  1. There's an interesting question in the margins there..... Does a LA pay business rates? As it stands with councils doing council tasks perhaps it's appropriate that they wouldn't - although schools, car parks & public toilets do! If LAs want to operate like private businesses then perhaps they should be taxed like private business (excluding farmers of course because they're "special") I think there's some investigating to be done on that score.
  2. Much to agree with here 👍🏻 Better get an order in 👍🏻
  3. [quote name=High Scale. "...its an easy distraction that the simple minded fall for everytime because it suits their preconceived prejudice..".[/quote] Top of the morning and Easter blessings Mr E & Mr M 🐰🐣🐥🌼 Maybe's worth me expanding a touché on the meaning of that rather rushed post! I was not proffering my personal support for Tories (they haven't had my vote, locally or nationally, for many years (in no small part due to badger cull and Ag policy - but that's for another thread which I need to get back to!)) but rather seeking to highlight the ambiguity of the final statement of the quoted post - "simple minded / preconceived prejudice" and the irony of making such a statement whilst (apparently) simultaneously suffering from the very same "simple minded preconceived prejudice!" If it's not Brexit it's Tories "cuts" that seem to be to blame for all woes.... What is the alternative? Corbyn's Labour and writing cheques the country can't cash??? Massive subject, but how do folks reconcile Corbyn's current status on deterrent replacement (even at odds with his PLP) with the very worrying developments in N Korea?? (Genuinely too big an issue for short posts here....😒) I'm wondering how many knocks Corbyn's credibility can take before he's ousted.... Anyway, Easter blessings to all, time for a new beginning wether it be Pagan, Christian, Cornish Wizard, or any of the others.....
  4. Pondered that, I think not because planning app's are, necessarily, in the public domain. They could (if available) be viewed online by anyone.
  5. It's almost possible to replace the word "immigrants" with the word "Tories" in your post and STILL the final paragraph rings true.... 😂
  6. Get together as much detail as you can and send it here: http://www.lgo.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ PS don't bother complaining to the LA, it'll just waste your time and since they are (could be) implicated, it's not appropriate to ask them to mark their own homework. I've tried that before, waste of effort!
  7. They can (should) only compete for private jobs (trees, roads etc) if there is an "arms length" company between the LA and the customer. LA can't (shouldn't) offer private services direct as they are a spending public money and are at an advantage over private sector. Public funds accounting page 1. Cornwall council outsourced all the staff and equipment from roads to Cormac, a private company (albeit 100% share owned by Cornwall council.) Cormac is the preferred bidder for all Cornwall council works and can legitimately bid for commercial tenders. Cormac took ownership of all staff and equipment against a 5 year initial contract and repayment arrangement for plant / machinery. Cormac operates as a private company and provides a profit share back to Cornwall council. It sucks, but you have to laugh because all the staff and bad practices of LA tendencies were simply transferred to Cormac. OPs situation sounds, on initial assessment, quite inappropriate - be interesting to hear more detail!
  8. 😂 just applying my own characteristics Gary!! I know it won't be applicable to many..... 😂
  9. It "sounds" well hooky mate that's all, be careful!!
  10. Ummmm, yes.... Here's a thought, and please don't take offence if I'm way off the mark (please DO if I am not) I wonder if YOU are actually fishing for a bite to see if there's anyone on Arbtalk mindnumbingly simple enough to fall for such a scheme....? If yes, you've probably picked the wrong fishing pond because this one is full of miserable, grumpy, cynical, tight-fisted b'stards (I only judge by my own standard - not suggesting anyone else is as described above! (well, except a couple that I really do know are.)) I think, and excuse my bluntness, or not, as you like, either you are naive beyond belief and possibly deserve to separated from your money, or, you are part of a scheme that is trying to separate other poor fools from their money.... (1) There is no such thing as a free lunch. (2) If it looks too good to be true it absolutely is. (3) Pucker grant funding is a massive PITA. YOU go figure!
  11. I was just thinking about this thread from last year earlier today.... No sign in SE Cornwall yet!
  12. That sounds a lot like the Southern shandy drinkers equivalent - LEADER (https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rural-development-programme-for-england-leader-funding) which (IMHO) is more bloody hassle than it's worth principally, and as you highlight, you have to buy the kit then reclaim in retrospect which kind of suggests if you can buy it, you never really needed the grant! I've started the process a couple of times over the preceding years and both times I've blown it off as an overly burdensome administrative hassle and just bought the kit I was interested in. Others may differ, but I am of the view that the system is "designed" ballachingly complex so as to (a) provide jobs for petty admin staff and (b) dissuade any purposeful usefulness of the system! Free cash grants? Have a quiet word with yourself (OP), or kiss your money goodbye!
  13. The "options" are almost unlimited (but come with potential implications / consequences - as you've described) The "procedures" are as described at the EA website. No doubt you'll get a range of opinions and suggestions, but (IMHO) the best and only source of definitive information on the regulatory requirements is the EA website. If you start there, at least you can put any subsequent suggestions / opinions offered here into the correct context.
  14. Like your thinking! That was my alternative option and it's (loosely) been prepp'd for that potential. A treehouse I can "do", carving is way beyond my rather clumsy skill-set!!
  15. Rhetorical question Gary! You already know the answer!! 🤔 My all time fave quote: "...Grows rapidly to 30M in any soil, then blows down..." (Collins Tree Guide 2004:46)
  16. Might be perspective or camera angle but it looked like your cone had a shallower taper angle that the Lasco version. If it gets stuck like that maybe jumping out and putting a couple of cross cuts in would be quicker? Bit of a hassle perhaps. Interested as I'v just ordered the Black splitter variant from Exac1
  17. Crazy Euc stem - possible carving commission (is Euc an appropriate type for carving??) Took this Euc down, stem remains to approx 3m height. Would anyone be interested in a commission in SE Cornwall?? It's at a primary school (pixie, fairies, dragons??) funds are tight but it's open to consideration if someone was interested??
  18. Bang on the money..... As usual! 👍🏻
  19. But since you did..... How about VAT on food, have you tried deciphering that?? I can't get any sense from HMRC webpage, the accountants or the retailer! Nobody seems to have the first idea if I am, should or shouldn't be paying (and reclaiming) VAT on my lunchtime McNasty (pasty).... The worry of it all gives me indigestion! Either it's the McNasty, or the thought of losing out on a possible rebate.... Can't be sure for sure 🤔
  20. Impressive grab!!! Is it a matter of perspective from the photo or is the grab considerably larger capacity than the carrier machine? I'm out with mine tomorrow but using the silage grab as the logs will be smaller....
  21. Crikes! 😳 That got lively while I've been busy.... I'll need some time to compile a comprehensive, entrenched, pointless and uniformed response! But first..... 🍺
  22. Recognition and acknowledgement is the first step towards reduction and amelioration. It's just a bigger step for some than others.....
  23. Maybe it's "good" in your area, that's good! I can only comment on what I see. I don't mean any personal offence. I'm just expressing an opinion based on personal experience, observation and a desire to live in a better world.
