  1. I'd say it's subjective to the tree and circumstances, I don't see any pictures so it's hard to judge. The witnesses said it's dead, but from what I can see it looks alive. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  2. I don't know how old you are but I say take grumpydavesmith up on an offer if he's making one and do a day or two to test the water. Tree work is hard on the body and you need to make sure you are ok with that, if you are and it's part of the attraction then welcome to the club, it's particularly great in the summer when your day is outdoors in excellent weather, can't beat it! 3. I was a lean green killing machine that ate death and shat napalm, after coming out I briefly experience civilians in an office setting and realised it was a claustrophobic backstabbing environment. Looked around for something outdoors, came across "Tree surgery" and headed off to college, the rest is history. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  4. I think the follow up question is, what experience does that person have? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  5. I think it's a bit of all the replies in here combined, however, £10 an hour or less is ridiculous! Life is expensive in this country now and if you have a family to support, vehicles to run, education to pay for etc there is no way that that sort of money would keep you above the surf line. I've payed for all my tickets, two lots of education and all my heavy vehicle licenses, plus I've got a wide range of experience, that means I come at a cost. For that cost however I guarantee that your company isn't dragged through the mud in any way and that you as an employer receive my best work. If you request top dollar then you make sure you bloody well earn that top dollar. It's give and take on both sides really. As for experience, I've come across guys with ten years experience and all they've done is back yard jobs on 30 foot conifers or trees, then I've come across some guys who have travelled a bit and spent 4 of their 5 years doing large crane jobs which makes them very well rounded versatile as climbers. Just my two cents worth of observation. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  6. Is that mainly from LA contracts or mixed? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  7. Just wondering if it's worth investing in some serious kit. I've got two businesses myself but I'm not seeing the overwhelming demand which tells me the surveying side would pay this kit off in a short period. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  8. As the title goes lads, how's business going on the "I stare at trees for a living" side of things? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  9. Get your tickets if you want to be a climber/groundie/arborist whatever! It's that simple, some stuff you learn will be absolutely pointless, some stuff could save your newbie life or a finger at least. If you want to get a foot in the door with a decent company that company will want you to have tickets, because that company has insurance to pay and if there's an accident, lord forbid, then that company will be in some serious strife with insurers, possibly your legal team,HSE, Captain America and anyone else that walks around with a clipboard nannying us. You'll come up against ticket requirements at some point in your career, may as well get them done now. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  10. Thanks Chris, definitely not honey fungus, it was either Phytophthora or a bacterium. I've got water near the sight, it was just it resembled Ramorum and as far as I know that's never been seen in lime. Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  11. Has P. Ramorum been documented in Lime? Or am I most likely looking at Pseudomonas? Sent from my iPad using Arbtalk
  12. Is the tree in question the same one as in the photos provided? If so, where is the house?
  13. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this industry is filled to the brim with bosses who don't give a **** about their climbers! Speed speed speed!!! There's a difference between slow and thorough. Obviously not all accidents are on the climber, tree failure etc, but the majority is just down to bad habits due to the "get it done" pressure. Let's be honest, the stuff they teach in college may be the safest but it's not really practical in a competitive market. A balance needs to be found.
  14. One of the stations said it was kickback into his neck whilst he was standing on a ladder. Updated to he was left hanging from his ropes according to witnesses.
  15. The level 4 isn't easy anywhere I think you'll find. The tree life L4 and L6 are a boat load of work. I can't vouch for myerscough but Tree Life is excellent!
  16. Morning lads, just a quick heads up, I've noticed a few saws coming up of late in that Facebook sales area. Some of the details behind the ownership sounds sketchy on one or two of them. I realise this might be obvious but if your stuff was stolen it might be worth having a look on there.
  17. I agree, if we don't get leaders who start fulfilling promises and actually start listening to the populous we will end up with far right nut jobs in charge. Also, people need to stop with the hysteria a bit, it's not a ban, it's a hold for 90 days until the vetting procedure is passed by congress. As Brit I can assure you it's a nightmare getting into Iran unvetted, so for them to cry wolf is laughable.
  18. Exactly, like it or not people just aren't used to electoral winners fulfilling their promises, it freaks people out, says something about our perception of democracy really.
  19. The last three countries on that list are stable, their security forces are able to gather intel. The first lot are the opposite bar Iran, Iran however wants to wipe Israel from the face of the earth so let's not not pick here gents. If the yanks want to vet people before they come in then that's there business, just like when Obama got involved in the referendum here everyone told him to sod off as this was Britain, not America.
  20. Agreed, it was all out when I was doing highways contracts. Council boys from every department in on it.
  21. Yip, had the same thing. Bloody pain in the arse! I want to get it done and bugger off to bed. The highways boys didn't muck about as far as the h&s was concerned, we had to wear the full high viz jacket and trousers over our gear, used to sweat my bollox off! Most unpleasant.......
  22. No mate, I sleep with the old ear defenders on, my other 50 guys though weren't best pleased being woken from a payed nap. 👍🏼😄
  23. Everyone here seems to miss a certain point he made, he may not start work until the railway says so. I've done highways contracts and we had to mass and wait until the highway boys said it's all clear. We often had people give us a beep and the finger on the way past, probably thought we were sleeping on their dollar no doubt.
  24. I can't tear myself away from the car crash that is this thread.
  25. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!!!! Those cheating little bastards...... I would have loved an auto on test day!
