warrantee?
  13. We were told similar from one dealer and also that we could damage the machine. Other dealers were not so negative and we went ahead and put a loader on our normal steering one. We have our loader on the bonnet end and it does need something on the linkage as a counter weight to lift anything sensible. We work the machines hard sometimes on steep ground and using the loader has never been a problem, always seems stable and we have never broken anything on the machine. Having the loader on out machine has only been positive in my experience. Hope this helps
  14. It's the biggest machine we could get that can be moved on ifor. The tractor, loader, grab and flail is around 2.4t. It lifts half ton
  15. Love these little machines. Ours is around 60hp, loader with fork, bucket or timber grab. Heavy flail, trailer or splitter. Great bit of kit
  16. We have a 14 plate dmax on around 15k, it has never had a mechanical issue, literally nothing. Completely agree with every point woodworks makes, ours has mud tyres and struggles to get 25mpg. Also had a defender previously. We do tow 3.5t regularly and once you get used to how to tow with the isuzu its fine, hated it at first. Happy with dmax as a strong work truck
  17. It's 6mm alloy, thick enough not to need ply on the inside. The frame is 25mm steel box and the corners are 30mm alloy angle. :-)
  18. We brought it second hand mate, seem to be around £1500 for a good used one on eBay. They are good tools. Never gives us any bother and plenty of power
  19. Hi Jon, 8kva genset powers up our yard mate. Lights, kettle, compressor etc. it has a little kubota engine, good as gold. Cheers
  20. We have brought two valtras from h Curtis and son near Bristol. Tractors and service always first class at a good price, paid £18500 for a top spec 6750 with loader on 4000hrs. Cheers
  21. We just got a dmax from roger young plymouth, good price and service
  22. I'd say you have just been unlucky. We have a tr8 over 60 hours and it's been 100%, couldn't be happier with it. Give redwoods a bell first thing and explain you need the machine, they will look after you. They have come 3 hours down to us for same day warrantee repairs on our jensens.
  23. Thanks, no winch on ours. We only really mill hardwood and I think you really need to be pushing the trolly along to feel the resistance on the saw. If u do add a winch to yours could you let me know what it's like? Cheers
  24. the cogs/chain/threaded bar/bearings was £150 ish from agg dealer and bike shop, the little wheels on the frame are called gate wheels and can be found on eBay for around £40, the wheels and axle and hitch is around £200 on eBay. Hopefully u can see how it all works? The only thing I've modified recently is I put some rubber flaps over the little wheels to stop sawdust jamming them up. Good luck!
