  1. Can you not? I didn't know that, I'll remember that....
  2. I hate BT, with a passion, I think they're a bloody shambles and don't deserve to be in business.... When I had problems with them I wrote a stroppy email to these guys.... '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]'; '[email protected]' It was Michael Rake who got back in touch and hooked me up with someone in his office who sorted me out in the end. Straight to the top boys, no messing!
  3. I don't think you've done anything particularly wrong, and I think many of us would have done the same in your situation. There was afterall still the potential for a job out of this, and there may still be... the neighbours may really appreciate how you handled the situation and recommend you to loads of good future customers. Every situation presents an opportunity, sometimes just to be a good citizen. But keep doing what you're doing.
  4. I save my whipping for my wife.... I'm kidding of course.... I wouldn't dare
  5. Not sure really, depends on the expert! Hopefully in the next week or 2....
  6. What?! YOu mean a tape sling already exists ?! If it works, there will be some in the raffle.... if it doesn't then there will just be 1... the prototype... and hope you don't win it!
  7. So you should be.... and when it finally comes available you won't be able to help yourself but buy 3...! , In the 'fairy' thread, where I admitted to being a bit of a failure on a VT & HC, some problems inherent in that arrangement were raised, pull down point, tending slack etc. So, being an insufferable fiddler & doodler, I have come up with a 'something' - [it does now have a name but I'm holding back on that one still aswell...] - which will THEORETICALLY resolve all those problems, improve safety, make you tea and ensure world peace, all in a shiny British made package.... In all seriousness though, early indications are that it can be integrated into closed hitch, open hitch, aerial rescue [srt & ddrt] and rigging [principally MA tag lines]. I also have a feeling that multiples of them could be a could potentially be connected to create a fiddle block type set up, but I'm going to have to think that one through a bit more. Could this be the most useful creation since 'THE ROPE' for tree work... Probably not, but I want at least 2 in my kit..... chances are I'll end up with thousands of the darned things....
  8. It was sold by the full metre when I got mine so I bought 3m and cut it in half myself using a weed burner and stanley knife to make 2 e2e's ....
  9. I didn't see the point of the DMM pulley being in that system, it seems to me its only benefit is reducing clutter on your bridge.... So far as my experience goes, the pulley is superflous in most instances, it's the rigging plate which makes the difference.... Of course, I'm going to try to make the HC pulley work for a living....
  10. Hmmmm, June.... I reckon that might be doable....
  11. Hmm, allow approx 300 to 400mm for each fisherman's to both ends. I think this length was 1.5m long & it's now an 80cm eye to eye in 9mm Boa...
  12. I have some made with a fisherman's either end for a VT.... I'll go see how long they come out, I can give you a rough idea from that!
  13. Well, I've incorporated this evening, under the somewhat unimaginative name of 'Klime Products Ltd'.... registered in England and Wales donchaknow... Hopefully we shall be on the way to a fully functioning prototype over the next week or two.... then no doubt some fiddling then off to the patent office! The widget now even has a name, but you'll have to wait a bit longer for the grand opening... I'm going to phone my good friend now about doing me a website, making some promo films and so on... [Drew, you know who I mean, you're FB friends...!] so with a bit of luck, and assuming the costs don't blow up in my face and kill the whole thing, there should be something for you all to try [and hopefully buy!] before too long! Hey, I'll have my own banner on the top of here....! The world is our lobster, mange tout Rodney!
  14. We're a bit short round the Midlands. The only one I know of is Buxtons who are a bit further North at Penkridge... I'll be watching this one! Come on guys, anyone know...?
  15. When are the first shows of 2012? If I pull thumb I could get my widget to them....
  16. Has Steve been touching them innapropriately...?
  17. I dislike salad, particularly cucumber. I bought a Ginsters sandwich in a petrol station and discovered while driving away that it contained said devil fruit veg thing. So obviously I did what any normal person with a long drive ahead of them and cucumber in their sandwich would do.... I phoned the number on the packet... Ever heard the 'Welsh pizza' recording...? It was a bit like that. But I did get a £3 Ginsters voucher...!
  18. Thanks guys. Had a good chat with a patent attorney this afternoon, prototyping should happen soon, it's tough keeping the pace up, it's very easy to think, 'actually, screw this, I can't be arsed to sit up every night after work till 1 or 2 in the morning drawing, writing business plans researching crap...' but I do genuinely think this is one of my better ideas!
  19. Thanks for doing the survery, and most certainly, it will be unveiled right here on AT! God I hope this bloody thing works....!
  20. Sorry, I don't mean hiding the fact you're charging VAT, ie 'that'll be 450 quid' and sticking VAT on top of it at the end. I mean just quote a price including VAT, just the same as everything else consumers buy. Washing up liquid isn't 79p + VAT is it...? And no, I don't mean customers are niaive with regards VAT, I mean most consumers only think about VAT when we bring it up as a separate thing. If their first thought about VAT was after a job when they study the invoice and see part of what they paid you was VAT, that's no different to looking at the receipt for your weekly shop at Sainsbury's... It's US who make VAT a big deal, not the consumer.
  21. You don't have to tell them you're charging them VAT.... I'd wager most people probably couldn't tell which was more... £415 + VAT or £500 cash, no VAT... As it is there's a tenner in it but as soon as they hear VAT it almost doesn't matter how much it is.... This bafflement can work to your advantage though on occasion....! Of course it does depend who you're working for, I accept that VAT registration doesn't work for everyone, hence the optional status below the threshold. If you work for private individuals and have no plans to change that, then sticking 20% on your prices across the board is bound to do you damage. For those businesses who want to work for more commercial clients, an invoice without VAT looks a bit hick to the accounts department and they probably won't even know what to do with it!
  22. I thought about ripper teeth, but I don't think they're going to achieve the right effect, I think all that will happen is it will pull into the stump when it's big and slip off the small bits at the end. The blade on the original video has quite a wide sharp cutting area, it's a magic bit of kit and quite easily replicated I should say...
  23. Once I get something tangible I'll hook you up Pete. With a bit of luck I might even be able to make it worth your while!
  24. Correct. If your saw costs you £800 + VAT & you're VAT reg'd and you capitalise it over say 1 year, that's 245 working days for sake of argument, that's £3.27 per day. If you can't claim the VAT back that's 3.92 per day. If you have done your sums and are running your business on equal footing, by rights you need to pass that on. So instead of paying 'their' VAT on work done, they just end up paying 'your' VAT on your purchases. I appreciate that the idea is that you earn more than you spend so chargeable VAT should be more than reclaimable VAT, however, I don't think that customers are actually going to be that concerned by another 30 quid on fell & clear up in a morning, so why not have it both ways? You can still let them 'pay cash' too, and then put it through your books properly... I'm strongly considering going VAT registered, even though I'm nowhere near the threshold. Reclaiming VAT would be a useful thing to be able to do for me...
  25. Even I love this knot... easy to tie.... with a small amount of fiddling it runs nicely, grips nicely, tuneable.... I love it... I still rappel on a figure8 just for the fun of it
