  3. the thing is you don't need loads of pipes or copious amounts of water. Take one open vented hot water heating system, one fire with back boiler EG Rayburn Parkray Aga Stanley etc.etc. add one night to freeze the pipe work in the atic lght the fire wait for the water in the boiler to boil building up steam that can't escape through the frozen pipes and BOOM...... result one fireplace blown off the wall.

  5. frozen pipes on the hot water system can block the pipes, causing a build up of pressure.A nearby farm kitchen was blown up on Christmas morning, killing the farmers wife so I was bought up to make sure the pipes were not frozen before I light the fire.
  6. I recon a few Stella's beforehand would give you the courage you :001_tt2:would need for a days work with this.
  7. I see he uses the flywheel off a baler and I had a brainwave why not just use the baler the back and fro motion is already there, just weld the spliting wedges in the chamber, you could even use the forks to pull the logs in.
  8. I love it H+S straight out the window:001_tt2: any idea how you stop it halfway through a stroke if your arm is caught there for some reason:confused1:
  9. woman with skirt up runs faster than man with trowsers down.
  10. I should have asked,is there someone on here that sell a similar splitter? I would be happy to support advetisers on here if they have any reasonably priced splitters. Gethin.
  11. correct goto the top of the class.
  12. this one came down to £500 the one from ktm (yellow one)was £550 and I would have to go further to collect,I wanted to have a go doing one myself but if I spent my time doing what I do for aliving (pig arks etc.)I could get one made ready.
  13. I'm collceting one on Thursday and then I'm down your way with a delivery, nows your chance we might get a better discount if we go for two and you could get free del.
  14. Hi all I'm after a splitter for my own use only and was just looking for other opinions on this one please. Ebay item 170970087646. £500 Thanks guys :thumbup1:or:thumbdown:.
  15. The Lumbermate 2000, a good all rounder manual mill.I have the 23hp model and now would not change it, exept for a hydraulic one.
  16. If you want to see a tractor in distres wait till you see my leyland 270
  17. I had one many moons ago I never had any probs with overheating but they did seem renownd for overheating,I think it was put down to the fuel tank being in front of thr rad this is why most of them had the side grills removed to allow better air flow, perhaps you may have to fit a larger rad because if the extra 2cyl to cool. The 465 was only made for 2 years before it became the Leyland 270 the diesel tanks on these are on the front also but fitted flat allowing better airflow,I hope the Leylands are better because I just bought a 270 but she's not home yet so haven't had time to play.
  18. Thanks guys,I had a think and a giod look around and a quad or a compact tractor in reasonable condition start around £2000 so I went for an old Leyland 270 with a front loader for a grand. From my younger days when I had a nuffield 465 I seem to remember they have a fair bit of power and the loader will come in handy to load the Lumbermate, next job is to find a small skidding winch.
  19. Tennon the legs and mortice the top then saw cut the tennons down to the depth an ins.or so from each end glue with Cascamite waterproof glue fit top and drive some narrow wedges into the saw cuts this will tighten up the joint, useing contrasting wood for the wedges IMO looks guod. Trim end of tennons and sand to finish req.
  20. To be honest I can borrow the plant off my mate the last machine I had towing out some douglas fir was a MF digger but now the ground is too wet and diggers are not the best machines on steep ground. Having been given the trees I dont like to borrow all the time. I quite fancy a diesel polaris do you think thrse fan take the punishment. Thanks
  21. Hi,I need to do some small scale extraction from a mates forest and I need to make the least damage possible. The forest is on a steep hill and was thinking about a small skidder but don't know what to pull it with.I was thinking a quad or a small compact tractor about 20 horse.its only for small amounts when needed . Your opinions would be helpfull in making my mind up. At the moment i'm tempted with tractor due to running costs and versatility but unsure about the HP req. Thanks,Gethin.
  22. very nice mill but if I was spending a night in with a vid. it would have to be with a Serra Montana md 90,I can but dream.
  23. Hi,the Dexta has a reliable engine its the same as the massey 35,but the gearbox on the older ones can be a pain they have a habit of sticking in gear, the super dexta didn't seem to have this problem.Good luck,Gethin.
