    I'm surprised hardwood is going for biomass as I'm sure they prefer softwood and the estate should be able to get far more cash for hardwood. Did you try making a decent offer anyway?

    This is simple calculation I use to work out costs, of course there's a few variables but it's there or thereabouts. I think if more firewood sellers actually worked out their actual costs you would see prices would go up significantly Timber at roadside per ton £45.00 Haulage per ton £10.00 £250 per 25t load Total in yard cost per ton £55.00 Convert to cubic metre 1.5 Based on 1 ton equalling 1.5m3 when sawn to 10" and split Cost per cubic metre £36.67 Cost per load before processed £55.00 Based on 1.5m3 per delivery Convert to firewood £25.00 Based on load per hour at £25 p/h Delivery £25.00 Based on 1 delivery per hour at £25 p/h Total cost: £105.00 I'm unclear on Woodworks figures above. If a 1.13 cubic metre crate filled with Beech & Ash weighs 550kg then where does the Beech 1040kg per cm come from??

    Yes but it's still mounted on an Alp skyline. Same mountings though if you have Igland buttplate

    Good to hear. Speaking from years of doing business in NI (albeit haulage industry) I suspect though that there's a maybe a wee bit more to the recovery story than meets the eye. The surprising thing is that the suspect was delivered to the police station!

    Ok thanks Stubby, to be honest probably won't tinker with it 'till out of warranty. One of those old 365's however is definitely going to get bit of treatment. Thanks again

    And modding muffler would just involve making outlet approx 90% of exhaust port and drilling out any internal baffles?

    Have just ordered a 560XPG (as opposed to the 550 I mentioned on the other modding thread). Asked for it to be 15" 3/8 on 8 pin sprocket so hopefully plenty of power and speed - mainly softwood it'll be cutting. Will let you know how it gets on. Cheers D

    Appreciate the input on 550 Stubby. I've asked for it to be 3/8 13" with 8 drive sprocket (just for snedding softwood) so will see how it gets on with that configuration. Incidentally, I had a look at one of 365's today with view to take out spark screen but didn't see any wee brass screws on exhaust. If similar design exhaust to what you mentioned in another post then I assume I'll need to take exhaust off to remove screen? What I think I might do with 365 is enlarge exhaust port by 50% and see if can drill out the baffles. If this works and happy with overall effect then I'll braze a pipe in to tidy it up. Thanks again D

    Many thanks Spud, understand what you mean now. Roughly what kind of percentage increase would you expect in power for a 365 with exhaust mod, is it worthwhile doing? Also got a 550xpg on way, once warranty is out would it be worth doing it also and how would the auto tune react to a mod? Appreciate you taking time for all these questions, I have mate down in Hereford next time I'm down that way I'll pop in a bottle of whisky! Cheers D

    Where did the the £130 figure for self employed Sparkies come from? I left school 22 years ago and the 714s as they were then were on £100 a day. A self employed sparky will now be looking for £300 per day minimum and as someone said - all parts to complete job are sold with markup.

    <p>My Old Man has bought a 3 phase briquette machine to process sawdust from our firewood processor, he's retired now so it's really just a hobby for him.</p>

    <p>Anyway, he's struggling to get decent quality briquettes, is there a guide anywhere to the do's and dont's? It's mainly hardwood sawdust and I wondered if there was enough lignum to bond, moisture content varies but he's trying to get it down to 8% which I believe is optimum for briquette making.</p>

    <p>Any advice would be appreciated.</p>
