  5. What make of crane is it? does the oil come from the gearbox/ back axle? Is the pump attached to the engine? If the oil is stored in the back end of the tractor then the oil would be 15w 40 suitable for wet brakes. If the oil is stored in it's own tank then ISO32 hydraulic oil would be appropriate.............. A picture would help........
  6. Competent in our legislation says " having the appropriate knowledge, skill and experience to carry their assigned task" As for discouraging thinking, most H&S legislation I have read is based on the premise of "correct planning and resourcing of work" ergo thinking it the lack of employee thinking that causes problems............. Common sense is not common practice............. As for the question "where do I get my H&S advice? well that would be myself..............

  9. Ohh! where to start? The engine, pump, cylinder, and axe-head are all related. Engine size denotes pump size as in L/min or gal /min. Pump size denotes ram size as in speed. The bigger the ram the more fluid it takes to fill so a small pump will be slow, a big pump will need hp to drive. Secondary to that a big ram with a large diameter will deliver high tonnage. high tonnage allows for a bigger axe head or even a multi axe. So where do you start ........if you go for a high ton ram then it need to be a very substantial construction. do you want it to be horizontal or vertical? I have built a few one of which is on the logsplitter thread. My latest creation I haven't displayed here yet.

  19. So why not forget about repopulating the red and concentrate on the Pinemartin population. As they seem to be a natural predator of the grey they would control the grey squirrel population far more effectively than we can................
