  1. Well deserved. Wladek is such a humble man but his saws speak volumes about his talent
  2. Was good seeing you. I had a blast, will post pictures when i feel more alive
  3. Didnt hear about it but my neighbour knew I am heading over tomorrow to pick my log etc and told me about the radio-thing. Was also on radio scotland this afternoon i think. The event started small but its big now!
  4. nah, they are only venomous if they bite you some very few are poisonous if you eat them here ends the pedants revolt
  5. They have the chainsaw sharpener again next week, think ill go get one. for 20-odd quid its worth a punt. I always hand-sharpen but the machines are good for getting all teeth back true and same-length again. Anyone tried one of these lidle-ones?
  6. Boooo... I miss the girls. All 3 of them Sent from my SM-G920F using Arbtalk mobile app
  7. owners happy with it? and you ready for next weekend?
  8. coming good Si
  9. unlikely to be of use to a carver but definitely for turners. stuck it in the woodcraft section and see
  10. Wish i could carve it, would make a fantastic throne. Shame I'm in Scotland, its a bit far off
  11. like that. yeah, maybe more angry than drunk, eyes a bit deep . If you wanted to you could take the cheeks back a little and that would soften it a bit. But id say its fine how it is
  12. When i was being lazy i used a chaisnaw with a ripping chain on it for soem big blocking-out cuts on a big dragon-throne i was carving recently. It was in Sequoia, so very soft wood, but it worked fine
  13. no offence im sure. especially as the swastica is a bastardisation of an ancient sun symbol. Hindu i think and maybe some others. Anyway, i knew what it LOOKED like but i thought i would ask I do like the design though. nice idea. would make a fun bench-end too. get on with it then! what you waiting for?
  14. always worth carving things 'just for yourself'.. whats the decal in middle?
  15. nice form, well done
  16. true dat!
  17. a pole lathe would be fine. just take a while and a lot of leg-work. But you could knock one together for a few quid. Basic benchtop lathe would be fine too. I use both, pole and powered lathes but i dont have a beard to collect shavings in...well, not yet
  18. where did you get it?
  19. si.. get claire to film you cutting eyes please. I never seem to get wol eyes quite right
  20. sequoia is fantastic carving wood, we had some for woodfest wales a week+ ago and it was lovely to play with. My dragon was perfect in sequoia. BUT.... it sounds like those sticks have some issues. Id happily buy a chunk if it was closer but transport to Aberdeen would make it way too expensive.
  21. I havent done much chainsaw milling, just a few bits when i have been carving on-site for benches or something (like this: https://www.facebook.com/DervishCarving/photos/?tab=album&album_id=938443436269017 At first i found the whole process a little scary.... felt very close to the chain. But after i got used to it i relaxed and enjoyed it. We didnt use a winch though and i think it would help. I found i got pretty tired. Starting the cut was fine but as i got further and further along the log (7 or 8 foot long) it got more and more awkward to maintain even pressure on the saw/frame. Pushing from the side seemed to rotate the saw too much. My question is though, whats the best way to finish the cut? The final few inches i found the saw/frame would start to droop a bit. Any hints?
  22. nice work fella
  23. good set-up. why no u bend?
