  1. Can I make a plea, that anyone who says change this or that setting, either adds a link that walks you through it or explain it in detail to enable us IT illerates to do it😀 Lots of good advice, but useless for someone like me who barely manages to turn the pc on and off:lol:
  2. Only the ones I don't want to quote.
  3. Having felled hundreds of bark falling off, twigless, rotting n decaying elms, my opinion is they don't - until big bits of wood start falling off. I know of probably two dozen poplars, over 6-7 sites, with the top twenty feet dead and barkless. All are either close to roads or very close to property.
  4. Has anyone offered to do it for the wood yet? TBH, it doesn't look like that much of a job, £500-600
  5. The last time the soil dried here was probably 1976, being on the foothills of the pennines in Saddleworth.
  6. Sorry to derail and maybe the biochar issue deserves another thread. A client asked if the thirty quid a bag biochar she's chucking around the garden is worth it (ornamental planting). She's composted leaf litter, prunings, vegetable kitchen waste etc for twenty odd years and it's probably a clay soil. I think she's wasting her money because I think her soil should be relatively good and nutrient rich. i.e a natural(ish) soil. Thoughts?
  7. If you'll come from France to do that for £480, your welcome to it:lol:
  8. Ya forgot satellite reception, being so big they're dangerous and birds in them messing on the car, washing line and patio
  9. Depends how much they want the trees gone.
  10. Could anyone email me a copy of the scenario for the assignment SDI 54 AC2.1 from the portal. I can't access it at the moment, and wouldn't mind getting stuck into it this weekend. It's the one with the crack monitoring information, two oaks etc Many thanks
  11. Are you changing your name to Felixthewoodcutter now?
  12. 2nd the classroom option, you'll learn loads from the (sometimes lively) discussions. I'm at Syston in the AM, joining the current L6 class because I got behind with my assignments (works and illness) so going back for a refresher. I think Jake's understating the soooooo much work it's that and a bit more.
  13. As were you...... but it's the way of the world now.
  14. Come on Mike, tell us what you really think:biggrin:
  15. Good luck with the why. I'm surprised to see the manifestation. Any thoughts on attempting to treat/mitigate the slime flux?
  16. Ooops, I thought we'd deviated to vandalism in general (and cute dog pics:biggrin:) Okay, now that has taken someone a lot of effort & encouragement to get a dog to do that. Getting mine, current and past, to play tug of war with a stick or hanging branch wouldn'y be difficult. But to gnaw on a stem IMO would take some concerted effort to teach. Why? I can't begin to think what benefit to the dogs abilities they believe they are achieving
  17. What's caused on those? Looks like someone has set to with a knife. How totally and utterly pointless:thumbdown:
  18. Whole-heated agree with Mr Johnson.... and if we're posting dog pics:biggrin: Haven't a cute one to hand, but they can be and are.
  19. And AC Price... But realistically Unimogs and cheap don't really go together. We're in the process of replacing the planetry gear in the gear box:001_rolleyes:
  20. Sorry, I was typing on my phone (which I don't really like), so if I came across abruptly that wasn't my intention. I've built a terrific library over the years, spending thousands of pounds and I know at least one on here who buys a lot more. (But he's getting married soon so that may stop:biggrin:) I don't think if you've got some basic books - Shigo, Mattheck, Matheny etc that it's worth buying more until you actually know what subjects you specifically need and can't find what you need online. I've probably got 500+ websites saved in Favourites from coursework. If you get a reading list, Abebooks and Bookfinder UK are really good for used books, but you do need to check that your buying the edition you think you are (as I've found out to my cost) And most of all, ASK on here. There's a wealth of knowledge and experience here, no-one will write your answers but everyone will give you a place to find what you're looking for. Don't forget to say thank you! I think also someone has set a facebook group for one of the levels, not sure which one, to provide mutual assistance. Try to keep up and don't get behind with the work, enjoy the learning experience cos it opens up whole new worlds and the realisation that climbing is only a part of the industry. (I did 30 years of that) Good luck.
  21. Just ordered some Felcos, courtesy of Kev Stephenson generous FR Jones voucher prize - So thank you Kevin, much appreciated, and FR Jones for sorting the purchase efficiently Edit: Sorry forgot, and you Steve and everyone else involved for organizing the whole thing.
  22. Oh well, loose chipper on trailer ONLY doing a couple of lights isn't bad. We managed to lose a tracked one off the side of a trailer (driver was a complete knob). Damage to the trailer and chipper, but we were lucky that it didn't hit another vehicle- we did shut the village down for half hour though:blushing:
  23. How hard are you prepared to work and how much time are you prepared to devote to it? It's all do-able. Join the Arb assoc to assess all the journals, lots of stuff on the ISA website too.
