  1. The rumour I heard was something along the lines as happened in that video was the cause of the fatality at Glastonbury this year. Poor bloke. I stress this is just what I heard, apologies if anyone knew the bloke and my info is wrong.
  2. Hi Al Yes I've used the full length (ooo er!) several times. For most cases the full length is surplus but it's there when required. With the shorteners you don't even notice. However my crane is only 3.5 ton. Your heavier lift will obviously have implications on the weight of chain.
  3. I use a firm called "Handy straps" in Plymouth I think. £150 ish for a 2 leg 3.5 ton 6m with shorteners delivered. Couldn't find anywhere cheaper. Very helpful on the phone 01752 390390, tell them what you want and they'll advise accordingly. Regards Richard
  4. I find 2 leg chains with shorteners very useful. Easily checked/tested too.
  5. Hi there. Is that figure for you to turn up on site and clear all wood back to your yard?
  6. Thanks for the reply.
  7. Just out of curiosity Ian, what to you mean by "the insurance company went mad"?
  8. God forbid anything should happen, would the liability not lay with your chosen contractor? As the landowner you have met your obligation by checking that the contractor has all relevant insurance and certificates. 1.5k per day for them to watch others work seems quite frankly bonkers. Good luck.
  9. Hasn't passed a loler inspection since that then 😉
  10. Oh dear. Who didn't check it?
  11. Remind me never to work for you.
  12. That sounds like an unusual request. Why have they specified synthetic rope over steel? purely on safety grounds?
  13. I've got a hydraulic one on the front of my wagon, but find it painfully slow. Too slow to extract volume in a forestry situation. Bob, are all yours slow or do I need to tweak something somewhere?
  14. Good advice. Thank you. I'll crack on with milling it then. (Excuse the pun😃)
  15. A question for you milling fanatics. I dropped an oak in February and would like to mill it up and make a bench for the garden. Does it make a difference to cracking etc if I mill it in the next month or 2 or should I wait till another time? Thanks in advance.
  16. Biomass in the making.
  17. Great day subbing to another firm. During the weekends wind this Large Beech decided to let go of half its canopy into some dense understory. Lifting it out in sections saved some backache.
  18. Where abouts in South Wales ?
  19. Ashford 29 miles, hmmmmmm. My spidy senses are telling me different. She is a little cracker. Always got a smile on my face when behind the wheel. 😃
  20. haven't taken many good ones as usually jiggling the levers. Here's a few though.
  21. Hydraulic pressure wins everytime over blood pressure. 😃
  22. Evening all. Thanks for the interest guys. I should have put in the post that my normal area would be around 30 miles radius from Amesbury. Sorry for not adding it originally. Regards Richard.
  23. Forgot to mention its 4x4. It's no mudplugger but is useful.
