  1. 30 tonne log splitter, 2m stroke ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds Is how we break down big butts for loading on log deck then through Palax: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/35342-anybody-got-log-deck-5.html Cheers David
  2. Ryan If you're going to be extracting 12,000 stems speaking from personal experience you can forget skidding, particularly without a purpose built skidder or double drum winch on forestry guarded tractor. You start tracking back and forth over a field with a few stems making a mess then you'll soon see what I mean. And if your tractor isn't guarded you'll have branches pulling pipes off engine and poking into every nook and cranny before you know it. Get yourself a good second hand trailer and crane (look for cracks, oil leaks, dropping, play in bushes/slew, valve block play, smoothness to work), then spend a few quid getting your current tractor guarded underneath and engine/radiator. Even if just a hobby getting decent gear will save you a huge amount of heartbreak! Good luck David
  3. On arbtrader... 30 tonne log splitter, 2m stroke ArbTrader Arborists Classifieds Cheers David
  4. No idea if relevant or not but in Preferences, Compatibility. There is a check box for "check document for compatibility", this box is ticked on my version Hope works out one way or another Cheers David
  5. Sorry, I've never tried saving a word doc into PDF. Have you tried googling for a solution? I suspect a setting somewhere must be awry
  6. I use Macbook with Word 2011 and don't have any issues, latest installed update 14.3.2. Sorry can't offer any more practical help. David
  7. One of our splitters, the biggest one.
  8. Going on Ebay soon, Balfor 30t, 2m stroke, hydraulically adjustable blade. Pto driven with own pump and tank. Surplus to requirements now. Well nigh unstoppable!
  9. What a perfect example of why this country is bankrupt. Paying God knows how much to cut to waste under a scheme doubtless administered by countless quangos at a similar cost. Is this really the best the UK has to offer for woodland management?? Would the last person to leave the country turn out the lights.. Oh; I forgot they'll be going out anyway as we can't even manage our long term energy supplies. What a sorry, sorry state to be in for a nation that built an empire.
  10. Last few for time being including some blocks where heartwood has separated which might make interesting feature. We have more of these than shown in picture. Note the cup is 7in high.
  11. More pics, we have quite a few long lengths also, up to 10m long and around 1 foot square. Also some more as planks; same length but can be up to 2ft wide and few inches deep - some of these are curved also.
  12. Getting quite a bit of interest so thought some more pics might be of interest....
  13. Hello Bit of Azobe from our stock that's been turned by Se7enthdevil, used by chaps in his local pub as a cheese to throw at skittles. D
  14. Chippy Sending out a couple of bits is not really our thing, so I'd need to look into this. Slackbladder We're based just outside Glasgow so Central Scotland. Thanks David
  15. Hello Ian Some new sawn, some sawn few years ago. Air dried David
  16. Just a bump. We've sold quite a few bits to local turners and also sent the odd pallet down South also and everyone seems happy enough, still got plenty in stock if anyone is looking for Purpleheart, Ekki etc. D
  17. Can't say about hauling bales etc but I wouldn't touch hauling timber with a bargepole.
  18. We had a palax combi and couldn't fault it, total simplicity and good build quality. Only the need to upgrade to machine that could handle long lengths off log deck prompted change. For chap above saying was slow and logs fell at wrong angle, just a guess but might be pretty blunt so not a fast clean cut. All in all we wish we'd kept ours for doing the short lengths not suited for deck.
  19. Thanks Windfall. I had a look, interesting project. Had a look at flowfit also and think I'd go for the 13hp engine with 60lpm two stage pump. Can your 12hp engine run the 60lpm and still have plenty of splitting power? Thanks again D
  20. Oh I've no intention of swapping bits from other machines back and forth, aim is to make operation more efficient! What I meant is will use reel of crane hose to make up hoses for splitter, these should be able to handle increased flow no problem.
  21. Ok thanks for feedback, much appreciated. I'd need to adapt the hoses to connect in the powerpack so would use same ones from our cranes. Not sure what flow the spool can take but if heat issues would upgrade that also. Are the fittings on the powerpacks for bolting on pumps pretty standard? Most pumps for this size splitter seem fairly standard fittings Thank again D
  22. Hello We have a great 25t splitter powered by a Honda 6hp engine, splits anything but slow on the cycle time, as such I've been looking at getting a 15hp+ powerpack to speed up the operation. Has anyone tried these powerpacks on splitters before and if so what was the results? There are a few jcb breaker ones on eBay though flow and pressure of current pump seems to be a detail that's not listed. Any advice appreciated. Cheers D
  23. A tirfor and block would pull that out. From memory a Brunette was 7.5t
  24. We have loads (thousands if not tens of thousands) of hardwood stakes from 1x1cm to 2.5x2.5cm and 1m to 1.2m long. I think these would be ideal for planting with shelters? If of interest let me know, located Central Scotland Cheers David
