  1. Just come on to check for anymore replies and see that the thread has had nearly 1600 views! Didn't expect that many. Not that anything has come of it mind! Thanks again to those that have offered words of advice and encouragement, it's all appreciated.
  2. Thanks for the reply contractarb, I am actually in the process of finalising my CV and cover letter to be sent out to the list of companies I have researched, treefellers being one of them.
  3. Thanks to those who have offered words of encouragement. It's one of the reasons I like the forum, plenty of friendly people on here. Cheers fellas.
  4. Cheers for the kind words mate. I know I'm going in the right direction and I am determined to make the change so I'll just keep plugging away and one day I'll get where I want to be.
  5. Thanks for the support, much appreciated:thumbup:
  6. I do enjoy the felling and realise there is very little straight felling in arb but I don't have experience in the other aspects of the job and the only way I'm going to get it is by getting a job doing it. And thanks for the good luck.
  7. What's wrong with wanting to be employed by somebody? Its not like I'm asking for free money, I work really hard for every penny I earn and I always will. Weather that be as an employee or self employed.
  8. I really enjoy felling, the whole process of assessing the tree, planning where to put it down. Then selecting the right cut for the job and carrying it out and just using the saw in general. Ideally I would start as a groundy and work from there.
  9. I am looking for a job in arb. I currently work a 40-50 hour week in a job I have done for the last 15yrs, 13 of which have been with the same company. Just over 2.5 years ago I decided to make a change so I started volunteering. I have volunteered with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Cheshire Wildlife Trust and for the last 2 years I have volunteered virtually every weekend with the National Trust. In this time I have learnt many skills to do with countryside management such as various types of fencing ie; post and wire stock fencing, cleft fencing, post and rail fencing, security fencing. Installing gates, laying foot paths. I have done hedge laying (and a short course in hedgelaying), planting, invasive species removal, strimming, brushcutting etc. I have lead teams of volunteers in various tasks too. I have also helped carry out hazardous tree assessments on the 400 acre estate. I have also been helping out on a 1000 acre private estate felling a mix of hard and softwood trees (which is also voluntary). I have my CS30 and CS31 tickets, all my own PPE, a Husqvarna 550xp an various felling tools. I also have the funds to pay for my CS38 and CS39 or what ever tickets will make me more employable. So basically I'm after a job, I am more than prepared to start at the bottom and work hard to make it to the top. all I need now is for somebody to give me the break I need, I'm 31, a hard worker, punctual, polite, fit and strong. I am also willing to work a couple of days for free to show I have good skills and work ethic. I can also provide references if needed. I live in Northwich, but I am willing to travel within reason. So if anybody feels like I can be an asset to their company please get in touch. Email; [email protected] or mobile; 07817 285705 Thanks for reading, Chris
  10. Mine has been exactly the same. I stopped using the decompression valve altogether and its been fine since.
  11. Just seen this thread so I've just joined instagram! My user name p1ummy.
  12. Cheers Damian, very kind of you to say. We'll have to sort out another Saturday soon, I'd be glad to come and help out again.
  13. Cheers mate.
  14. I know thats a big problem. It took me several months to find somewhere to start my volunteering. Luckily the National Trust work weekends! Thanks for the feed back its appreciated.
  15. Hello, Basically I'm after feedback and advise. A few weeks ago I started a thread asking for some help (see text below) which has had nearly 450 views but only 2 replys, one of which resulted in a goods days felling which I am very grateful to DM Trees for the invite and experience. What I would like to know is what can I do to get more? I'm keen to get as much saw time as possible. Should my original post have been more detailed? was my area for work to small? I would really like to know anything that will get me more experience. If it helps I will be booking my CS38 and CS39 this week and will hopefully be doing the level 2 arb cert in the very near future (funds dependant!) So please feel free to leave me some feed back as I will take all the help I can get. Cheers Chris Hi guys, This is my first post on the forum, I've been browsing the site for a while but never had anything worthwhile to post! Basically im after gaining some experience. I'm in the process of making a career change and I have recently completed my CS30 and CS31 training. I have a full time job, I volunteer virtually every Sunday with the National Trust and have done for the last 18 months+. I've got experience in a lot different areas (fencing, pathwork etc) but now I'm after gaining some experience working with an arborist. I'm looking for someone in the Cheshire area (I live in Northwich) who would be willing to let me come and work with them on a weekend and to help me build my job knowledge and saw experience. I'm not after payment, just someone to provide me with the saw time and instruction to help me get a job in the future. I am 30yrs old, have my own PPE and chainsaw (Husky 550xp) and I'm hard working and punctual. If anybody feels like they can help me out and are willing to let me help you out please drop me a PM and I will forward on my contact details. Thanks for your time Chris.
  16. Had a really good day yesterday working with Damian on a private estate. I'd just like to says a big thanks to him for letting me help him out. It felt good to get out in the woods with my saw and get some more felling under my belt. Cheers mate, I look forward to helping you out again in the near future.
  17. Having recently done my CS30 and CS31, I'd certainly say Spruce Pirate is spot on. If you put the trees on the ground in the right place and in a safe manner thats the main thing. As far as the questioning is concerned, mine was very relaxed and you'll be suprised at how much you take in without realising it. Just relax and enjoy the course.
  18. Cheers Damian, I've taken your number down, I'll give you a call tomorrow.
