  1. I don't really "do" engine stuff, so my analysis wouldn't be too technical, and I came over from a 110 so a Dartmoor pony would probably impress too. It's got plenty of poke and a power button if the local clown is tailgating! Tows well - no dramas. I remember one of the YouTube reviews discussing the potential issues of downsizing the engine compared to previous models, they assessed that, with tech advances, Toyota had got more output from a smaller engine.... detail was a bit lost on me but they seemed convinced.
  2. Who'd have thought his mother could be so heartless? Fair play to her though....😂
  3. Is that an incomplete sentence? Should it continue: ....when specifically associated with an included union, and, perhaps, depending upon the target area and severity of the included union, felling might be an appropriate longer term solution rather than focussing upon the potential for exacerbating a pre existing potential hazard feature? There's also the question of "fused" and "non-fussed", how much support would an un-fused crossing branch provide?
  4. If I understand it correctly, MVF have got fleet terms with Toyota. All the usual business was direct with the dealer, just filled in a form with MVF membership No. and that was all the input they had from my perspective. Roger Young (of DMax infamy) do similar for BASC and NFU membership. Ford don't (at least didn't) do anything similar. I was looking at the Ranger but then found out about the discount @ Toyota which brought pricing for Hilux in line with similar spec Ranger. Similar price, Hilux was in front in terms of Rep and spec - no brainer! Av MPG at moment is 29.2. That's local running around and towing, haven't done a long road run for a while so not sure on a steadier cycle.
  5. I'm not so troubled by the issues as I am the difficulty I've had trying to get them resolved via the dealership. Camera ought to be a simple plug & play replacement. Paintwork on canopy, yes I am being "picky", but they didn't price me for shop damaged so I'm not settling for shop damaged. My logic is, if I took it in for value for sale, they'd dock me for knocks & scratches so I want it as it should be. Had it not been for the brand reputation, and the hassle of starting over, I'd have pulled out of the deal. My dissatisfaction is with the dealership rather than the vehicle.
  6. I'm 5 months in. I'll get fuel stat's when I go out later. Haven't done any particularly taxing off road as yet but all the indicators are favourable including the many YouTube reviews which put it (slightly) ahead of the class opposition. I've gone from 110 Utility SW to double cab Invincible so comparisons for comfort, drive quality, accessories, and "smile" factor are totally off the scale! Biggest (ongoing) gripes are with dealer not vehicle. Delivery forecast was repeatedly missed and resulted in an ultimatum - provide a 4x4 sub vehicle until mine is delivered or bash it. Canopy was damaged on fitting by dealer. Been back to paint shop once - unsat. Forward facing camera very temperamental (sunshine, rain, mist all trip it out which disables road sign recognition, speed, collision and lane departure warning systems) according to dealer, not common in Hilux but common on other Toyota with same camera outfit. Getting these, and a couple of other minor "new car" issues resolved has been like pulling teeth. Delivery issues resulted in first ultimatum - provide & satisfy a reasonable DF and provide a 4x4 until delivery or the deals off. Then they wanted me to take the vehicle in to get snagging done (and assured me it would only take a day.) it actually took 2 weeks, they collected, left the demo Hilux and delivered mine back. Camera issue still not resolved and paint work unsat on canopy. Long and arduous attempts at getting someone to "own" the issues resulted in another ultimatum - fix it or face legal action to recover costs, no more time, no more excuses. They should have been in touch to arrange collection for remedial action this coming week and loan truck. Guess I'll be phoning them again on Monday. Snows Group Exeter (although the commercial rep is now Plymouth based) Vehicle - 5* Regional dealership - as much use as tits on a flat fish. Don't forget 15% discount if a member at Mole Valley! (Must have been a member for 6 months to qualify I think but with a £10 annual account fee nothing lost to do it in anticipation, after all, if you go with Snows it'll probably take them longer than that to organise a sale & delivery!!!)
  7. PUWER only applies at WORK! Same with H&S Act - the clue's in the name....
  8. "A watershed in energy transition" https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/apr/21/britain-set-for-first-coal-free-day-since-the-industrial-revolution Whilst it was reported in print & on TV, the significance of such a milestone deserves considerably greater national recognition (IMHO) If only the general public were more tuned in and switched on to something that is taken for granted....
