  1. Jack: He is a Korean Jindo. He is still a puppy but has a real character, as the vet found out recently
  2. Great thread:001_smile: This is my puppy King Kong
  3. I got given a book of stamps (all tree designs) by one customer. He was a stamp collector and it must have taken him years to fill this book. I don't collect stamps....but was impressed with the gift.
  4. Oh dear...United States for me. Apparently if everyone was like me it would add 59,460,379 tonnes to the world population. Better log on to Weight Watchers.
  5. I honestly thought it was going to hit the house!
  6. Fantastic skill and strength to fell those trees with axes and saws.
  7. ^ That was awful to watch. For a second I thought he was going to try and stand/ put some weight on his leg after he got free.
  8. Still looking but haven't found much in my price range yet.
  9. jnoon: good luck with the searching, hope you get sorted. Loads of L200's on ebay at the moment but unfortunately a lot seem to be double cabs.
  10. Albedo: Great picture explaining how you use the sling whilst cutting. Thank you for taking the time to share your techniques and methods
  11. Just found this. It looks like any rubber used with an open sling can cause a problem: UKC News - VIDEO: Easter Accident Prompts Safety Video Watch the video, the man shows how open slings can get turned inside on themselves as you mentioned. I'm sure he said "castration ring" as a rubber band. I guess he's referring to these: Elastrator Rings x 100 - Vetmedsdirect.co.uk Great for climbers, not great for cattle!! I've learnt a lot in this thread, from uses of slings, dangers of rubber bands, all the way to cattle castration.
  12. Quick search just found Petzl do these rubber bands for quickdraws. It goes over the sling and carabiner to help with abrasion resistance apparently: STRING | Petzl I prefer the simple rubber band that John Sutler highlighted. I have never used these so this is not a recommendation. However, it's always interesting to find out about new kit.
  13. Pedroski: Your not the only one who sweats like a beast. I found that wearing a bandana helps a lot. It can also be rolled up and tied like a sweat band if you don't fancy the "gang" look. Thanks for the help with the glasses, they look good to me, and it is good to hear you don't have trouble with them steaming up.
  14. Albedo gave a really helpful post after I asked about typical sizes and brands used. He stated in his post it reduces a slings strength and even included the working loads. He stated that he only uses it for small pieces. It's his kit and he seems well aware of what he is doing. As tree surgeons, we should be aware that knotting anything reduces its strength and work accordingly. Can anyone else help and show how they use slings or add and recommendations for kit? It is a great help to people like myself who are getting back up to speed with kit. (edit- John Shutler: you posted as I was writing - great tip with the rubber )
  15. Albedo: Thanks for that . Really great post, and a lot of help. Slings seem a lot more popular now then when I was working. I never saw anyone use them, but they seem to be versatile bits of kit. Nice touch to add your glasses, really helpful. Again, safety glasses seem to have become more popular in the last 10 years. I only ever wore them when facing up high conifer hedges, as it stops all the trimmings getting in your eyes when you look up. Has anyone used these: Bolle tracker safety spec Was thinking of getting a pair once I return and get working.
  16. Any brands and common sizes people use and can recommend?
  17. I can't speak for everyone, but I can't afford both. If you had to choose one or the other (L200 vs Transit), this was your only vehicle, needed for work, social etc, which one would it be?
  18. Great pictures and looked like a great tree to work on.
  19. I thought it was very disrespectful of customers, especially if it was "fresh" that morning!! Cheers letting me know the lowering device.
  20. When I was working, it used to really used to get to me when people wouldn't clear the garden of poop!!! Many a time my rope or kit got dirty by a landmine on the lawn. When doing my own work, I insisted the garden was cleaned up. Really like the video, what were you using as a lowering device? Portawrap?
  21. Sounds like you had a great time, especially if you camped there. I wouldn't have rushed either! Great location and job.
  22. This made me think of the Australian Comedian Ronnie Johns who does a sketch about Chopper Read. The classic line of "harden the f*** up." Not sure whether it's appropriate to post a link to youbytuby, as I'm new around here. This is not directed at the OP in any way shape or form - just reminded me of this comedy classic
