  1. Good job, bet the Charity are pleased too.
  2. Doh! Great Work Si, I'm very sure it has great worth too.
  3. Great worth Si.
  4. Wow that's looking good.
  5. Like him, he's got character. I use 24mm glass marbles for eyes on my owls.
  6. Hey Si, hope all's going well at Woodfest! I've been carving another Moongazing Hare from a lovely bit of Tulip Wood. Came across this Imp in the carve.
  7. Liking them Si, no problem selling them. Good Luck at Woodfest.
  8. Good remedies for the bites that work....is to warm a spoon in some boiling water (let it cool a little) then rub the spoon over the bite. Then simply rub some tooth paste on the bite and leave to dry. The spoon draws out the anti coag that the flies pump in during the bite and the toothpaste dries the bite out. The other that is a more recent discovery for me is to apply Ice onto the bite. Both work I used a bag of frozen peas on the last bite and it stopped the itch immediately after.
  9. That's a good attempt, I use a flappy disc sander on the grinder or sabur burr disc to add the finish. Go for it you'll be amazed at what you can achieve. I know my limits and realise that we have awesome carvers out there, all I can do is try to improve my own style. So dig in, practice and keep going. Well done:thumbup:
  10. Thanks, get some pics up.
  11. Nice work, looking forward to seeing the larger version.
  12. Not sure, maybe its harder wearing or takes the fat Red Squirrels pumped up on the monkey nuts that the kids feed them. You could give them a call and ask?
  13. That's really kind of you to say, many thanks.
  14. Many thanks, glad you like him.
  15. Many thanks Ian. Not sure what he will be worth when he's finished.
  16. Thanks Si, I know the use of paint is normally a big no, no. But thought it adds a bit more to him.
  17. That's a great idea, Ive been using a log jaw vice which can be an issue loading with heavier pieces. Noticed recently a couple of carvers have saw attached to a pulley system that takes the weight of the saw when carving over long periods. All clever stuff.
  18. Think you just ring them on the number below., this was on the NTFormby twitter "We need old climbing rope for crossing bridges for the squirrels to move around the site" Tel:01704878591 Any problems pm me and I can probably collect it as I'm not that far from you. I can then take it to them as I go there everyday to walk the dog.
  19. Anyone got any old climbing rope that they can donate to the National Trust Formby. They need rope to help Red Squirrels traverse the site. Hope you can help. Many Thanks.
  20. Love them Si, last pic is superb.
  21. I recently started carving, owls mostly and people seem to like them. Thanks for liking, really appreciate it.
  22. Came across a small piece of Red Cedar so had a go at a Red Fox. Log wasn't big enough to give him a tail, so need to cheat and add one plus some finishing touches. Added some white and black colour plus coloured teak oil.
  23. Actually no I'm not, I'm gonna learn from the mistakes, watch this space
  24. Now that is simply some of the best carving ever. That's a real legacy for the talent you have. I'm off to put my attempts on the log pile.
  25. Hi Steve, not using Stihl Chain as supplier didn't have usual one in and gave me an alternative. Got me thinking now... Many thanks. I'm gonna check it out in the morning.
