  1. Could stand corrected here but i don't think the horse was providing the POWER . Seemed to me he was just using it to excercise the horse as a bonus. Rickety machine and i dont think the horse was enjoying it either.
  2. Forgot about our old friend the Swedish beaver .
  3. Husky ground. Stihl above ground.
  4. I've only been up that way a couple of times and its very barren and bleak. Think there is one or two on here possibly further north than Inverness , would be interesting to know what trees actually flourish up there if any.
  5. Far north pretty barren and treeless anyway. West coast will be hit worst , will see what happens though .
  6. Think it was the tautline hitch from your bowline on to the running end and finished with figure 8 as said. Theres nothing to worry about you will be able to do it blindfolded by the end of the course. Good luck
  7. Back in the eighties there was also work experience where your last ' subject' on a Friday i think , was in the shop floor . It was not taken fully advantage of and seemed to die a death . Its funny to think things really do go full circle.
  8. Just read my first post on this and i feel using the word ' stupidity ' was not right and could be taken out of context. In no way do i refer to the people who use this system as such. Apologies if any offence taken.
  9. What i can remember the prussik was what you learned with and inevitably get comfortable with. I looked for a change because by the time you add slack in your harness, mallion and then karabiner the prussik seemed to be at a very vulnerable position to be cut by your saw hence negating the point of having a wire core flipline. I like Mortens suggestion of the short cut off strap and using the distel or vt knot , good ideas i shall be taking on board.
  10. Use to be compulsory when used with wire core flipline at a well known utilities company. Could never get over the stupidity of this . Rope grab far , far better and safer imo
  11. A video with annoying rock music blasting in your ear i think would have ruined that. The pics said it all , very impressive.
  12. Sightings at cairnhill, west of Ellon apparently a regular visitor. There is also a good picture of one spotted in Galloway which you can see online at ' wildaboutbritain.co.uk' . Interesting about the blackbird grandad, its supposedly one of the commonest birds to show bits of white ( there is a good shot of a white headed one on the same site) and leucocytes aswell.
  13. I came across the albino buzzards on a local wildlife blog. It gave a grid reference as to where they were , i noted it down and if i recall correctly it was near Ellon ( i am a big bird of prey fan and would love to see them aswell ). I thought at first they were talking rubbish and that it might have been an escapee gyr falcon, but the photos confirmed it was indeed a buzzard. I'll try and see what i can dig up ( you could aswell ) as this must be extremely rare. I'm really pleased that someone else has seen the crows aswell ( and before anybody says anything there not hooded crows.
  14. I bet youse make sure rudolph gets his carrot and Santa his whisky
  15. Theres definetely odd sightings going about. Apart from having mature blackbirds with black beaks up here ( as highlited on autumn watch ) I have seen a crow with white underwing coverts , no it wasn't a magpie ! Was a wierd sight. There is ALBINO buzzards in Aberdeenshire aswell, Not light variation. Will post a video on here soon of the amazing thriftyness of buzzards soon !
  16. This is a pagan ritual celebrated over here aswell. I built my own wickerman this year after seeing a pathetic attempt on top of an old Druid hill ( i'm a bit of a pyromaniac aswell ). I have amazing photos with fire coming out the eyes and everything ! Hope to post on here soon
  17. Yeah , take your time and make sure not even a twig goes in the water. you will definetely be watched believe me.
  18. Shame , would have had a good excuse to get a new Husky
  19. Yes it is . Spruce , lets be honest you are not going to go up to Huntly when you run out of fuel even if you are the stoicist environmentalist. Saying that I hope to go up there soon and try this stuff
  20. Thats absolutely disgraceful your insurance being put up and completely unacceptable in this day and age of ' going green' I can only applaud the stance you have taken and hope you can be a catalyst in getting this stuff on our shelves country wide.
  21. Treecreeper, did you read my second sentence? Did you read previous posts stating 60l a shot is not feasible for many of us on here? I hear and agree with what you say but I like many unfortunately cant change the powers that be Seems were at a quandary:confused1:
