  1. I haven't followed this too deeply, but did he just find the bikes and go in, leaving others to discover that everyone was in there?
  2. What makes you think that?
  3. The gearbox is straightforward, just a couple of circular cams. A parts diagram would be useful but if you undo the cover carefully (support the blade so it doesn't lever the workings out) it's obvious how it works. But before that, have you tried adjusting the bolts that hold the blade parts together? You might have a build up of stuff/rust between the component parts which is creating too much friction for the engine/gearbox. Try slackening the bolts and see if it resolves the problem. If it does you might have to disassemble the blade to clean everything properly but it isn't too difficult. Don't forget the spacers on the bolts when you reassemble.
  4. Once, after disturbing a bees nest in a cavity. They were inside my visor, up my trouser legs, everywhere! I descended so quick, grounds man thought I'd fallen
  5. I doubt it on a semi mature tree, with a reasonably normal rooting environment. Locally, the only drought stress visible seems to be the newer plantings and moderate sized birch. More mature trees don’t seem to be suffering yet. Most of our highway trees planted over the last two winters are almost dead.
  6. The leaves do look like herbicide damage tbh. i don’t know why but sycamore does seem quite susceptible. We poisoned a nearby tree after using glyphosate on a sycamore stump. The leaves discoloured and fell off within 2-3 weeks and we assume that there were root grafts between the two.
  7. I wondered where Matelot had gone, God's smitten him!
  8. Park a strange van in central London now, you’ll have the anti-terrorist squad knocking on the door.
  9. You’ve missed the boat, it was drawn over the weekend
  10. Business start up opportunity?
  11. Wishful thinking?
  12. Groundhog day?
  13. Bosses son had an E-type which, allegedly, got crumpled when someone added a bit more than needed
  14. I suspect that there are less 'practical types' coming along though - having recently had to teach a sixteen year old how to use a tape measure
  15. Just reading the news headlines and came across the 'Department for leaving the EU.' I honestly thought it was a wind up, like Monty Python's 'Ministry for for Silly Walks' The situation with this Novichock (Sp?) death won't help much either.
  16. The first tree company that I worked for in the 80's used to use dynamite to remove stumps before stump-grinders made their appearance.
  17. Like Bank Holidays don't cost nothing!
  18. Don't know what you're doing Steve to raise the profile of Arbtalk, but by reckoning 38% of the votes are new members (1st Post), 51% are <5 posts and 57% are <10 posts Your SEO methods must be improving
  19. Fixed that for ya
  20. Flaking bark is just symptomatic of age, new bark is formed annually form beneath and the older external face moves outwards cracking into plates and eventually wears away or sheds. The red staining? Do you mean that appear on the fresh cuts or oozing from the bark? (can't see in the photos)
  21. Don’t everyone get a good hair cut when it’s hot?
  22. Around Manchester and Saddleworth I'm see it less frequently. Where it's present on older trees they appear to be coping and there's very little recent flux or staining. Leaf miner and Guidnardia on the other hand are almost ever present
