  1. Heres a few I did 7 years ago at college when I was doing my Nd. Havent done one since unfortunately and looking back i could do them a damn site better now!
  2. A customer of mine actually once asked me to rub mud into all of the cuts on a beech I crown raised so as to dull them down! I'd only ever done that before when I'd made a mistake to hide it from the customer!!
  3. Arboriculturalist, Tree Surgeon - Two separate things..
  4. Wow that was a drunken rant but i still stand by what i wrote. Mike seems to have seen red ;-), fair point though mate.. My issue is really about saturation of the industry though. A college 8 miles from here pumps out 20 odd new tree surgeons every few months. They then start working for the larger companies being over worked and underpaid, dont enjoy it, want to start up on their own, push prices down, try to under cut more experienced companies and create too much competition for others turning what used to be a very well paid job (and what it should be, how hard we work is obvious to you guys) into a not so well paid job. The population of this country isnt getting any smaller...
  5. Tempted by one of these but totally put off by the wear factor! how can smooth metal cause more erosion than rope?
  6. Hi. Just a quick post to see if anyone requires/ knows of anyone requiring any type of self employed tree/ Arboricultural work within the months of July to September in France, Spain or Portugal around the countries coastal areas? (surfing a necessity) I have an extensive kit and can drive to the location if required, depending on length of contract. Many thanks, Barney. Examples of my work can be found at: BC Tree Services - East Sussex or https://www.facebook.com/bctreeservices
  7. :001_smile:Fair enough if youve got on and done well with no certs in the industry but what do you call qualified? I know too many people that have done the 12 week fast track course, have obtained all of their nptc's and are ''ready to go''. (still cack) In my view the 12 week course should be scrapped. Its inundating the industry with far to many wannabes who arnt dedicated to their job, thinking they can start up on their own and completely over saturating the industry (in my experience down in the south east) I completed a two year National diploma at a good college and learnt not only how to obtain my qualifications (just like learning to drive) but a hell of a lot about the best working practices in the industry and the care that goes with it. Im not saying i was an expert after the two years at college as I have had to undergo lot of on the job learning but for anyone who seriously wants to be in this profession in the Uk/europe, this is what you have to do. Going back to qualifications, I wouldnt even think about hiring someone without cs38 whether they thought they knew what they were doing or not. sh*te better stop rampling..
  8. surprised at that! (10-15000 m) maybe i dont work hard enough!
  9. Jesus, yes they are the same tread, just dont have the nice white writing on the sides! 50/60% of the price though
  10. BF AT all the way. Have them on the Hilux. Pricey, but havent let me down yet and are super durable - had them two years and the tread hasnt gone down by a mm yet (well)
  11. lovely vid! must get to them one day!
  12. Always sends the shits up me having them stand there no matter how confident I am! Could do with investing in a tirfor, theres been many a times it would have come in handy. Seem to have got by with either my truck or a good ol double purchase with someone on the end of it so far though!
  13. Cheers guys. Couple of reasons Donk. 1, theres a pile of brush and a load of laurel stumps infront of the tree and i didnt want the the butt popping up and 2, that concrete container i lean against is closer than it looks and would have made it almost impossible to put the back cut in any lower. Also as Pete says.. It wasnt for timber
  14. spruce fell - YouTube 60 ft Spruce fell. Power lines and main road on the left and house on the right. I watched this video the night before and had nightmares so just to be sure I spiked up and got a rope on it. Customer was filming which got the adrenaline pumping too :-)
  15. beautiful. great to see the changes happening so quickly!