  9. You'd think so wouldn't you.... and that, along with asking subby to include UTR on their invoice would both provide a "reasonable" level of due diligence protection against later claims for compensatory "employed" status. Ultimately, HMRCs employment status calculator is the best starting point and the output is dependent upon input data.
  10. Doubtless just randomly captured and incarcerated by the evil Zionist.... Or perhaps, just maybe, an Israeli jail is safer than being co-opted into the child army of militant Islam??? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_suicide_bombers_in_the_Israeli–Palestinian_conflict
  11. Not so Ti, or at least if it is.... Then UK public funds in the form of state aid to be misused by a terrorist government must be an outrage no....? Oh, that's right, it IS an outrage! 😄
  12. Zero hour contracts gets a bad press for many justifiable reasons - big companies employing staff virtually, or actually, full time / long term but avoiding statutory and (perhaps) moral obligations. Surely that's an entirely different ball game as compared to infrequent / casual peaks and troughs in work flow and providing (for want of a better phrase) "holiday work" for students. The system you mention above strikes me as sensible, fair and reasonable. I do exactly the same.
  13. UK compared to French law, good question....? There was the case (would need to look for detail) where it was attempted by a homeowner to hold a tree contractor liable for a tree failure. From memory, findings were something like, tree contractor was engaged to do tree work not to provide advice, guidance, recommendations, professional (indemnified) inspection and report. Plus.... 4 years later? If some (unwritten) advice was provided at the time, and it wasn't heeded by the homeowner, and unless the work conducted can be shown to have contributed to the subsequent failure, it could be worth a short letter back explaining that counter costs will be applied for any administrative inconvenience incurred in dealing with the issue.
  14. Para 2 is really interesting Paul, never heard that before but it is a substantial incentive to join both AA & FSB!
  15. I with you there! Dreadful vid!! No, wait a minute, didn't enjoy it because it was all going too fast and I couldn't get to grips with it..... I need a diagram! The work is awesome, I only didn't "like" it because i didn't understand it.... Very impressive!!! :thumbup1:
  16. Really interested to hear what, if you had the chance, would be the SINGLE most important pledge you would wish to see in an election manifesto (no matter how outrageous, unrealistic or immoral!) Just 1 (tricky I know) but it could end up being war & peace otherwise.... And (for both the serious and the sarcastic) it means you actually HAVE to whittle it down to 1 (probably from a potential list of many.... ) Justifications are optional.... Nobody can be wrong because it's it personal opinion... I think I know what mine will be but just refining and pondering a bit longer....
  17. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/employment/107169-cornwall-10-20-april.html Can't put a post in the original thread because it's in the employment section where replies aren't possible but.... Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Graham who, after asking for some work options whilst on holiday in SE Cornwall, has spent 5 days with us over the past couple of weeks. Great guy, absolute grafter and a pleasure to work with! Thank you Graham, an absolute pleasure to have met and worked with you. You'll have to do some extra graft to work off the pasty calories now chap!
  18. And the SNP appear to be abstaining from the vote to authorise a GE. At least SF had the moral conviction to not take their seats. If only the same were true of SNP.
  19. And maybe, just maybe, the bremoaners will finally pull their heads in..... But then again.....
  20. And there it is! Very clever move IMO! PLP will split from the Comrade Leader causing chaos!! 😂
  21. I don't believe austerity is a choice Mark, I believe it is a responsibility! Spending public money should always be subject to the closest scrutiny based upon sound social / economic policy. To over simplify - perhaps Labour could be described as believing a larger state mechanism and increased social security are desirable and should be funded by higher taxation, and the Tories could be described as pretty much the opposite? Neither system is going to please all the people all the time so we're pretty much screwed either way. The one thing they all seemed to agree on was that the foreign aid budget should be ring-fenced and tied to GDP. As such, it bears no relationship to any actual or perceived "justifiable need", but rather results in spend to meet spend targets - meanwhile, almost every other UK government department has been reined in - resulting, in what you refer to as austerity. Is austerity a choice? Well, perhaps yes it is, it is the choice our politicians have made for us whilst rather doggedly insisting upon, and writing into law, the requirement to send funds overseas. Perhaps there is insufficient suffering at home to warrant allocation of UK tax funds within the UK?
  22. 👍🏻 spot on. I'll be looking at government accounting regs this week.
