  1. I'm with Steve. You can learn a lot being employed. The companies generally have the time and staff to train you properly and you'll learn so much more than just using a saw and climbing. Start at the bottom and learn as much as you can. Most people who use subcontractors (me included) want someone to come in and do the job they're being paid to do without having to spend time watching/teaching them. I'm not saying you won't learn being a subby. I just don't think it's the best environment to learn in.
  2. Has anyone else noticed that the bank details are no longer on the quotations. It seems that they do take notice of what the users say. It's still nowhere near as good as it was previously though.
  3. I've actually contacted them today, thanks for the help though.
  4. I'm not sure, I didn't update it. It did it automatically. I've done several quotations today as a word document because I got that frustrated with the app. I've actually contacted Invoice2go with my main issues.
  5. Morning all, Can anybody point me in the direction of someone who hires out skidsteers? I'm after something along the lines of a Vermeer or multione/avant with a log grapple attachment. It's to move a fair amount of good sized lumps of poplar around a site with restricted access. I'm looking at a weeks hire. I'm Cheshire based, so as local to the area as possible would be great. If anybody knows of a company please comment below of email me at: [email protected]. Kind regards, Chris.
  6. I think I'll be looking elsewhere. What baffles me is how drastic the changes have been. Totally unnecessary. I certainly don't think it's worth £80 for the year now.
  7. I'm not happy with the update. There doesn't seem to be half the features and options it had, or if they are there, I can't find them. It's seems more difficult to navigate and find and edit what you're looking for. I don't like how it now puts account information on a quotation, totally pointless. I think it's to different from the older version, it's been basically like swapping to a different provider.
  8. I've not done the software update yet on my IPhones and the videos played fine through my app.
  9. Cheers fellas, barbel fight like nothing else, I've had carp to over 50lb and I'd say barbel are the hardest fighting fish I've ever caught. There's a lot of decent barbel fishing in the northwest Jim, on either open access clubs waters or day ticket stretches, Well worth a weekend further south. The best fishing I've had has been on the river Ribble near Preston. I was working on the banks of lake windermere today. Made me think of big pike!
  10. Cheers Kevin, I did a bit of digging earlier on the councils website and I have hopefully emailed the relevant department.
  11. Cheers eagleye, I'll take a look.
  12. It did cross my mind that he may have meant a LOLER cert but I'd take that as a given. I wouldn't use a MEWP without one and I wouldn't expect a large reputable company to hire one out without.
  13. Who issues these? If it's the council I would expect them to know exactly what it is and where I would acquire one from.
  14. My best evening session for barbel last year a 10lb 10oz and a 9lb 7oz also had a 4lb 8 oz chub in the same session. Can wait to have another go this year.
  15. Can anybody enlighten me as to what my local council are on about? I rang them earlier to set up an emergency road closure so I can remove some wind blown trees with the aid of a MEWP. The council highways fella on the phone said I will need a license to use the MEWP, I told him I have the relevant IPAF card to use the platform and he said that is not what he means, he says it requires a permit similar to a scafftag. I told him I've never heard that before and asked him to explain what is is and how I'd get one, he couldn't provide anything other than telling me I'd need one. I've since spoken to the MEWP hire company and they've also never heard anything like it. Anybody have any idea what he's referring too or is he getting his wires crossed?
  16. I'm in Cheshire Matty, water level wise we've been all over the place lately too. We're now getting a lot of otter predation on our rivers and still waters, so far carp to 35+ have fell victim and it's only going to get worse. I've never fished for salmon, definitely love to have a go when time allows.
  17. I've been an angler since I was 6, fishing occupies my mind more than anything else. I often find if I can't fish for prolonged periods of time I turn into a right moody sod, it's at that point the wife tells me to go fishing for the night! I fish for carp mainly but I've been going back to my roots and finding myself fishing rivers for barbel and chub more and more.
  18. Morning all, I'm looking for an extra pair of hands for a couple of jobs on Thursday and Friday this week. Jobs are in mid Cheshire. You must have 30, 31, 38, 39 and a valid CSCS card. I would also require copies of certificates for insurance purposes and my customer will also require a copy. Both jobs are straight forward, nothing too taxing and strenuous. If anyone is interested please call Chris on 07946 349969 or email [email protected].
  19. Is it due to an increase in turnover? My insurance cost is a reflection on turnover. The more you work, the more you earn, the higher the risk of an accident. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if they're just increasing the cost because they can😏.
  20. Hiya guys, I'm putting a quote together to remove 50, 45 to 50ft tall conifers. I'm looking for a contractor based in Cheshire that could supply me with a tractor and grain trailer with driver to remove chip and logs from the site. I'm just trying to put some figures together so would appreciate if anybody who is interested could provide me a day rate to supply me with tractor and trailer with driver. Site access is good and the tip site is 5 minutes away. Cheers, Chris. Email: [email protected] Tel: 07946 349969.
  21. There's a motocross track at Ellesmere Port that we used to tip at. They used to take as much as we could bring. It's easy to find on google, might be worth a try.
  22. I bought the arbortec breathflex for a motorway job. They've had 10 weeks of bramble and hawthorn bashing and they're still going strong. They seem to be made of tougher material than the standard trousers, which I also have and can't fault.
  23. I did this little birch reduction yesterday. I haven't climbed since last year. It felt totally alien to be in a tree again.
  24. I don't put anything on the quotes themselves. The quote is purely a detailed breakdown of the works I've been asked to price for. The quote is then attached to an email, the contents of which dependant on the customer.
  25. It's fighting a loosing battle I think. I carry a file when I go and quote jobs, has copies of all my Certs, insurance details, CHAS etc. But in reality it's all easy to fake if you're that way inclined. I doubt there would be many customers (domestic) who would bother to check if they were legitimate.
