yep, you got one thorny tree there -
not exactly a customer freebee but i went to buy some timber from a fella who imports it and as he is in the process of retiring he gave it to me. so ended up with a bout 5-6 ft3 of mahogany for nout.

probably one of the handiest gadgets in the shop. managed to buy an old refurbished one a couple of years back. it's made by "whitehead" which i can find very little about but a very good english machine, all cast iron an solidly built. cuts 12" wide but only 4" thick. .

keep an eye on the fence as aluminium wears faster than iron and can warp in the heat or cold of the day...

hi all, as per title really i need some boxwood for my skittles turning and have none. i require enough for a set of nine 3"x7" blanks and 3 cheeses of 4 1/4"x2 all wood must be seasoned for a couple of years minimum, happy to pay for a courier service as i can't drive. if anyone can help please call 01628 666191.

not sure about the milling side but i would have thought poplar, tuliptree, lime or willow would be good for a surfboard.

we are clearing out the garden and have a few trees that i'd like to try and keep if possible but they are in the wrong place. there is one holly 3' tall, one oak 16" and one horse chestnut that i found under the spruce yesterday about 16" again. can they be moved without killing them and if so how do you do it? you have my thanks for any help given.

thought as much, just checking... very surprised to see it growing under our norway spruce where nothing seems to survive (except that plant on the left) because of all the needles... i take it i've mr squirrel to thank for this one. -

not used a dowel jointer before but if you are joining boards then a biscuit jointer is the best. i believe that dowel joints are very good for angles... i have a dewalt probably the dw682k which you can pick up for £180. well worth it...

gives alot of credit to his god doesn't he.... perhaps instead of asking him what to do in the beginning he could have used his common sense... why are people only realising now that nature has provided the answer for about 3 billion years. -
a hoppus foot is a cylinder of 1 foot long by 4 feet in girth or 15.2788745368 diameter. it equates to 1.27323954473 cubic feet. i use 1 1/4ft3 for simplicity when measuring wood i look at a logs average diameter, work out the area of the end of the log (pi X r2) then times by the length. to get the hoppus foot measurement i divide by 5 and times by 4. as i use small logs it's just accurate enough but for large quantities you may wan to be more accurate
