  1. It makes me wonder.... why is it that someone who can barely speak English is allowed to operate a fuel station, with all the potential health and safety risks associated with it?
  2. Is there anyone who would possibly be available for a day of dragging branches a distance of about 30 feet to keep base of a tree clear? We're working on a big pop (100ft +) and a lot of it is being rigged down. Climber sorted (he's very fast), me on ropes and with saw on ground, but the extra bod to move stuff is now tied up on another job. I've got someone else lined up, but bit worried in case he blows me out at last minute. Is there anybody who might want a day at very short notice. Must be strong/fast. No saw required, though would be a bonus. Must have helmet, unless you want to wear one of mine! I have Employers Liability insurance, but doesn't cover tree felling/lopping so you will be strictly on ground out of drop zone during cutting. Cash paid (a good amount!) Drop me a PM with phone number and I'll call you in morning.
  3. The main drought down here is in my house. The Mrs went shopping, and because she's off the wine she forgot to get me a bottle! Pulling me hair out now....
  4. Those poplars look 'topped' to me. I've got a client who wanted some pops significantly reduced in height, but rather than 'topping', which opens the tree up to infection through wounds that can't heal, and also causes a huge abundance of new growth, they're being properly 'pollarded' instead (single stem with neat crotch at top, and just a short side branch or two). The good fella doing it is leaving them in a condition that will make it easy and safe for them to be climbed by the next climber who will have to go up with a Silky to maintain the pollard.
  5. In rock climbing, it's usual to use the free leg to push away from the rock face to get your ascender over a ledge. Same would be true here wouldn't it? Push away on trunk while shoving ascender past the limb. Unless you're further out and can't reach the trunk!
  6. List it for a bit more than you want, but select the "best offer" option as well. That way, you'll get what you want for it. Trouble with 99p start is that it's a bummer when there's not enough bidding and you get much less than you want. I've had this happen to me before - expected a couple of hundred for a desirable video camera (based on what others were selling for), and only ended with £70 as it seemed everyone who wanted one had already got one!
  7. Very interesting, but I prefer to work out how Dolmars are built

    Baby names!

If I saw "Tybias" written down then I'd probably pronounce is "Tibias" or "Teabias". Could shorten it to "Ty", which I like. "Riley" is a good name for a boy - not too common. So is "Eden" - suits boys and girls.

    any old oil

I shoulda said in my earlier posts.... do NOT use oil that is ONLY TC-W3 rated (this is for cool running water cooled engine only). It MUST be minimum JASO FB (FC OR FD better) and/or API-TC rated.

    any old oil

AAARRRGGGHHHHH for crying out loud! The Motul Di Spec oil is API TC rated, it's JASO FC rated, it's ISO-L-EGD rated. It exceeds the requirements of a high revving air cooled chainsaw. It's is not some cheap rubbish.
  11. Morning routine: Pee, Mug of tea, Dump, Banana, Large bowl of porridge, Mug of tea, Pee, Sometimes another dump - all depends really. Go out to truck, then decide I need another pee!

    any old oil

That's Stihl's cheapest oil, HP, sold for a higher price than higher spec'd oils. It's not a case of looking for a cheaper alternative, but rather not paying an inflated price for something inferior.

    any old oil

That's the thing.... a good API TC, JASO FC, ISO-L-EGD does meet the specific requirements of high performance, fast revving, 2 stroke engines, so it is a specific oil. If someone wants to believe that a Stihl engine is somehow different from another high performance 2 stroke engine, and therefore requires special Stihl oil at a much higher price, well..... Heaven forbid someone should go and run a Stihl chainsaw on Husqvarna branded oil, or vice versa.

    any old oil

I know you know these saws inside out, but you're getting more more oil to the bearings at the higher rpm anyway being carried there by the fuel. And max power is below 10k. A JASO FC/ API TC oil is good for 2 stroke race bikes running with max power of close on 50hp produced at over 13k (like the KTM RC125), so where's the issue with a few hp at 10k and max rpm of 13k?

    any old oil

What they are doing is exploiting the "green" image - it's their biodegradable one, so they charge double for it. This is something that Motul don't do.

    any old oil

Look at Stihl HP Ultra.... it's over £20/litre, and is lower spec and twice the cost of the Motul Di Spec. Stihl HP Ultra is JASO FB, ISO-L-EGB, more than 80% biodegradable, whereas the Motul Spec Di is JASO FC, ISO-L-EGD and again, more than 80% biodegradable (82% actually). It's a mickey take, really.

Gardenkit, the oil I use conforms to both, that's why I said to check the ratings. Obviously, one shouldn't go and but an oil only to NMMA specs, but all you need do is check the spec exceeds what's required. So my saw requires JASO FB minimum, the oil I use is JASO FC, ISO-L-EGD and API TC, and it's biodegradable, safer for use near water, and less expensive than Stihl HP. It's common sense. All my machines are clean and wear free, and don't smoke. KM100R and FS85 units get thrashed every single day, and neither has had to have any work for the years I've had them.

    any old oil

To say one is for 2 stroke chainsaws and one is for 2 stroke outboards etc..... it all wrong. It's the ratings you need to look at. Stilhl Ultra is. I believe, JASO FB rated. An oil of that or higher spec will be fine. Makita recommend JASO FC and higher, my KTM motorcycle require JASO FC and higher. The oil I use for both, and for my all my Stihl gear, is Motul Spec Di Jet 2T, which is API TC, JASO FC, ISO-L-EGD rated. The good thing about the ISO-L-EGD means it's very very low smoke and smell, which when the exhaust is in my face is pretty important to me. It's also very clean burning, over 80% biodegradable and the dye is really easy to see in the mix. Also, I get it from Opieoils for not much more than £30 for 4 litres (incl discount) and I fill my own small 100ml bottles, so works out about £0.75 per shot as opposed to the overpriced Stihl one-shots. It really is beautiful stuff.
  19. Dainese back protectors are good for motorcycling etc. Don't see how you could use a decent neck brace, though, without seriously restricting your ability to properly look up and down and around....
  20. Seemed obvious that the OP was after something equivalent to the FS400, but maybe that's just me being simple.....
  21. So it's useful for tupping trees, as opposed to topping?
  22. Won't Stihl cover cost of repair in first 12 months?
