1. Which models have a folding guard? Is a retro fit feasible?
 2.
Chris, Yes Ty Unnos has one on his 835, and seems happy with it, cheers Ben

 3.
Chris, I took the plunge today and bought a Uniforest 35M after some more encouraging words from Ty Unnos - he would wouldn't he! Looking forward to having a go over the w/e. Thanks for your help, Ben

Chris,

I've seen a 3.2t Igland and 3.5ton Uniforest, agree the latter is a lot more beefy, and only £50 more than the Igland. So presumeably it will winch better but extra 90kg may reduce tractor's skidding ability? Do you think my Dexta with front loader ( about 1.9t) will cope with a 245kg winch? I gather that Uniforest is made by Krpan in Slovenia. Thanks for your help, Ben

Hi Chris,

Are you using the Krpan on the 28hp Landini (2840 weighing 1200kg?)? Do you have weights on the front? Thanks Ben

Hi Chris,

So it sounds like your enthusiasm for the Igland has wained a bit! I am attracted by its low weight, 100kg less than Uniforest 35M. Did you bend the Igland?! You say the Krpan is stronger, I see the 3.5E is 258kg. I wonder why it pulls better - lower gearing perhaps or better pulley angles? Many thanks for your help, Ben

 7.
Hi Matty, thanks for the v useful info. Good to know a 3tonner is a useful size. My Dexta's brakes are good, just been done. Sounds like it's worth paying the odd £100 more for a winch in good order. By remote you mean remote control? Thanks Ben.

Hello,

How do you like you Igland 3201 winch? I'm think of getting one. Any advice appreciated. Ben

 9.
Hello, I believe you have an Igland 3t winch on your IH275. I'm thinking of putting similar (Igland 3201) on my Dexta, which is roughly comparable size/hp with your IH. Can you recommend such a combination? We have a wood witha lot of windblowns, narrow access and don't want to make a mess with big machinery. Happy for it to take a year or two to get them all out. Any advice appreciated! Thanks Ben

 10.
Hello Tom, How did you get on with the Igland 3201? I'm thinking of getting one? Is it big enough? Regards, Ben

 11. Is there a recommended length for oak / beech saw logs, say 10ft, 12ft, as long as poss, .....?
 12. Which Solo do you have? They're alot cheaper than Berthouds!
 13. Sorry to bump an old thread, but has anything changed in the last 6 years? How are the CPs, Berthouds and Solos holding up?
 14. Interesting! As you say a 'Pipe Fascine' The outer pipes are connected together and the whole bundle rapped in netting. Perhaps for a log fascine, cargo straps could be put around the bundle to stop any logs escaping sideways up the banks, on either side of the stream.
 15. Can anyone advise on building a temporary log bridge? I need to bridge a shallow but rocky 6ft wide stream, gently sloping banks, suitable for a tractor and 5T trailer. Plenty of logs available 1 - 2ft dia and 20+ ft long. Any advice /pics appreciated. TIA
 16. Got my Stein kit as above from FR Jones - very good service. Cleared about 400yds of phone line, worked a treat. With 3x6ft poles can reach to 20ft, if a bit wobbly. Once it's on the branch no problem sawing or pruning. Both saw and pruner (secateurs) are essential. Pruners good for 2" brush and saw whips through branches 3"-4" maybe more. One point, I managed to avoid getting the saw trapped in a partially cut branch, but imagine it could happen Since one can't do an undercut, is there a technique to ensure that doesn't happen? Overall, good kit and good advice - thanks
 17. FR Jones say Steiner kit is interchangeable with Jameson. Think I'm gonna get the following Stein kit: Stein Pole kit 2 (pruner double pulley & rope, 2x6ft poles) Extra 6ft pole Saw head + 390mm blade Total £164.05 ex vat Sound sensible?
 18. I need to clear some wires running through trees about 20ft up. Think I need a silky-type pole saw for the larger limbs with a rope-operated secateurs to cut the smaller stuff that's too bouncy to saw; hopefully one tool with both attachments. Any suggestions gratefully received. TIA
 19. Wear and tear from rubbing branches BT (Openreach?) fix for free? Is this still the case?
 20. I got a T27 screwdriver. Pipe refitted and saw now running like a champ Many thanks to all!
 21. Just had a go, but my standard socket set attachment is too fat to go down the hole to the top two screws. It seems the screws are Torx T27. Do I need a Torx screw driver or slim line socket or what...? Is there a magic screw driver set that does all things Stihl? TIA
