  1. Got a 560 with 20" bar for exactly that purpose. It's like a hot knife through butter and has proved perfect for the job.
  2. Just been for a walk in the seasonal weather and taken a few pictures of Autumn, Dartmoor style.
  3. Hi Steve. Is there away to stop seeing reactions from posts and members we have ignored? Sick to death of Matelot and and his racist views. I love the forum but think it would do better if there was no politics as it just creates devision IMO. Thanks

Think I had arbtalk bookmarked on All activity and can see I dont get the notification on All todays posts. Still be nice to not see anything to do with blocked members but not as bad as I thought. Still trying to get to grips with new sophisticated forum haha

  4. Could possibly be Ramin Popped into my head when doing the washing up. Not sure if it should pop straight out again haha
  5. It's not idigo. Used a fair bit of that for windows and doors and it's more orange in colour and not especially heavy
  6. Just ordered one of these https://www.jasic.co.uk/mig160 Time will tell how good it is but keep hearing good things about them
  7. Think I have met this stuff before. At first glance thought it was some ash but then got this stink when machining it and the grain was to tight to be ash. Cant for the life of me remember what it was though.
  8. Haha. know that feeling but dont have the option to chip it.
  9. You chip all that! At least half my contract processing is on that size or smaller
  10. If I have read that right the G wagon can only tow 2210kg! My folks had a G wagon 20 plus years ago. Remember getting stuck on the flat with a stock trailer with all four wheels spinning on a flat field. Then it failed it's first MOT due worn out bushes on the steering having only done low milage so the folks were not be pleased. It was built like a tank though
  11. Thanks Mathew. Not yet then. The tractor has done less than 2000 hours total so the splitter must be way off.
  12. Thinking of our PTO powered splitter which has a large oil reservoir. Does it go off and if so what damage does old oil cause? Thanks
  13. Sure I can hear TCD 10 miles to my south shouting "Noooooooooo it's not a thing" Think he used to say it should be called roundwood. No idea myself
  14. Thought this needed a bump. Went from green to no leaves here in a flash but sure some of you have got a few pictures recently.
  15. Do you vary hook angles as well?
  16. Not going to show everything but as it's easy to copy but there are pictures on page 10 and 20 of this thread. The construction on page 10 is now slightly different though.
  17. Got a request for 10 bags of charcoal the other day so had to fire up the retort again as we were out of stock. Got to say that the design just works with another batch of perfect charcoal with no brown ends and no ash. Not given up on the production of the retort yet but after a good chat with James Hookway at Charfest may just look to sell plans. It gets around all the hassles of CE marks and the like and I can see once people have seen mine in the flesh they will think "I can make that so not going to buy one" If we were selling plans how much detail would you want and expect. Every last detail or just drawings and dimensions of the finished retort and allow people to make them as they see fit? It could be welded or folder and riveted as my prototype is. Thoughts please
  18. Nail on head Stubby If I take Vespasian advise I need to Go to a gym to strengthen ankles Leave my waterproofs and lunch at home to save weight Ignore all conventional wisdom on mountain walking Except having wet feet within 5 mins of leaving the car Except cuts and bruises to the ankles when scrambling on loose screed Or alternatively wear the comfy lightweight walking boots which are sitting by the door and ignore the remarks of a random on the Internet who is talking tosh.
  19. Each to there own I guess. A well walked and maintained trail is one thing but rough mountain walks with loose screed I will take boots all day. I have tried trainers and approach shoes but found it tough on the ankles.
  20. For a short rough walk I would agree but a day of mountain walking? I can pick a good route for the feet for few hours but as the day goes on I get less nimble and the support a protection of a boot comes into it's own IME.
  21. Might have to make myself one of those mini mills. Great stuff Flames
  22. I have taken to the Salomon 4D GTX. Super light weight boot and the Goretex remained water proof for many years of holiday walking. Doubt you get the longevity of a quality leather boot but for me it's the first boot that has fitted properly. First day in them in the mountains of Scotland and did three Munroes without a blister so I can put up with shorter life for that kind of comfort. First pair now leak a bit if very wet walk but still good for damp ground.
  23. Yep some of it was fairly dry to add to the joy. Then today processed 12 or so tonnes of this which pretty much makes up for yesterday.
  24. What logs have I been cutting today? Filth just pure filth. To add to it it had all been shoved up into a heap with a loader with a few rocks thrown in for good measure so plenty of sharpening of chainsaws during the day. Still cleared the lot and the customer was happy. Only took pictures mid afternoon so there was a lot more orrible wood earlier in the day.
