This is true . My latest did not come off until 8 months . I have found with spaniels you are constantly training them until the are near retirement . Working Cockers anyway .

As an aside . Is it a Mk 1 ? If so you might as well replace the belly pan and rear AV spring with the updated parts while it apart . If its a Mk 2 then you will have all that already .

The above is true . ( I use pliers on the thumb screw ) Other than that I have found , dependent on wood species , the amount of wallop required to make it stay in the log differs . Some you need to clout it hard to make it stay and in others if you clout it hard it bounces out but will stay with a lighter tap .
