  1. A husky dealer recommended not using bio chain oils unless strictly necessary as they reckoned they gum up on the bar when used irregularly. So I’d guess they’re potentially thicker?
  2. Very true. There’s also the benefit that if you get some experience with a decent company first you’re less likely to do an awful job. If you just get your tickets and start operating as a business you’ll almost certainly join the ranks of the countless crap ‘tree care’ companies in the uk.
  3. You don’t do tree work, do you Kram?
  4. I mean in fairness that creation looks like it would get stuck just about anywhere. Size ae that ring… Kram, the 16 strand bit on gecko is a big give away. I’m inclined to suggest you should slow down with this stuff until you understand it better. Lots of things are possible with splicing, but honestly the cambium savers on the market are much better than what you’ve made.
  5. I used to know a guy who swore by graphite powder, he was always putting it in his biners, and he had to because they never worked, cos they were full of bloody graphite powder. Never trust anyone who recommends it, they're trying to appear smarter than they are. Ditto wd40, it's solvent based and won't last. DMM recommend duck oil as a lubricant, I use Balisto. Both thin oils.
  6. Yeah it sounds like exactly what you want, I loved it, but I saw the light. My point was the fimblclimb is the next best thing in my view. It was a dodgy ass splice which you’ll never see in a book. Pulleysavers/ropeguide is great but not everywhere. I wouldn’t want to try and retrieve one from the top of a 40m fir for instance.
  7. I’m pretty sure micro fractures are a lie. They definitely are in aluminium, black diamond collected loads of gear from the base of el cap, tested it and found no considerable strength loss, and some items broke at above their rated mbs. So not wholly anecdotal, there was method! Regardless, whacking alloy rings into concrete will leave dings and sharp edges. With steel there’s almost no evidence. Except perhaps the broken patio.
  8. Longer cambium savers have more sticking potential in my mind too. Somehow though the fimblclimb feels to me like it’s less prone to issues. Maybe it’s a weight thing? I made this one years ago, about 30cm I think, it could basically only fit round a fairly small final anchor point and that was it. Never got stuck, ever, however talking to professional splicers they didn’t seem convinced by its construction. fimblclimb also has the advantage of steel hardware, so you can smack it onto roads.
  9. If you have an 11m rope or one with low profile eye as in cousin, courant and teufelberger lines then the fimblclimb is very good.
  10. Obviously there was a bit of back story to the airport stuff. It appears that the two lads mum just got off a plane where she was racially abused, being called a p**i among other things. Clearly there’s a story to pull apart there in how things escalated to that point. There’s also the disproportionate use of force by the police officer who booted the lad in the face. It also didn’t spill over into wider civil terrorism. Not to condone any of it, and I’m sure sentences will be handed down in time. But I think by all accounts the conduct of the far right at present is a more pressing and concerning issue.
  11. It’s especially strange when it seems to be a select few on the right who really push the idea. If anything I’d say that they’re incredibly soft on the far right, white supremacy types we’re seeing atm. Remember the policing of the vigil for Sarah Everard? The right are a bunch of wet blankets.
  12. Aww were the youths being intimidating? That must’ve been awfully worrisome. What devils. I think most people would agree ‘Free Palestine and f*ck the edl’ are both pretty fair statements though.
  13. I really just think it’s the right stirring sh*t tbh. Sure I would say that, as I probably land more centre left, but I can’t see how the fault can’t ultimately lie with them. Over the past ten years some real wastes of space have been given platforms to stir up and normalised a racist and anti immigrant narrative. Then they harp on about a 2 tier policing system which is just such utter bollo*ks. Ultimately most of them are wastes of space anyway, no immigrants stealing their jobs because they probably don’t have one to lose. I get they’re angry, but they should be angry at themselves for being such worthless members of society. It’s just easier to blame their own miserable existence on someone more vulnerable. Perhaps the d*ck heads involved in these riots, (as well as those who think they have a point) will one day have a moment of clarity and realise they were being played to further some other losers political careers. I suspect however that’s a little too much introspection for them.
  14. Be a bit unfair on the Rwandans.
  15. Tbc I feel the term is incredibly generous for what’s happening. If you’re able to answer what they are ‘protesting’ against then I’d be fascinated to hear that.
  16. It doesn’t matter what you think about it, it’s factually accurate, not hype. They’re not a cohesive group, but it is a shared sentiment of intolerance and hatred which needs to be called out. If your community was being threatened by a bunch of knuckle dragging racist half wits, would you sit back and see your neighbours beaten, their businesses torched? While I don’t condone any of this, I don’t think it inappropriate to protect your community. The very fact the telegraph describes the right wing mob as a ‘protest’ says it all really. A protest against what?
  17. Since you’re dredging up my post again; you’re the one that made that comparison. I wasn’t likening the riots to any other events, simply saying those involved were vile. I really feel for those who are the target of this aggression and it would frighten me if I was in their shoes, living in one of these communities. That’s all. You choose to make the frankly bizarre comparison to other attacks. You’ve repeatedly yammered on about those involved being treated equally, which I don’t think anyone has disagreed with. I’m not sure what point you’re arguing, and I’m not sure you do either.
  18. I guess that’s part of the problem, they don’t really seem to be policed the same? I just saw a video of them setting a holiday inn housing asylum seakers on fire, or trying to at least, while the police watched on. I appreciate mobs/riots are presumably fairly spontaneous, but they (the police) know what’s kicking off, they should be ready to wade in there and shut these people down. I just saw Malaysia issued a travel warning to the uk. letting this drag on will have far reaching consequences.
  19. Nobody has ever said not to apply the laws equally, what’s your fixation with this? They’re simply expressing distaste at this pond life engaging in violent, racist riots popping up all over England right now. What’s your problem with that?
  20. They certainly weren’t as bad as what’s happening right now. Did you feel more threatened by the BLM protests than what’s going on right now?
  21. I’ve never suggested that. Nope, never said that. I’ve since said that I believe the intent behind them does affect the circumstances. But I’ve never said the law should be applied differently. I’ve merely pointed out that the mobs on the streets right now are carrying out far more serious crimes and hopefully their sentencing reflects that. Comparing them to BLM and pro Palestinian protestors, as you did, is just ridiculous.
  22. The reason is absolutely relevant. The Leeds riots, misguided as they were, were about children being taken from a community. The current riots are against people of colour. The very essence of what’s going on right now is hatred and intolerance. edit: and I do actually believe that that reasoning affects the material facts in these cases.
  23. The difference is their actions, surely you can see that? I don’t remember seeing BLM protestors dragging anyone out of their cars while people screamed ‘kill them’ and ‘stab them’. I don’t remember pro Palestinian protestors looting small businesses and burning police cars. I don’t remember any of them breaking into refugee accommodation to, at the very least, scare the living shit out of some of the most vulnerable in this country. So while they should, and will, be held to the same standards; their actions are blatantly abhorrent in comparison. Trying to compare them to peaceful protestors just shows what a low life you are…
  24. Interesting talking point. You aren’t wrong in that there’s little organisation there, it’s not as though they stand for anything, they just stand against a lot. If you look at the definition of terrorism I believe that it’s basically on the money. While there isn’t a political manifesto, there is a political aim of ‘getting rid of ethnic minorities’. Which coincidentally aligns very closely with the likes of Farage. Given that just stop oil protestors were jailed for four years a truly hope that these scum get to rot in their own filth for many years to come.
  25. No, what’s your point?
