  1. Decided that the yard needed some well earns attantion today. Here are some before and after pics. D a tree surgeons has the rest of the pics from this morning.
  2. Thought i would post a pic of my current bench at the moment and what it looks like compared to gardenkits. It's currently part of d a tree surgeons workshop that I'm using. The best part is I'm under negotiations to get a good size workshop, so hopefully I will be set up very soon. Watch this space. And I will stop bringing saws home and stripping them on the coffe table.
  3. Where abouts in kent are you??? Chances are the bore/cylinder can be cleaned up and all you need is a new piston (meteor). Spud is excellent when it comes to these although I do believe he is fully booked up as arbtalk is making him work for it.
  4. But he didn't say an extra hour. He said the last hour of work. So it comes back to your getting paid to do a job. Or try doing the first hour of the day logging. At least they get nice and warm before starting.

    048

As far as I'm aware the 048 is obsolete. Parts are a nightmare. D a tree surgeons uses one send him a pm if you like. I can't really fault his one. It's a good saw. Heavy but good. I've fixed his before, and he had the exhaust fixed before I knew him. His is starting to get tired and not as powerfull anymore. The anti vibe parts are wearing out and it does vibrate a bit.

    404 chain

One size wheel on the grinder does the chain all the way.
  7. Si. Don't tell me. It's one of those space shuttle arb trucks.
  8. Don't forget to post when it all goes downhill now won't you.
  9. Not to my knowledge. Just throwing the four mix out there. But is there a decent two stroke that has the power of the four mix?? And power as in torque not speed?
  10. What's wrong with spending the last hour logging. A good end to the day IMO. Plus you can get a nice cuppa aswell. Beats slogging guts out to get a job finished in the dark.
  11. What grinders you got. How big a stump will you do? Welcome to the site.
  12. Gardenkit is Devon. And a fantastic bloke IMO. Give him a pm and have a chat.
  13. My guess would be all the lines around the trees. Or it was a really lazy day...
  14. There ok. We had to source from a components shop. They are the same engines as a Renault master van. The rest of the truck. Body chassis etc is easy to work on and welding it up. Had to have an exhaust made up by a garage once as we couldn't source one. The vans have been awesome and had no breakdowns in them. D a tree surgeons will tell you more. I'm just going by driving them and keeping them maintained.
  15. Too true. Especially when they spring out from the pliers and drop into the crankcase Then you have to try and turn the saw upside down without trying to drop the cylinder off and have to reset it all. The best advise I can give anyone trying this would be to clear a big space on a bench and lay down a cover, either a dust sheet or old bed sheet. Take plenty of pictures so you can refer back to them as to the rebuild. And the most important thing is to take your time. Set aside a morning and if you have to go out them leave it until you come back. Nothing worse than trying to rush a delicate bit because you are about to go out.
  16. Urgh the stihl four mix pole saws are pants. There is many people who have had problems with the four mix engines. One has been sat on the bench for ages as I'm trying to figure out the running problems with it.
  17. Oh a smoke jumper. Think I will have to add that one. Saw a film years ago about them.
  18. Ok so what would be on your arb bucket list. What jobs do you want to experience before the end? For me it has to be using a fella buncher, skidder, and doing some skyline working. Also felling some extremely large redwoods. This is on my bucket list of jobs I would like to do. I do plan on trying to do some of them. Maybe the redwood one is not going to happen. But it's nice to dream.
  19. I'm never going to hear the end of it with that one in the mud am I
  20. This question can only be answered by one person.. Your son. A forum cannot answer this question. How much does he want to get paid from it, how much fuel is he going to use, what are his vehicle running costs, how far does he have to travel. There have been a lot of how much type questions asked on this forum. IMO the only person who can give a price is the person asking the question. Sorry to sound a bit blunt but its my opinion.
  21. As stated. The bar can be turned upside down or either way up if you like. The top hole as you are seeing it is for when you turn the bar. Give it a try. It will all become clear. Welcome by the way.
  22. Why did you do it? Was it needed or a case of cause we can??
  23. I never get why they ask arb companies to do this type of clearance work. Obviously they are going to have machines in to dig out for hard standing and walkways. So why don't they just get the driver to rip everything out and level the ground. I remember when building sites used to just push trees over and break them up into pieces for the hiab and truck to take away.
