Your collection is scarily similar to mine! Yes, those narrow tall bodies seem to match my own.  When I have them in front of me I can check, but I put money on those dimensions matching my own.  Thanks for taking the trouble to post the pics mate.

I will have some of these handles back in stock around the 1st week of

april if you haven’t sorted yourself out by then

I've got Sager Chemical, Tru Temper, Collins and a load of others - either proper felling axes, or the cruiser style.  They have a very high, deep but narrow holes (I'm sure I've misdescribed that and murdered the terminology - apologies).  Once I've got myself sorted I'll send some pics.  I've got a whole pile of NOS SA Wetterlings in various patterns too.  Basically a forest worth of handle needs!!!!

yep I get the sizes now here are some photos of the handle size

which should tally up wirth your heads

For kindling I use a no-name DIY warehouse hatchet - great if you use them for that - wouldn't even consider going across the grain with it though - I need a better collection of axes I think,

watch out axe collecting is like saws you could end up with a lot

I use a plane and then a rasping file, that takes a fair bit of wood off but is very controllable. I get the end of the handle to fit then work it down the handle, bit by bit and leave the last part tight so the head needs a real good belt to get it bedded.

The rest is just fitting a well shaped wedge. I also use a god dollop of PVA wood glue over the handle and the wedge to bond it all together.

absolutely spot on not much more too say

just one thing too add if you can get hold of them

is some used farriers Rasps they change them quite often

and there fantastic for thinning down handles

with a coarse side and a smoother side

What's the idea of double bit axes? Why would you need two cutting edges?

Double bits have that long slender cutting edge

especially the Puget heads like the one you quoted

nearly 14” from edge too edge on some of them

so they dont usually get jammed in the cut when your felling

so basically when you have climbed up the tree

you’ve got two sharp edges too fell the top out of the big trees

and the weight and good balance gets it done

    spot on with the Dibber

iusualy go with sand paper and wire brush

and maybe a grinder with a  medium flap disc

or if it’s really bad maybe evaparust does the trick

redline recommended Comma fully synthetic racing 2-stroke oil

which Is very similar in make up as the redline and it’s red
