  1. thanks guy's,ordered a .404.I will post pics of the mill as it's built,it's turning out to be a steep learning curve but it's great fun.
  2. I will probably go with yours, jst thought it might come up wth other peoples views
  3. I am building a chainsaw mill powered by a husky 298 that I was given to play with,it will I hope drive a 3ft bar used mostly in softwood. Before I decide which one I thought I would ask profesionals their oplnion.
  4. Thanks, answers all questions I didnt think I would get any sense this time
  5. Do you think animal magic with johnny morris sent you down this road:lol:
  6. Hi,will a stihl double ended bar,if thats what you call it fit a husky andcan you get a sprocket to fit one of the ends? I can borrow a 298 to power it. Thanks
  7. 070 are cheap - I've got a runner for less than £100 and a very good one for less than £200, and pattern parts are plentiful and cheap. They're simple to work on, have masses of torque and work well. hi,do you mean you have them for sale or you picked them up for this price. The problem with the filler is that she is planed to be bolted in a carriage and unless I plan for tilting this it would be a problem but it's not the end of the world beggars can't be chosers
  8. Ok oune last question, the husky 2100cd is it an auto or mabual oiler? I lntend to add some form of lube /cooling to the bar.if it is manual A planed winch system to pull the carriage along may be out of the question.
  9. By the way I hope to be able to find something around 400
  10. Thanks, but I cant find it do you have the item no? By the way is £650 steep for an 084av thanks again gethin.
  11. Not fair,I have also cought the bug but after good advise of you guys on here I have to look for a100cc chainsaw. When that is sorted I will be back for the 36ins bar and chain. I could probably part ex a small country for all this Lol
  12. Thanks Alec,I was trying to edit the 070 bit but tou got in before me.one more thing, would a husky 181 drive a 36 ins this is about the max the mill can take as it stands.
  13. Thanks, just one question about the 070 does it have both tanks on the same side? because I noticed some of the Stihls do. thanks.
  14. I was Watching the 2100 but not sure if it was a manual oiler anvd I have no idea what sort of price large old saws make on ebay,I did think about 300 but I lost my bottle
  15. Hi,I am building a chainsaw mill and I am now at the stage that I need a saw strong enough to drive a 36or42ins bar, has, I dont care how old the beast is as long it starts and turns the chain. By the way I cant afford new or newish and the budget is low. hope someone can help or polnt me in the right direction.thanks,Gethin.
  16. Hi Alec, afraid not, drive in the nails.you can get truss clips from any builders merchant for a few pence and its more important that the wallolate is strapped down to the wall these gal straps are also available from the same place.rafters @ min 600m centres.
  17. Google tusk tenon, this joint was used in the good old days to trim joists around stair cases and fire places Ohh... the good old days of carpentry, now it's all joist hangers held together by a few nails.
  18. It would be safer to have 1 flat edge on any timber before you rip it through a sawbench, if it twists and jams as you push it through you and the log could land back over the hedge. A rack bench has the tree dogged down thus avoiding the chance of it twisting
  19. No probs,it's only just been started and still being planed as I go along. It should look like a mill in a few weeks if the welder nextdoor ever sobers up.I'm based near Lampeterand would be only too happy to let you have a play, saying that when you see it you may not want to put your saw near it.
  20. If you do overload there will be a fine
  21. I would love to have an old rack bench,I have started building a chainsaw mill I only have an old 266 at the momment and I will post some picks on a new thread when I get time.I hope to plank the logs with it and I have an old Liner sawbench with a Petter engine that shoud be able to rip them down.....well thats the plan, everybody in the village thinks I'm nuts but as the mill is begining to come together they seem to understand my cunning plan LOL.
  22. Hi,let us know if it goes on ebay it will be interesting to find out what an old rack saw is worth
