I would say that humans have a hugely detrimental effect on the planet, we pollute and scar the environment. But to blame us for recent floods as per above posters doesn't make sense, climate has always evolved and weather always had extremes. We may build on inappropriate floodplains which multiplies the impact but extreme floods are nothing new and have been recorded as long as mankind has existed. Link below being one simple example Living Flood Histories So I'm afraid the culprit isn't easily identifiable after all and as for being responsible for and controlling the weather.. Is that meant to be a serious statement?

Hypothesis based on dealing with useless at quangos on a day to day basis and the unrelenting cry for more funding… But the sheer waste at each and every one is soul destroying. The reason all these quangos focus on saving voles/otters/ospreys/coast birds/whatever is sexy in applicable areas is that they can't be judged on performance in these sectors. If however, they focused on tangible areas (clear ditches/dredge rivers/plant trees -commercial trees, not "native" worthless garbage- etc) then it becomes blatantly obvious how much has been delivered and at what cost… And that in a nutshell is why you will see them like a rash all over their latest buzz projects and nowhere to be seen for practical matters. And of course climate changes, but better to prepare as best you can for these events by keeping infrastructure in tip top condition… And now we're back to the "need more funding" cry. So to be clear - lashing down with rain for weeks on end is not entirely unheard of in this country. However the infrastructure to deal with it as best we can has been criminally neglected, there is plenty of funding available in this country but it is absolutely wasted by useless c@nts who in most cases don't know their arse from their elbow and blow it on their little pet projects. Steve - I'm guessing guy on the rope had enough pressure on it to stop it sitting back and pinching bar, then as cut went through same pressure pulled it almost butt first. Hopefully he doesn't make habit of holding saw like that either as I wouldn't fancy getting kickback in that position.

Drill a hole at lowest point so oil/water don't get a chance to build up?? That's what most belly plates I've seen have. Edit: Someone beat me to it!

Thanks SawTroll Apparently 8 drive sprocket configuration isn't listed in 560 parts manual, I'll run it for a bit and see how get on but would think on a 15" should have enough power not to die when doing bigger cut. Snapping chains is a different matter of course.

From the manual and courtesy of another user: "Accelerate the engine and saw a number of cuts in a thick log (3-5min). The chain saw must run 8000-12000 the entire time so that the carb can adjust itself" I do tend to think though that if auto tune then the whole point is it adjusts as you cut.. So should sort itself out anyway

Well did wonder what welder/rating I need, guess the big one will just blow holes! Done a little bit welding and now got stuff like forwarder headboard to weld and also light plate (approx 4mm thick) on another machine. Is there a decent welder I can plug into a generator? Thanks in advance

I got two new 560xpg this week, one the Old Man has and he's just started felling without doing the cutting for few mins setting the auto tune. I'll set mine as the manual says. Will let you know if any difference in running after a bit. Both are on 15" 3/8 though I'd really like to put an 8 tooth sprocket on mine. We've had various palax's over the years and for all the size of log a combo/600 can do you can easily work log deck with 4m odd lengths as the travel of "swing" isn't that great.

I'm bit of a part time cutter and recently bought a saw from one of major online dealers for first time as was attracted by price, bought it on a whim during Christmas holidays so local dealer never had a chance to quote. Great communication from the online guys but was still two weeks after they reopened that I received saw…. The wrong saw!!!! While waiting on hearing how this would be resolved I contacted local dealer just to see what price he could have done compared to internet, £25 dearer but he'd change the sprocket to spec I requested and set up saw so I could walk out door and cut. Also got some excellent advice re oils (to detriment of his sales) which will save me a few quid. So I bought saw from him and will also buy a 550xpg next month also. To my mind everyone's a winner - I've supported local dealer and got better service, he's done best price he can and gained two saw sales * I should add online dealer is resolving wrong saw cockup asap and also made gesture to cover inconvenience

I'd be interested in trying Aspen but even buying 200l drum it's more than twice the price (albeit you have to buy the two stroke oil also for forecourt stuff)… But I have to buy 200l Aspen up front to get lowest price. 200l is 44 gallon so not even two months worth of cutting, I could use normal stuff and just buy a new saw every 6 months with the "saving" by not using Aspen. So… I'm interested but it's seems simply too expensive.

For those volumes what about going for a stroke harvester head like Tapio 600 or Kesla on a digger platform, slower but more reliable and easier to maintain. For forwarder it has to be tractor trailer outfit, a purpose built machine would extract that volume in 2 weeks..an awful lot of expense (and potential heartache) for such small figures. Good luck!

I'm surprised hardwood is going for biomass as I'm sure they prefer softwood and the estate should be able to get far more cash for hardwood. Did you try making a decent offer anyway?

If a 1.13 cubic metre crate filled with Beech & Ash weighs 550kg then where does the Beech 1040kg per cm come from??
