  1. Well I got the camera out. It may be little late for the OP, but could help others.
  2. You may be interested in this new product. Mitox 3612T Top Handled Chainsaw
  3. Not quite true. Sure, the chinese factory that produces Mitox also produces saws in other names. But they do vary in quality dependant on what the purchaser specifies. Many are sold out with the lowest possible spec for sale in the western world by internet based sellers and mass outlets. The people who sell these on are interested only in profit and neither know, or care about the quality. The late Peter Rochford knew there was a market for a similar product, but built to a better spec and sold with 100% backup. He visited the chinese producers and had them build a machine to his spec for marketing under his newly formed MITOX brand. Peter was an incredible business man with very strong ethics. He was also one of the best, if not the best two stroke technician that I have ever met. In short, 'he knew his stuff.' His standards are still met by the company. No machines from the Mitox range are ever released from the Wincanton premises until every spare part is on the shelf. A sample of machines from every container that arrives is tested, then dissmantled and inspected. Only when Rochford staff are happy that standards have not slipped will any machine from that container be released for distribution to dealers. It is unfair to compair Mitox to some of rubbish leaving china.
  4. If a chainsaw is purchased for use in the kitchen then Aspen is a must! (you know me, any excuse to promote Aspen!)
  5. To have water on top the piston is one thing, but to have oil and water is another For this to happen the engine must have been on its side, or partly submerged. Whatever the cause, drain it out , refill with a 10w 30 or similar oil, see if it will start (bearing in mind the carb and fuel tank may also be contaminated) If it starts, run it for about 5 minutes and change the oil again. Repeat this until the oil stays clear.
  6. In fairness, it should go back to Arb and Forestry. They should have PDI'd that saw before they despatched it (and probably did). They took the profit, they should be responsible for any remedial work. The local dealer, would have PDI'd it AND handed it over to you with full instruction and demonstration of starting procedure etc. You may have paid a bit more, but look how much trouble you could have saved yourself. Its not really fair to expect your local dealer who has not made anything on the sale to put this saw right.
  7. The vat on your first pickup was paid to HMRC when it was bought new. At that stage you were not in a position to claim that back, so you lost it. Subsequent sales will not attract VAT as it has already been paid in full. If a motor trader bought it from you he would not be able to charge VAT on it, so neither can you. The motor trader would however hopefully make a profit on the sale and would be expected to pay HMRC the vat due on that profit. He would account for this on his 'secondhand goods margin scheme'. But this VAT content would not be shown on his sales invoice to a subsequent buyer, so even if that buyer was VAT registered he could not reclaim the VAT content. I'm pretty sure this an accurate description. Its what I would have to do on a mower.
  8. Thats what I thought as well Bob, next time I have one in I will get the camera out!
  9. Make sure the mechanism is in the 'chainbrake on'position first. Insert the nylon spigot into the spring on the mechanism end. On the other end insert a flat screwdriver, one with a slightly tapered shank so that it wedges into the spring. Then push it in until totally above the trough and push it down into place. Hold it down whilst the cover is put on. Then struggle to release the brake.
  10. I had been aware of Aspen for some years prior to first trying it, but had no idea what the stuff was like, either in appearance or smell. So one day a non starting HS45 came in. Whilst the guy was in the shop I took the cap off to check, and sniff, the fuel. As you do. " What the hell have you got in here?" I asked. He looked bemused, and said he had no idea, his gardener always gets the fuel. "Well, its certainly not petrol" I said, "It will never run on that" Emptied it and refilled with petrol mix, but it still did not go. A spark test revealed the common coil problem. I only remembered this when I opened (and sniffed) my first can of Aspen, years later. I then felt a bit foolish. So, I can forgive the ignorance of others, I was once that person.
  11. So you did, Eddy. And I have sent them! Obviously Aspen does not improve my memory!
  12. If you want some stickers Eddy, you will have to PM me your address!
  13. Nice project Dean. If you change your mind, could you put it back together?
  14. All stamped and ready to go:biggrin:
  15. I have plenty. I put them on every serviced machine that goes out with Aspen in the tank, so get through about 1000 a year. Red ones for two strokes, blue ones for 4stroke. They are good quality 'foil' labels. They stick well to any degreased surface. I can spare you a few Eddy, just pm me your address.
  16. haha...small world is it not? i can send you some stickers in the post, but please pop in and see us anyway.
  17. Good frosts and heat waves see them off! Shame is that the ground is hardest then.
  18. Seriously, I know a couple of guys who do it. Depending on the soil type (and effort) there is very good money in it. They do, however pride themselves on a very tight fit. Apparently the 're-openings' are the most fun.
  19. Thats what I call die-versification:biggrin:

Good man! Better view from up there, no splashes on the windscreen. Bit more motion though, but more fresh air to counter any sick feeling. Best hold on tight in the event of self righting though.
  21. Colaton Raleigh nr Sidmouth, carpenter. I will send you a PM later.
  22. If anyone wants stickers send me a PM with your address and we will post you 10 stickers, FOC of course.
  23. Thats one for Steve to answer, carpenter. But its the delivery cost that kills it for 'distance' selling. The lowest prices are by the pallet, or drum. You would get a discount and free delivery. Barrie
  24. Welcome to the forum, navman. Its great to hear that you see the benefits of Aspen. As regards discounts, whilst there are some dealers that discount it a little, there are more who do not discount it all. I only offer my regulars a little discount if they buy 9 plus cans. This is because there simply is not enough margin in it to discount on lower quantities. I defend this stance as I run my business to a tight policy on profits. I also sell more Aspen than most other dealers, so the price is not really an issue to many users. Some of the cheap prices that are mentioned by some posters are from dealers who do not sell much and are still shifting pre price increase stock. As the product does not go stale quickly, old stock is not an issue, so if you can get a deal of this sort, go for it, but consider it a one off, I will bet it will not be repeated. Where in the country are you?

Nice one Richard. Did you helm from inside or up on the roof like a real lifeboatman:biggrin:
