  1. The other variation is the suspect vehicle is indicating left, but as you pull out from the side road they continue staright into your car. Remember a flashing indicator just proves the bulb is working!

  4. Although this happened last year, it is relevant this year too, with recent floods. Seeing is believing! (The five-minute video, entitled "Ross's Defender Wading Welney", shows a Land Rover negotiating the A1101 Wash Road, between Delph Bridge and Suspension Bridge. The road was closed after the River Ouse flooded during recent heavy rains, with water in the area reaching a depth of 1.35m (4.5ft) in places. not sure if it has already been posted) BBC News - Welney Land Rover flood driver was 'irresponsible'
  5. Must admit ebayer has a lovely pair of pins, commando too?
  6. If you have a "site licence" you are permitted to pick up scrap by prior appointment from private/commercial addresses, without having a "collector's licence" (law actually states you cannot have both licences in the same borough!)but still must not pay by cash, and seller must provide ID.
  7. missus says not holyhock leaf and wonders how big it is and did you use a chainsaw to cut it down!
  8. If anyone on this site needs info I may be able to advise on new law. The way I see it, if someone is a trades man (plumber, electrician/landscape gardener)and take scrap to a site once or twice a month you will be ok and will not need to be licensed, but bear in mind you are very likely to be stopped by police/vosa from 1/12 to check out what you do, especially if you are on the way to sell your scrap, so ensure your docs are up to date/vehicle in good order.
  9. New law in fully in force from Sunday 1st December 2013. All collectors of scrap metal must be licensed by every local authority they collect in.
  10. Also mentions threatening someone with a chainsaw! Man guilty of stabbing in Gun Street given seven year jail sentence - Reading Post nice world we live in!

  14. Found this in local rag. Southcote tree surgeon fined £1,500 for fly-tipping branches and cuttings - Reading Post
  15. Interesting openspaceman. I didn't mention, all transactions should have gone cashless from December 2012. Anyone paying cash could be prosecuted and lose their licence to trade
  16. May be of interest to some of you. From 15th October 2013 all scrap metal sites and mobile door to door collectors (including car recovery companies who transport scrap cars) have to be licensed by their local Council. They will be police checked (crb) and if have relevant offences such as theft, illegal waste dumping, they will not be issued with a licence. A collector must apply to every authority he works in. They must also have a waste carriage licence issued by the Environmental Agency. If you take any scrap to a yard or sell to a collector they must pay you by cheque or bank transfer. You must show them ID. If you are a bonifide tradesman ie plumber, electrican, landscape gardener and you occasionally take scrap to a yard, you will NOT need to be licensed. Useful to know if you are stopped by police. Fines for being unlicensed are currently £5000, but soon to be unlimited. New law is to try to stem the stealing of metals, cables and other materials. Will it work, time will tell?
  17. Heard a burger van was stolen in Sheffield area and he got it back using Facebook, asking people to look out for it...
  18. No real conclusions, but has been repaired.Believe the needle bearing collapsed during usage?? Anyway its working and was good to get it back. Have started to reduce the pile of wood in my garden, while my wife Sharon uses the Ryobi wood splitter!!!
  19. Gone back to supplier for post mortem. Will report back. Would you have expected the needle roller to collapse as it has because of leaving brake on. The reason I ask the chain needed constant adjustment before all this happened???
