  1. And as cool as a cucumber. Get knocked down by bus, get up brush yourself down and off to the shops
  2. Filling up our last bay. Got 100 cube of the longer lengths now stacked and drying
  3. I agree the build quality is better on the Clearview but it comes at a substantial cost. I see lots of Woodwarms and they always work well with a big financial saving over the Clearview. Parents are on a Burley at present but it's a fussy little so and so and not as well made as the Woodwarms.
  4. I would happily recommend Woodwarm but interesting that you prefer the Clearview. Whats better about it other than build quality?
  5. I don't use Aspen and not a problem
  6. I see endless advise to empty less used machines to avoid stale fuel causing trouble but is it really so bad? Cant say I ever bother now and come to start the hedge trimmer in the spring with old fuel and off it goes within a few pulls. Same goes for our old strimmers that don't get used a lot. I use Texaco fuel and decent oil but nothing OTT. Just curious how fussy others are
  7. Sounds like job for big machine with 12 way splitter. There is a chap on here who has some fair sized kit judging by his posts. Think it's R5log If your stuck our little Farmi is great with rings but wouldn't get through much more than 8 tonne a day. Can get 14" max under the saw. £27 an hour plus vat and travel if interested.
  8. Is it much like this Rob?
  9. Thanks for that. The saw was supplied without a booklet so wasn't sure on how to do hot start on the 560. Must admit I don't usually start with the brake on so if we get another hot spell will try that. Not had problems with a hot start in normal weather.
  10. Got a 560 some months back, It's one helava saw but had difficulty starting it in the hot weather. I would pull over with choke on until it fires then switch off choke and it would splutter into life and then stall. Had to go through this several times to get it going. Found leaving out the sun helped but not perfect. Any tips Ps did better than the other guys 660 which couldn't be started for love nor money
  11. Park it with the front wheels on a pair of wheel ramps?
  12. Is that a good idea? I thought dishwasher powder was caustic and abrasive to aluminium
  13. Lots of dwellings around here have flammable external insulation but we are only talking two stories. It's highly unlikely insulation will initially ignite from the outside but it will be an internal fire that spills out that sets it ablaze. In a small building the internal fire is whats going to get you first. In a multi story you could be totally unaware of fire many floors below you so safety systems and standards have to be higher. Saw this much better explained somewhere but cant find it now so hope that makes sense.
  14. Down to 17C. Bliss after the last few days of orribleness
  15. Did a test on this some time ago but as said it's a how long is a piece of string question as species and environment will produce different results. Having problems with the forum and cant post a link but the thread was called "How quickly do super dry logs take up moisture? "
  16. Way too hot for my liking but on the upside all next years logs are cut so nice that they will be drying well in these conditions.
  17. I would be looking at the wood used and how wet it is. Only ever used very dry logs in mine off the advice of Openspaceman who says this aspect is makes a huge difference to a burn. Did you vent the gas the same way as mine with holes drilled in the side of the barrel? If so interesting that you did not get any ash in the barrel if they were just left in the retort to cool.
  18. Sickening seeing that block burning and my thought go out to all involved. Sadly this sort of thing with some types of external insulation catching fire is not without precedence [ame=http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xquk2n_exclu-l-incendie-de-roubaix-filme-par-un-voisin_news]EXCLU : l'incendie de Roubaix filmé par un voisin - vidéo Dailymotion[/ame]
  19. Been out with the splitter today and to demonstrate you can have control with the basic winch got a picture of a fair sized ring being hauled into place. Also a picture of the extra pulley to give more modulation when pulling the clutch engagement rope.
  20. Mine is definitely not hydraulic. Yes it's bit rustic but not had any problems when letting it slip. I did billets with it for a couple of seasons. Think you are over complicating things
  21. Guess they must have changed the design as that one is the same as mine but you did get one some time before me.
  22. I don't do billets with my winch but this guy seems fine with the Krpan winch on billets. [ame] [/ame]
  23. No the pulley is on the control rope not the winch cable
  24. I fitted an extra pulley to my winch so now has more control
  25. Difflock I thought you had a winch on your splitter?
