  1. Here’s (what I thought) a really good animation aimed at school children which touches on the subject of inter connectivity between trees, roots & fungal associations. It might be a bit too advanced for here but worth a punt.... Alternatively, there’s always the drill ‘n fill option ? but bare in mind, it may have greater adverse implications than initially thought....
  2. Can’t help but raise an eyebrow at the irony of a “good practice” document aimed at LAs which does little more than illustrate the kind of “good practice” engineering solutions LAs seek to impose upon private sector tree management professionals. Highway tree management: operations note 51 - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Examples of good practice tree and highway management with respect to trees growing within the curtilage of...
  3. Ecologist mate who lives nearby. He recently did me a favour so this was a return favour. Didn't think to ask.
  4. Shot down is a bit strong (and not as I recall it Mr Stubby.) I recall it being an impassioned discussion with powerful and credible cases presented for both the prosecution and the defence. Must be due another soon eh?
  5. Rare old job today! Putting big chunks of timber UP a tree ? That's a first!!
  6. I still haven't heard via MSM. I can't help but think it paints a fairly accurate picture of the general ambivalence (despite grand political promises and apparently empty gestures) towards environmental awareness. What a lost opportunity. With public engagement and awareness via recent protests probably at an all time high, it "should" have been an obvious area to attract greater attention.
  7. Who’s gone to Environment Sec then? I’ve seen nothing on the news yet?? A sad reflection of where that department appears to feature in relation to the other headliners. A missed opportunity to embrace and overtly demonstrate the importance of that brief. Gove, albeit easy to not like, will be a loss to Environment brief.
  8. I don’t think the stats to properly answer your question even exist. Im not sure there is any energetic push from any notable industry party to filter out the homeowner / farmer / have a go hero figures from legit Arb activities either. Panic and sensationalism lends itself quite well to justification for more courses, qual’s, refreshers etc - all of which are revenue streams in their own right. I suspect the instances of genuine arb related accidents pales into complete insignificance when measured by number of practitioners / number of incidents and then compared to a sample of other activities (driving for example.)
  9. Looks like the aftermath of a machine with shear / grab. CornwallLive are a dreadful local media outlet. Video looks more like hedgerow coppicing to me. There are a few comments on a local tree swingers page so might hear a more accurate account at some point.
  10. CornwallLive - a notoriously amateurish and inaccurate media source. https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/mass-destruction-trees-ruined-town-3129293
  11. Nothing a good broadside wouldn't fix!
  12. See? See what you've done...? Now he's getting his oar in...
  13. Hey! That hurts!! I’m going to my safe space ?
  14. Yes I do - unless the spineless brigade set about intentionally obstructing it. He will instal a team that actually have the gumption to do it rather than dick around talking about it whilst not actually having any intention of doing so. It is the legal position that it will happen. So if he does nothing, 31 Oct weme out...
  15. ? I didn’t exactly fit that stereotype either.... ?
  16. To be fair, I’d give the whole cabinet their P45 - they are directly responsible for 3 years spaffed up the wall. Oct 31st it is then, do it or do one Boris!
  17. Schhhhhh! It was Morrisons (poor man’s Waitrose) - but only because nearest Waitrose is 20 miles away & I'm too tight to travel that far. That said, hindsight being as it is, one is much less likely to suffer such a visual trauma at Waitrose. Sports jacket and cravat being the socially ‘accepted’ norm for attire - certainly not Lycra!
  18. I didn’t realise a trip to the grocery could be quite so interesting. There was also this muppet with a dog shut in the car. The bird at customer services said they didn’t “do” announcements for dogs shut in cars. She though better of it when I explained that I’d put a felling lever through the back window and presented with the alternative of clearing up a car park covered in broken car glass....
  19. I think 1 was female - but I wouldn't deem to assume..... ?
  20. I’m just back from Morrisons (obviously it was just a quick beer & porn top up, not groceries since that’d be woman’s work) and I saw this pair. Now im no expert in the aerodynamic advantages of Lycra for the modern cyclist, but surely the shopping dangling from the drop handlebars will negate any advantage that might come from a spray on suit? And then there is the issue of balance and stability.... I’d have more respect for them if they just turned out starkers rather than ‘pretending’ to cover up with a lick of Lycra..... ???
  21. Company and director fined following worker’s fatal fall from a tree - HSE Media Centre PRESS.HSE.GOV.UK A property investment company and its director have been fined after a worker fell from a tree causing fatal injuries...
  22. Good post Mark ?? Nobody has mentioned yet: Pick your jobs / customers wisely and price accordingly. Avoid spending time and money chasing the job where they’ve already had 300 quotes and are still looking to save another 20 quid.
  23. It certainly seems like the “evidence” (and a sympathetic judge) can be conjured up when there is the “desire” for a specific judicial outcome... Shame on SCC for creating the situation. Shame on FC for being too weak to prosecute. Shame on us all for allowing incompetent politicians to exist in a protected bubble of unaccountability. You’re absolutely right, examples like this have a corrosive effect on public confidence in ‘the system.’
