These days when I do mod a saw, I tend to try and go more conservative than hot. I have an 044 that has had nothing but a dual port muffler added and some timing adjustment, and I am quite pleased with it's performance.

I also meant to mention previously the fact that the EPA also makes certain other agreements, 'suggestions', and assertions aside from KwH emissions with manufacturers. Of those, the ones we know well about are making it difficult for unauthorised persons to make carb adjustments. But what was eluded to beforehand, is the EPA have admonished manufacturers to not share this information with customers. They've also agreed not to sell exhaust that are easy to modify as well; such as the old two piece STIHL exhausts.  Some manufacturers have made it difficult to adjust timing, whether due to the ignition system, or the lack of a woodruff key. Some might even tell their retail outlets not to share any technical data or specs regarding emissions.

Wes that little saw you done for me  was very happy with the work you put into it

its still going strong and sounds awesome only addition is I put a spark arrestor gauze

Inspired by to much time on 'you tube' and owning one or two saws in need of attention i have started wondering about sourcing two or three tuned saws.

Ones that I keep to myself and don't let every tom, dick and harry use to cut dirty woody, touch the road, fill with poorly mixed fuel etc. grrrrr

From what i understand a tuned saw can give better power to weight than a standard saw. From those of you experienced with these things which saws show the best performance gains without too much compromise in terms of reliability?

Is it best to have a problem or older saw rebuilt or start with a new saw, forfeit the warranty and 'go for it'?

As a climber I'm particularly interested in saws that mean I can work with better power to weight so which saws tune well?

    At the moment i'm pondering

    a Stihl 150 or Echo 2511

    Stihl 201, Husqvarna 540 ( or a Stihl 200 if i can find a good one.)

Husqvarna 560. At the moment i sometimes use long bars on a stock 560 (it struggles) how much performance gain is realistically possible or would i be better of simply using a bigger saw.

What sort of costs are involved if somebody like spud does the work?

Spud obviously has a good reputation for this work, who else in the UK specialises in this work with a good reputation?

    Thanks in advance

    D

Iam only a couple of miles down the road from you,  come over and try a couple of ported saws

Fair enough. I'm assuming you will be getting more at some point, if so, what price is the doly with battery and charger? Not been overly keen on battery saws due to the cost mostly but having a look online, these appear to be much cheaper than others and if makita motors are anything to go by I'm sure they will be very good saws

Yes they seem too be pretty competitive on price at the moment there’s three prices floating around  body only , saw and battery , complete package

this is a new product and once prices are set and availability is consistent

and Iam 100% happy with everything a price will be set and a delivery time span

Just a quick and very big thanks to Shavey aka AJS Chainsaws. As most of know he runs a very decent Dolmar agency and also supplies some very nice gear from his Ebay shop. I know a lot of stuff on Ebay is over priced over rated rubbish but Shavey's stuff is spot on ! I've just got my second axe from him at pretty much a give away price for the work he puts in hanging them with new handles. It's a pleasure to spend money with him, thanks Andrew !! It will be banging wedges into some pretty decent Douglas tomorrow.

Thanks Dave it always been good dealing with you over the years I appreciate every sale

also @outinthewood has some fantastic videos on youtube
