  1. Not an exact match, but telehandlers and working at height: http://press.hse.gov.uk/2017/firms-fined-after-worker-killed-falling-from-telehandler/?ebul=hsegen&cr=2/08-feb-17 It's "probably" not the right tool for the job..... Anyhoooo.... Did you take it??
  2. 👍🏻 that's about the sum of it! 👍🏻
  3. Just out of interest, are you intending on submitting a planning app for your new slab? There is (I think) relevant and interesting comment in the recent "root protection zone" thread if you haven't already seen it.
  4. There simply is NO rationale argument against that logic!
  5. Events, as they unfold, in Indonesia may provide a current & topical insight into Islam in a mixed democratic society....
  6. Yes, it was US Gary according to IP trackers. Time to start a new email account with 2 part authentication as you say. Will just monitor old account for incoming messages from legacy users.
  7. I received an invoice from a subby after a recent job, 24hrs later I get another email "from him" titled Urgent - response required! "Can you let me know when you're paying the invoice because we're changing our bank details." First off, since I'd seen him a day or two before, he'd have told me if there were any specific day/dates he needed paying by, and secondly, it just wasn't written in a style he would use in an email between us. I called him and he said it was not him. I sent him the email, definitely not him. I got the IP and actual name of the thieving scum from the email header. Yesterday, I get a call from the people I recently sent an email invoice to asking for my new bank details. They've received exactly the same email supposedly from me saying Urgent blah, blah, blah. Take care out there, there appears to be a rush on "ghosting" emails... I read up a bit on it, apparently it's quite common once your email address has been "harvested" and there's not much can be done to stop it. If anyone has any experience or tips to avoid / counter this please do share!
  8. There's no mention of geographical region or population density in the OP. I'm wondering if opinions might have varied if we'd known that. The text book answer is no, obviously, but in reality? The regs is the regs and they are supposedly equally applied (depending upon interpretation) throughout the UK (with some variations for our North of the border brethren!) But in reality.... Say this scenario is in the borough of Hillingdon, VERY high value houses in close proximity, small gardens, loss of permeable ground possibly exacerbating surface water run-off, nosey neighbours twitching curtains as soon as they hear a power tool, busy-bodies and parish councillors on immediate stand-by to get involved.... OK, I could just about cope with billing the stockbroker for reports & submissions and not be too bothered by it. ....As compared to an isolated rural location. I seriously think submitting planning apps and TPO requests for this type of endeavour in my area would have 2 very noticeable effects (1) no work (2) a LA unable to administer the input. Maybe it's a "Cornwall" thing? There is a tangible anti-establishment devilment that's kind of culturally ingrained here....
  9. With the greatest respect for your personal view on religion J, the one point that strikes me as always being over-looked in the great pro/anti religion debate is the huge "comfort" that religion (any denomination) brings to millions of humans all over the world. We always seem to focus on the perception that blame / cause of strife is the result of religious belief - possibly more accurately described as the failings of mankind hidden or justified under the banner of religious justification - but, regardless wether one holds a belief or not, we never seem to recognise that a great many draw a great comfort from it. Just saying, I don't mind if people take comfort from something I don't understand.... (Perhaps like yourself though, I kind of do mind if people do bad stuff and try to justify by religion)
  10. Again, if all of those considerations had been stated at post 1, they weren't......
  11. I think I understand what you appear to be interpreting from what I wrote, and I think, if I understand it correctly, I agree (with your agreement!)
  12. Levels can go up as well as down Chris! I'm definitely presenting the "devil's egg based alcoholic beverage" position, but all of what is briefly described COULD be achievable without any acquiescence (cost or acknowledgement of authority) to assumed legislative authority if the land owner were of such a temperament to be sufficiently independent of mind and deed!
  13. There was a fleeting reference to an increase in RHI payments in the Mole Valley newsletter, not any detail. Anyone heard anything about this? Maybe it's just the take-up adjustment, not sure. I'll try and follow up later in the week and see what they were meaning.
  14. The will existed, the need to exercise it wasn't tested as sense prevailed! 👍🏻
  15. It's the skills, competence and kit that makes it a 15 minuter though Stubby no? Haven't we all seen a less able bodger take a morning / day to make a complete pigs ear of such jobs! Reassuringly expensive! Or, you get what you pay for? Or even, some jobs are just too small to bother with? In all seriousness, if it were for a friend / neighbourly neighbour, I probably wouldn't even give em a bill, just leave it to them to decide if they want to drop a bottle in the passenger seat while you're not looking. I don't mind doing a favour and having an open invite to do a return favour in the future.
  16. The principle of tagging a cheapo bargain on at the end of the day seems simple enough, I guess supermarkets & retail stores do it with short shelf life / end of season stock - but it's never really a bargain rather just a means to shift stock. I agree with you, price each job on its individual merits. Any efficiencies that can be achieved by effective (or lucky) scheduling is what transfers to profit in the business. If a £50 cash job is what the customer expects they can ask down the pub.
  17. Talk (typing) is cheap Stubby, I'm a cuddle puss in real life! 🐻 Although there was that one occasion when I upended a Frenchman down the stairs in the Covent Garden Walkabout. It was an England / All Blacks game, not going well, Kiwi girlfriend of the time was taking the pi55, Frenchman standing in front of me made a point of jeering every time the Kiwis scored (that's a LOT of jeering!) I invited him to focus more on the game & a little less on me.... He didn't..... Belt and collar firmly grasped and Frenchman took the short route to the downstairs bar....
  18. Touch & go all the way, played on my sensitive nervous disposition right to the end!
  19. That's more measured than my rather bullish approach! 👍🏻 Just saying, if spending money on a consultant / methodology is unappealing to the OP, they "could" just throw down some gravel and park a car on it.... be a long time, and rather tricky (expensive) to PROVE the car parking was any contributory factor in potential future adverse effect on the tree.
  20. Change of use for parking....? https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/44/patio_and_driveway/2 Planning app for replacing a fence....? https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/20/fences_gates_and_garden_walls There isn't enough info in the initial post to make such bold claims! TPO application.....? Not at all a forgone conclusion..... Unless the homeowner specifically chooses to subjugate them self to the "Interpretation" of the statutory requirements by a low level employee of local government. Are you suggesting "the will of Parliament" is to usurp individual freedoms as protected by the Human Rights Act 1998 1998 c. 42 schedule 1 part I Article 8 Paragraph 2: "...There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others...." Agreed, it would be wise to consult a PO at your LPA, but perhaps not, if they choose your approach, to take too much heed of it... "Never been tested" does not readily equate to legal precedent. It might be, and we can only guess, that the OP has sufficient financial capital, access to representation and will to press the test button? I mentioned in an earlier post that I had previously come close where the landowner I was working for had experienced such ridiculous and sustained long term obstruction from planning and tree departments that he was quite literally at the point of ignoring all the petty constraints and restrictions and taking the matter through the courts - he certainly had the means and the temperament to do so. So a simple yes/no question for you Ed. Abating a nuisance from a TPOd tree - application required or not (if yes, a reference to support.)
  21. 7.3 any bigger wouldn't go through the gate!
