  1. Man that 2550 looks so sick! I'm still saving Dean!
  2. Like it was mentioned above, they aren't expecting a fully fleshed scientific paper. Do some internet research, try to get a couple of references from papers or books (search with google scholar) and just do your best. Most of the entrants to the FDSc only have a National Diploma, which is equivalent to A-level, some don't even have that!
  3. Sometimes if I'm working on the ground I'll wear sealskin gloves. It doesn't matter how wet you are, if you have dry hands, you feel 100% better! They usually dont wet out for about 2-3 hours of heavy rain + dragging. Dont climb or rig with them though I also wear a cut and cilmb jacket, nice and breathable and light, but it keeps the worst of the wet off of you
  4. Some of the knot tying in this vid is awesome - A good one to watch!
  5. Thanks for the info, I'll stay tuned as always
  6. Interesting changes, especially with the movement controls, I think I'm glad I've got the older version of that! As far as the timing cylinder goes, is that something that could be modified with ease on an older model? What was its purpose if it just resulted in a delay between switching drive direction? (if I understand correctly) Also more info on the tracked 2550 please
  7. You could build a machine that turns liquid petrol into gaseous carbon monoxide
  8. open the gate with the back of your thumb, then grab the ring of the strop with your remaining fingers and extract. Its tricky to explain without having one attached to me, but hopefully that helps?
  9. My haix foresters have been my favourite boot so far, however I'm only 7 months in on this pair, so I can't rate them on lifespan yet. The suede has worn down to leather on the lower boot, but they are still super comfy and waterproof. Plus the colour rocks
  10. "Pickup load of moisture tested firewood approx. 2m3 which equates to 4 ton bags" Just be careful with this. We all know what it means, but you don't want to have an argument with somebody expecting 4 tonnes worth of logs (its not unreasonable for Mrs Miggins to expect a 1 ton bag to contain 1 ton of logs) Also I'd seperate consultancy and surveys from callouts in the list - make them seperate entries. Finally, look for a better picture for the logs page - the banner you have is extremely low resolution. perhaps try something like http://testvalleylogs.co.uk/img/banner1.jpg (just found on google images, crop as required, ask them for permission if you deem it necessary, but I doubt its original) Otherwise, looks good! I like the gallery, makes you look pretty serious
  11. Many independant mortgage advisors are on a tightly regulated panel to make sure they are unbias, and they receive an identical commission from all the lenders.
  12. That's exactly what I said, but they don't. They just look at the bottom line - your taxable income. I said that changing what I claimed doesn't change what I earned, but they got me to do it anyway. It made them happy. It's a stupid system.
  13. I have applied for a mortgage with my partner in the last few weeks. Initially it was tricky, as my HMRC earnings were low due to tax releif on capital spends. However my accountant and the financial advisor just told me to remove the capital allowance from my self assessment forms, and reapply to the govt for SA302 forms. On paper, I then appeared to earn a much better taxable wage, and the bank were more than happy. I was assured by both the accountant and the financial advisor that this was not fraud, and I will be more than welcome to claim the tax back again once I have secured the mortgage. I am a very honest and transparent guy, and I wasn't comfortable with this, but I am assured there is nothing wrong with it. So yeah, if you have 2 years of records, amend your tax returns to reduce expences, get mortgage, amend once again to make them good. Apparently there is nothing wrong with this whatsoever. Its a pretty stupid system.
  14. That tracked 2550 looks sick. Any more idea of how it compares to the wheeled unit in regards to mobility, if it likely to cost more, and when you might have more info?
  15. That stuff is bananas, but certainly some great ideas there for sensitive chogging! Did you think it up yourself on the spot, or is it something you developed/were shown/read about?
  16. - Less haste, more speed! (dont rush, work with purpose) - Be aware of tunnel vision: keep checking the climber, the ropes, what needs snedding, what else can be done. Don't just blindly drag for an hour and allow other issues to develop.
  17. I'm curious to know what kind of productivity output this machine has compared to the HB20. Same engine size, but a different drive system, larger wheel with more teeth, and presumably more control and less operator fatigue/error etc. Has there been any feedback regarding this sort of question? Perhaps its 50% more efficient? Or twice as productive? Or is it a bit more close cut than that? Cheers!
  18. By popular demand - before and after photos. First photo shows the worn side which I have 'left' by not grinding down that far. Second photo shows the two edges that are now sharp due to depth of grind. Hope that makes sense Ty - I have 23 hours on my machine, and this will be the second set I have sharpened. I estimate, therefore, that each set get 10 hours of actual grinding time before they are dull.
  19. I've probably done 10 jobs with that set, so maybe a weeks work (5 days) per set. I usually do 2-3 jobs per edge. They are not completely blunt, just a bit dull, and could do with a touch-up. I'll be doing them tomorrow, and will take some decent before/after pics.
  20. My guess would be no to the double cab, especially with the hard top. It was fairly tight getting it to fit in a SWB transit!
  21. Modified tile cutter with a tooth sized port. The tile cutter has a diamond grind wheel in a water bath which keeps it cool and sharp. Simply mount a tooth into a drill and place the drill into the spot, run at a slow speed against the wheel and regularly check how much has been ground. Takes 1-2 mins per tooth. I usually just sharpen until I have 2 good edges, rather than taking it down past the wear on all sides, this way each tooth will have more sharpens + use overall. The finish is great, as sharp as new! Pictures below (I hope), video will be produced with more info soon.
  22. I have been sharpening my teeth with a bit more of a unique setup that works well. Takes maybe 10-15 minutes to sharpen an entire set, I anticipate that I get 5 sharpens out of each tooth from completely dull. I'll be putting a demo video together sometime soon, will keep you all posted.
  23. In addition to living landscapes + linbottom tip (council tip) that I mentioned to you... It may be worth investigating 'Treecare IW Ltd.' which I beleive is run by Mick Jones. They have a big yard on Horsebridge Hill, which is on the main road from Newport to Cowes (near Parkhurst Prison). Last time we got in touch a couple of months ago, they didn't want any more logs, but it might be worth a shot! 01983 520075
  24. Did the job today, the stable matting worked very well. The uneven surfaces weren't quite as bad as I remembered, but it certainly would have been a pig without them. I can forsee these being extremely useful in the future. I was able to block out steps, walls and gaps with wood, then lay down the mat to provide a high grip surface with a more friendly gradual incline. Then used the trailer ramps for the final steps + stream.
