  1. For me I ascend up on either a base tied main line or secured at the tip, on a unicender, hand ascender tethered to the uni with elastic and a foot ascender I go straight up reset my TIP if need be, I use a modified petzl hand ascender with the safety latch removed for ease of opening the cam, I'm not to sure what you mean dicking around the uni stays right where it is all the time the hand ascender stays tethered and of course the foot ascender stays where it is. Thats what I was saying in my earlier post you just have to think more and plan your climb as well of climbing the tree more. You can use infinite redirects with no change in friction and if you smart about it once finished you can leave them all in place and just come down. Of course this is just what appeals to me about SRWP lol it nearly sounds like i have the big sales pitch going on as for a video, the climb every thing boys in unzed have a good one up some where at the minute Nick
  2. Hi Joe, first i must say i've seen all the spiderjackery videos and wow just unreal climbing. Even made me buy one lol, the spiderjack was the last Ddrt device i used since converting to 100% SRT or SRWP and i've done every tree for 5-6 days a week that way. My climbing is 90% spike less and it was a tough transition but now i'll NEVER go back i even had doubts and worked a small tree Ddrt back on my old HC setup and hated every minute of it. Basically you have it forget most of your double rope climbing years. You have to plan your climb more its just a bit more brain work which i'm still getting used to lol. the advantages of SRT hugely out weigh the disadvantages and with more and more development with gear its only a matter of time till there are enough options and setup combinations to suit more climbers. Obviously its not for everyone but i am climbing better, faster and with more energy at the end of the day.
  3. If you are running the SJ with the dyneema kit you should be able to run it on an ultra O. Failing that chuck it away and buy a unicender and run SRT, its the only option
  4. If you are running the SJ with the dyneema kit you should be able to run it on an ultra O. Failing that chuck it away and buy a unicender and run SRT, its the only option
  5. Looks great! It seems to be a really long system but i am looking forward to your feedback
  6. Paul I'm 115kg so if i take a wrap and it doesn't flick off I go straight down, I can feather it just by pressing the cams down but so far for 1 handed fast ascents this is the best method I have found. And I would love to know what is so complicated about it, if you want Paul PM me to save your self the embarrassment and I'll explain it real slow for you with lots of pictures. Using a uni with a RW is also unnessicary but people rave about that. This industry is full close minded knobs. On a brighter note Surveyor I'm still playing with the OAR but haven't had alot of time lately I'll spend some time on it over the weekend and see what i come up with
  7. Hi has anyone ever tried descending on the uni like this? Full SRT of course. I find it a nice happy medium between taking a wrap around the handles and squeezing the handles together
  8. What ever happened to just a biner and a munters hitch? Rings on bridges are used because they rotate and wear is distributed somewhat evenly around the inside diameter. The fig 8 will just wear in 1 spot, i'd still like to see you play jump rope in the tree to come down for a cuppa lol
  9. agreed. and with the cutting of the bridge comments, clipped in like i am if i was to cut my bridge i wouldn't be going any where my main line would still be connected to lanyard which would put me in an uncomfortable position probably upside down or something but i would simply use my second lanyard to secure my self to deal with the problem. i love the "don't do that or your gunna DIEEEEEE!!!!" stance we see so often in the arb forums it cracks me up
  10. Thanks Albedo, since i've been climbing with the unicender srt i can't recall the last time i have had to take it off whilst climbing, the rope is easy enough to take out of the uni so i do that instead. the guys on the rope wrench have to unclip to remove their hitch if they want to take the rope out so i spose it is easier for them to just chuck the whole system up and over branches etc. i like to experiment with gear not to make revolutions in our industry but to make my system work better for me, and maybe someone might have a go at this idea one time and it could work nicely for them as well who knows lol i am a bit of a gear junkie tho, but everything i carry on my saddle gets used frequently other wise it wouldn't be there
  11. I climb full srt and in some cases having 2 lanyards can be very handy for getting out to a redirect or climbing above your tip i don't use the 5m every climb but when i do i thank the tree gods i left it on there. Its daisy chained and runs between my left lower ring and a caritool on my back so it's never been in the way
  12. Whoa so many haters lol, the HC on the bridge is so freaking smooth whilst maintaining an excellent bend ratio on the bridge that most of you guys are always carrying on about it failing. I put the HC on for this reason alone but after having the bright spark to tie in like i have in the pic i'll continue to do so as it provides me with an excellent working position in MOST cases, just another trick in the bag. And yeah i have a 3m lanyard and a 5 meter lanyard both on positioners, IMO they are unrivaled in ease of use
  13. Just wanting to know peoples thoughts on using a lanyard like this for work positioning? I've been using it like this for the last couple of days and it's really quite comfortable and puts me in an excellent cutting position as it kind of equalizes my center pull on the bridge and the side pull on the lanyard if that makes sense? Lol
  14. +1 on the harrison rockets they are an excellent bag i have 4 16oz myself any lighter for the stuff we do is rubbish, my .02c
  15. Check out pacific helmets in NZ, kevlar shell with fully replaceable insides and a shell life of 10 years. I have 2 of them. Tried the petzl and that was a piece of rubbish IMO
  16. What if for number 5 the ring was captured in the eye of the alpine butterfly? Still with the working leg through it as well then you could vary the length of tail for retrieval
  17. Drew B, how about the solid tether on the rope wrench is a SPANNER from a too kit, a double ended ring SPANNER lol
  18. Look at the upside, just a better reason start full srt
  19. I don't know where you use your wrench but for ascending and decending it is very close to the face, as for the OP buy a unicender it is head and shoulders above the wrench
  20. I hate to ask after being in the industry for nearly 9 years how is that tied?
  21. Buy a ART rop guide much better tool, i only ever had problems with mine getting stuck and the small catch riding up into the pulley.
  22. Yeah if you want to carry a spanner on your harness, there is no way i'd climb on non sinched up mallions especially so close to running rope,
  23. I don't understand why you would want to save a few bucks on a perfectly engineered piece of equipment (the hitch climber) especially when your life is on the line, i used a hitch climber for ages with a vt and never had a problem even with a termination knot above the hitch, just as long as i kept an eye on it, it was fine. Spend the money and even when you grow out of it you'll still have an excellent pulley to use for other applications.
