  1. Customs won't be too bad, you'll pay 20% VAT and I think that's it... From HMRC site: All other goods If you order or send purchased goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you: •don't have to pay Excise Duty •may have to pay Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135 •will have to pay Import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15 Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under. I don't think I paid duty on the saw I brought in from the US, just VAT, all in that cost £220 ish, with VAT, carriage etc. And I love how HMRC can't bring themselves to type 'Eau de Toilette' and refer to it as 'toilet water'... god love the civil service...!
  2. Have you tried CMI direct? Ascenders -- CMI Corporation
  3. It must be borderline... although in it's principal application it will not be for life support, I think that may be limiting, if it's certified then it leaves users free to experiment with it and, if they find it can be used as life support then it can be LOLER'd with the rest of it and all done properly... I'm always wary of something which states 'Not PPE' on it anywhere in my rig....
  4. Tying yourself to something which isn't tied off is always a great idea....!
  5. Thanks! What's the testing or certification required to sell in NZ? The equivalent to our CE marking? And how would I go about getting type approval or whatever it is...?
  6. Can you not? I didn't know that, I'll remember that....
  7. I hate BT, with a passion, I think they're a bloody shambles and don't deserve to be in business.... When I had problems with them I wrote a stroppy email to these guys.... '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]' It was Michael Rake who got back in touch and hooked me up with someone in his office who sorted me out in the end. Straight to the top boys, no messing!
  8. I don't think you've done anything particularly wrong, and I think many of us would have done the same in your situation. There was afterall still the potential for a job out of this, and there may still be... the neighbours may really appreciate how you handled the situation and recommend you to loads of good future customers. Every situation presents an opportunity, sometimes just to be a good citizen. But keep doing what you're doing.
  9. I save my whipping for my wife.... I'm kidding of course.... I wouldn't dare
  10. Not sure really, depends on the expert! Hopefully in the next week or 2....
  11. What?! YOu mean a tape sling already exists ?! If it works, there will be some in the raffle.... if it doesn't then there will just be 1... the prototype... and hope you don't win it!
  12. So you should be.... and when it finally comes available you won't be able to help yourself but buy 3...! , In the 'fairy' thread, where I admitted to being a bit of a failure on a VT & HC, some problems inherent in that arrangement were raised, pull down point, tending slack etc. So, being an insufferable fiddler & doodler, I have come up with a 'something' - [it does now have a name but I'm holding back on that one still aswell...] - which will THEORETICALLY resolve all those problems, improve safety, make you tea and ensure world peace, all in a shiny British made package.... In all seriousness though, early indications are that it can be integrated into closed hitch, open hitch, aerial rescue [srt & ddrt] and rigging [principally MA tag lines]. I also have a feeling that multiples of them could be a could potentially be connected to create a fiddle block type set up, but I'm going to have to think that one through a bit more. Could this be the most useful creation since 'THE ROPE' for tree work... Probably not, but I want at least 2 in my kit..... chances are I'll end up with thousands of the darned things....
  13. It was sold by the full metre when I got mine so I bought 3m and cut it in half myself using a weed burner and stanley knife to make 2 e2e's ....
  14. I didn't see the point of the DMM pulley being in that system, it seems to me its only benefit is reducing clutter on your bridge.... So far as my experience goes, the pulley is superflous in most instances, it's the rigging plate which makes the difference.... Of course, I'm going to try to make the HC pulley work for a living....
  15. Hmmmm, June.... I reckon that might be doable....
  16. Hmm, allow approx 300 to 400mm for each fisherman's to both ends. I think this length was 1.5m long & it's now an 80cm eye to eye in 9mm Boa...
  17. I have some made with a fisherman's either end for a VT.... I'll go see how long they come out, I can give you a rough idea from that!
  18. Well, I've incorporated this evening, under the somewhat unimaginative name of 'Klime Products Ltd'.... registered in England and Wales donchaknow... Hopefully we shall be on the way to a fully functioning prototype over the next week or two.... then no doubt some fiddling then off to the patent office! The widget now even has a name, but you'll have to wait a bit longer for the grand opening... I'm going to phone my good friend now about doing me a website, making some promo films and so on... [Drew, you know who I mean, you're FB friends...!] so with a bit of luck, and assuming the costs don't blow up in my face and kill the whole thing, there should be something for you all to try [and hopefully buy!] before too long! Hey, I'll have my own banner on the top of here....! The world is our lobster, mange tout Rodney!
  19. We're a bit short round the Midlands. The only one I know of is Buxtons who are a bit further North at Penkridge... I'll be watching this one! Come on guys, anyone know...?
  20. When are the first shows of 2012? If I pull thumb I could get my widget to them....
  21. Has Steve been touching them innapropriately...?
  22. I dislike salad, particularly cucumber. I bought a Ginsters sandwich in a petrol station and discovered while driving away that it contained said devil fruit veg thing. So obviously I did what any normal person with a long drive ahead of them and cucumber in their sandwich would do.... I phoned the number on the packet... Ever heard the 'Welsh pizza' recording...? It was a bit like that. But I did get a £3 Ginsters voucher...!
  23. Thanks guys. Had a good chat with a patent attorney this afternoon, prototyping should happen soon, it's tough keeping the pace up, it's very easy to think, 'actually, screw this, I can't be arsed to sit up every night after work till 1 or 2 in the morning drawing, writing business plans researching crap...' but I do genuinely think this is one of my better ideas!
