  1. Thanks for the response all. This came about because I saw an opening for a position abroad for foresters, which made me then wonder how great the difference between our professions is. I'm looking at it from a qualifications standpoint too, not just what we do.
  2. As the title says, can we make a cross over if we wanted to without any additional training?
  3. I've been climbing for 5 years. Granted, I feel more safe in certain trees than others. I don't have a fear of the height so much as a fear of falling.
  4. I have a fear of my anchor point failing. I climber near me came out a tree when his anchor point failed on him, it wasn't even a small anchor point, it must have been 20 to 30 cm across. A freak thing I know but it wrecks my nerves sometimes when I look up and realize how small my anchor point is. It doesn't help that I absolutely hate heights, but I'm also sure this is what keeps my climbing, love the rush it gives me.
  5. Totally agree, I would never snatch on something dead. Its not worth ending up the same way, when you could just pull up with a cherry picker and chog it down in no time. Open road, job done.
  6. Hi Stavros, Thanks for the reply and I do apologize for the delay in responding. Iv been climbing for five years and Im about to finish my degree in arboriculture. I really enjoy climbing, as we all do, but Im not lost to the fact that this must come to an end some day. Im not sure on where I want to live just yet, Im open to suggestions. I was thinking anywhere from Brisbane down and along to Melbourne.
  7. Cheers H, I had a look at his website and it looks pretty good. Do you know anything about his company by any chance? operating standards, etc.
  8. Hi Mate, appreciate the info. I dont play the dig but I make a mean salad! What do you think the chances of coming over and being sponsored as a TO for a local council is? Iv heard a thing or two about some groundies over there.
  9. Hi Mark, thanks for the reply mate. I cant find Mr Ape on here anywhere. I also assumed they must have TO, but apparently they dont, or dont use them???
  10. Hi Treequip and RobArb, thanks for the response, I didn't mean to come across as impatient. I was actually looking for responses from the UK side, but if there are UK Arbs on here currently in Oz Im all ears. Many thanks
  11. Hi all. I was hoping someone in the know would be kind enough to help me with some information. I am looking at moving to Australia, I am about to be a qualified Arb officer but was just told they are not in demand over there or recognized for that matter. So which leaves the question, what are the working conditions like for climbers over there? and what is the career progression if there is no arb officer. I have already PMed silver squirrel but had no response. many thanks
