  1. The pulleysaver isn't all its cracked up to be, i had one used it a couple of times and sold it. The little retrieval clip rode up into the pulley one to many times. I reckon the ART rope guide is a much better tool and when used with a double snapper to retrieve it, just amazing. Or like its been said SRT all the way ;D
  2. Dude no offense taken just take care, its not a clothes line or house we are cutting near. Like i mentioned i work on the lines everyday i climb full SRT every tree have done for nearly 7 months, for me it has been the best thing for my climbing i've ever done, especially since we do alot of up and down
  3. Forgive me for being critical but the powerline guys here in Aus are already branded 'hacks' by the rest of the industry without the help of claims of unsafe practises. Working on the lines is 90% of my work so i'm a bit sensitive when i hear crap like the OP is talking about. We deal with a specialized sector of the arb industry working in potentially more dangerous environments but by following the rules and regs with powerline work we should never be in an 'unsafe' situation. We must remember this isn't a local coffee shop chat but a world wide discussion
  4. I'd tie the end off some where and chuck a tight prussik on it and give it a good milking
  5. Using your knees works well, i've even choked my line and sat straddled on big leaners lol
  6. Mate I work everyday on the lines in NSW and never once have experienced a 'unsafe, terrifying or risky' day and it is far from dangerous if you are following rules and maintaining clearances. Kind of sounds like you're a bit of a talk-it-up cowboy, maybe what you need is an attitude adjustment instead of new gear, don't get caught up in the mucho ego trip, we already have to much of that B/S here in australia.
  7. I'd be happy to but i'd have to ask for some cash since i bought mine off gordon at full price
  8. Hi all, I had bought a OAR off gordon a month or two back but with the 3 arms it wasn't able to hold my weight so I haven't gone much further with it, if any one is keen for it PM me and you can have it less than what I bought it for. Gordon has fixed the problem by adding another arm to it for the larger climbers but the one I have should suit climbers sub 90kg unless you contact gordon and get another arm for it Thanks Nick
  9. Would be very hard to ascend with the 8 in place
  10. It should be a great weekend never mind, just let us know what you come up with and if it does work I'll put in an order
  11. I run a 3m and a 5m lanyard both on ART positioners with the swivels with DMM hardware on petzl grillion stitched rope The 5m stays daisy chained up and clipped into my left side lower rings on the treemotion and the tail end clipped to a caritool on my back. It stays out of the way really well i can't recall a time its snagged on something
  12. Hey Drew I saw on another post that you'll be in port mac for the woodvale comp, i'll be there with some mates do you reckon you'd have anything knocked up by then
  13. Its still retrievable just put what ever you want on the carabiner throwline, tail of your climb line any thing either before it goes up or when you make it to your TIP. I bought some 5mm cord especially for this, if you send it up with the cinch and you work the tree with redirects if you keep the smaller line parralell to your climb line through the redirects (as long as you aren't making them super tight) it'll pull straight out. Works well for me
  14. Mark, its basically the same as a Ddrt climber wanting an eye splice, just to eliminate knots it's hard to see what i'm trying to do if you dont use the double fig 8 cinch
  15. If its possible it'll favor the guys who use the double fig8 or double bowline TIP cinch, the idea is that there is no carabiner contact with the tree so no cross loading and no cambium/bark damage since its 100% rope contact. The way i work at the moment is to shoot as high as i can with a throw line, isolate a limb and tie a double fig8 lock the rope in between the eyes with the biner and send her up. If i got my TIP first shot i work the tree as normal bottom to top of not i work my way to the TIP just like Ddrt unclip throw higher clip in work up etc. when ever i make it to the top is when i set the system up for retrieval. Which is pulling the tail of the rope up and attaching it to the bottom of the biner so it forms like a big endless loop (please keep in mind whilst this may not suit how you guys work this is how I work and if the stitching idea isn't of value to any one else i'll gladly pay to have my lines stitched) once on the ground i pull the other end of the line and the system comes down. The merits of getting your TIP first go is that you aren't dealing with your tail dangling around while you work your way up, but its not that bigger deal anyway. The rest of my idea is to use a chinese finger trap like snare on the bottom of the the biner to make the whole system streamlined and knot free
  16. Cheers Ewan, i've thought about using a monkeys tail but i like to be able to clip in and clip out of it quickly especially if working my way up a tree. The idea is to have my stitched eye at the end of my climb line if i get my TIP first shot, great i send my end up and work the tree bottom to top, once i'm at the top i set it up for retrieval and come down, if i can't get my TIP i can aim for a lower one send up the cinch and work my way up as if you would Ddrt clip in clip out throw higher so on and so on until i'm at my TIP, i've been using the double fig8 for a couple of months now and pretty much have it figured out but retrieval can be a pain with that big knot, having the 2 eyes all stitched up and heat shrink wrapped would look super sexy plus getting it back down would be so much easier. This is only the first part of my idea if this works well i'm hoping to put the second part out there and make a quick, easy and efficient SRT TIP anchor system
  17. Drew, that'd be fantastic! I really hope you can find a way to make it work, it may not be preferable for most people but man it'd make the way i work much better
  18. Sorry to revive an old thread but i've come up with a stitched SRT anchor cinch that i wouldn't mind some feedback on i'll just chuck up the pics let me know what you guys think Think of the res tape as clear heat shrink, and how it is around my arm is how it sits on the tree, anyone who has used the double fig8 or double bowline to tie off will know how it works Thanks Nick
  19. This is how it sits on the tree
  20. The biner never cross loads thats the idea behind it, the biner is only in there to bridge the gap to make the loops into a closed cinch, the biner never touches the tree causing no damage to the tree its around, its 100% rope contact with the tree.
  21. For a while now I've been mulling over this idea, I usually use a double fig8 to cinch my SRT line at my TIP so i've come up with this Think of the red tape as heat shrink to hold it all tight together, the pictures are for example purposes only. Let me know what your ideas are and CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms and i'm not interested in creating the big Ddrt vs SRT argument I'm just looking to come up with a solution to cinching with out having to use the bulky fig8 Thanks Nick
  22. Have a look at his srt traverse thread, what more do you want lol, my argument isn't Ddrt vs SRT but more that i have found a new system and i'll never go back to Ddrt but to be come comfortable and semi proficient with SRT it has taken a fair while and ALOT of trial and error lol
  23. I watched the video yesterday, today i worked 3 big tallow woods from the 1 TIP just swinging from one to another and clambering up the trunk to set a redirect. Once on the ground i looked back up and remembering your vid realized i could have made the traverse so so much easier by bunching up my tail to chuck to the next TIP and swinging in under it to re-tie in lol. Anyway great vids!
