  1. Well put Rupe. That's fair enough! Daniel.
  2. If it's private/weekend work what's the problem? Daniel.
  3. Cheers Silky! It took me a while to pluck up the courage, especially after watching the speed of some of the 'novice' competitors. I didn't fancy the drive home knowing I didn't at least attempt the climb. The goody bag was well worth the butterflies though! Daniel.
  4. I climb on Tachyon and have gone through a few pairs of the Pfanner Fineflex. The problem I've found is that the only seem to last for a few days before all grip is gone. Daniel.
  5. As the title states I competed for the first time yesterday at the Arb Show. I didn't do great, but it took a lot of nerve to give it a go and I left over the moon for trying. Definitely something I'd like to do more of in the future. Daniel.
  6. Nice stuff. That seat looks great too! Daniel.
  7. I would say at the moment it has to be Thatchers Gold or if I feel like punishing myself a pint of Diesel from The Cider Bar in Newton Abbot.
  8. So I'm fairly new to the industry and during that short time I've been working through tickets. By the end of August I'll hopefully of achieved CS39 and after that I'm very keen to begin working towards some sort of formal qualification. Now I've done a fair bit of research into my options and therein lies my conundrum! In an ideal world I'd study towards a Level 2 Diploma in Arboriculture, followed by Level 3 and eventually I'd like to study at a degree level. The problem with that is that I'm 25 years old and I can't afford too many days off to attend college. That being the case, work based/distance learning seems the only viable option to me? I've read good things about the RFS Certificate and also recently I've discovered something known as a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Trees & Timber. The RFS Certificate as far as I'm aware requires no college attendance and can be achieved solely in my own time but although I know very little about the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Trees & Timber it does require a small amount of college attendance but again is mostly achieved in my own time. My real question is can anybody shed any light on the pros & cons, real world worthiness etc...? Any help would be much appreciated as I'm finding this a bit of a minefield at the moment. Daniel.
  9. Are you referring to the Royal Forestry Society certificate? It's a one year theory only course, that can be done online. I know that once gained, coupled with a certain amount of NPTC's, you achieve some sort of accreditation? Daniel.
  10. I'm working away this week in the Malverns. On the way to a rec' climb ,back at the digs, I spotted these. Daniel.
  11. I recently made the switch from a Distel to a VT on my Hitchclimber. I use Tachyon with 8mm OP. I have found it slip but a quick flick of the top coil with my thumb seems to remedy this. From reading other threads on VT's I thought that it slipping slightly if not dressed was just a characteristic of the hitch? Daniel.
  12. I'm planning on travelling up from Devon on the Friday and camping. Very tempted to enter the novice category of the climbing competition!
  13. Down from the Huntworth bridge, opposite a new build. I think it was called Lakeview Cottages? Daniel.
