  1. I thought id set the scene a bit, make a little story out of it as some early morning light reading. Makes for better reading than just ' how much should i charge for this?' I personally am not one to turn down work. The client isnt one to hang around. If id said 'sorry i cant do it till the morning' she would have got another firm to do it there and then. I wouldnt be able to afford a fresh pair of Zermatts if i carried on like that. quote 'I personally would not go out on call out after drinking, it's irresponsible to say the least. It also is not just about him, it's about being in a fit state of mind to protect the public, people around him and their property.' - Thats your opinion, I dont see much harm in operating a chainsaw after a few pints, for 5 minutes, to do 3 cuts on a piddly little tree on my neighbours secluded private drive. The only person at risk was myself and ive been in a lot more dangerous situations than that. Its not as if i was clearing a tree for the Highways off my face, that would obviously be irresponsible. Dont know about you but my beer goes in my mouth, not down my front.

  3. I didnt say i was drunk, I said i'd had a few. Massive difference. 100 metres from my driveway to the track that leads to the manor. Criminal.
  4. Hey guys, I know theres a few posts on this but i really didnt find what i was looking for. If you have time im after some advice on what i should charge for this emergency callout. Scenario. 18.45 last night, in the pub, finished work at 4 so id had a few! Call from a large manor house in the village who had a tree down across their driveway. It was about 16 inches dbh and there was no way in or out plus the house keeper could get home. The usual tree surgeon they use is still away on leave so normally wouldnt get the job and doubt ill get repeat work unfortunately as theyve used him for years. I recruited a lad in the pub to give me a hand and was there within 15 minutes of recieving the phone call after finishing my pint and having a rolly. We cleared the tree and all in all took about about 45 minutes before i was back in the pub getting warm and dry again (yes it was absolutely pissing it down last night) Were back again thismorning to finish clearing the tree. So basically, im asking what you lot would charge for a 45 minute callout on a friday night in the pissing rain - plus an unexpected 3 hr job on a saturday (with a hangover ;-) ). I really need to come up with a minimum callout charge for this type of thing as its happened a few times over christmas. Sorry for the rambling, must still be a bit tanked.. Many thanks and have a goodn!
  5. This is a big reduction in a different way. It's on the grounds of a farm I've recently surveyed. Takes 3 gardeners 3 days to prune it!
  6. Thankyou guys. My fungi knowledge still isn't what it should be!
  7. Does anyone have any idea what type of ganoderma this is ? This one fell off the tree and there's another about 20 ft up one of the stems on this ash. Any help if possible(!!!) would be appreciated. Many thanks. Barney
  8. This ash came down on Monday night into the river! Will post up another tomorrow of the one that's taken out the power lines in our village with it. Powers still off till ''at least'' the weekend. One big tree down in our village this storm vs 1000s in 87 and even then the power was back on in 3 days. So much for privatisation! Terracotta pots and tea light heaters arnt all that btw!
  9. Cheers bud. Looks about right. Just think of all the poor innocent lookalikes getting squished lately!
  10. 'Yesterdays job' ... just found out from my ecology buddy that they've been in the south for over a decade and they're now working their way north. Typical media hype!
  11. While clearing up a holm oak we cut down yesterday I found this inside some included bark which I pulled apart once on the ground. Any spider enthusiasts have any idea if this is one of those false widows they're on about? I googled them and it looks very similar. Not nice to think it was inches from where my crotch was while up the tree!
  12. Been a bit of that going on over Eastbourne way too. My mate had all of his saws nicked. Another mate got followed a couple of weeks ago by a bunch when he had his grinder on the back, trying to find out where he stores it. That was an 08 tranny. Black cab, white bed.
  13. Thanks for your helps guys, and yes i am only a small business (never employ more than 2 other people) so that template should do the job. it actually says on the h&e website that its only required for companies employing more than 5 people but i guess as this is a council contract ive got to do as they say ay regards, Barney
  14. Great that i just came across this thread at the perfect time. Got through a new contract for a commercial client today a included was this.. Please also supply with this signed form: • A copy of the company’s current public liability insurance certificate stating cover equal to or greater then £10,000,000. • The company’s risk assessment for all tree work, e.g. felling, pruning, climbing, etc. • The company’s health and safety policy. I was commissioned for the work last year too but as I joined late I was only asked to provide my public liability certificate. Forgive me for being stupid, I'm only a small company who employs other self employed guys as and when I need, but am I going to need to do a chas or safe course to obtain this h&s policy? I only have 2 weeks to get the contract back in by! Any advice would be great. Many thanks
  15. Do it every two years.. They never want too much off. Good customers
