  1. It's almost like there is a conspiracy on here to NOT criticise conmen.

Is this a strange attempt to protect 'the industry'

It won't work and shouldn't work.

I'm not saying we're perfect but they fall way way way short of acceptable.

They are local to me and need to be named and shamed and that is what watchdog has done.

Remember it's not just this job- there obviously has been a few complaints to the BBC and this is just the set up- it could have been worse

Oh - and £1600 to jetwash the drive- don't condone that

If we give out the message to youngsters who are on here that this is acceptable practice then .......

    You reap what you sow

I get a feeling I'm in the minority here

No way your in a minority , youve said what has needed to be said . Cant believe there are some people on here that would try and justify those retards.

  2. Ye its good that you can have a choice to buy locally.Gammies must be one of the oldest companies selling arb stuff even though it has changed hands yet again.First dealt with them about 1970.

    Sorry about the thread derail.

They said i could trial any machine i liked and that they would personally deliver anything ,even chain oil to my premises . They were absolutely not pushy trying to sell me anything which i liked and seemed very helpfull so I'll wait and see .

  3. Did they price match jones as i know they do that sometimes?

I've just checked there and the answer is no , they havent managed to match fr jones but i'm determined to use local business whenever i can .. Its rare i use fr jones now and thats nothing to do with their service . The boys at Gammies have been excellent and they seem determined to provide arborists up here with a good service , so hears hoping . :001_smile:

  4. Hi Rob , I am very interested in the response to your thread also . I was looking at it in the Clarks catalogue last night and i am probably going to end up ordering it ( may depend on the response from here though ) . I'm seriously looking at giving this SRT thing a bash :001_smile:

  5. yeah they were happy with what i did, im sure there ask me back again this its the second job iv done for them first one was removing two large leylands.

was done climbing on this job + two smaller trees by 2pm.

im not offended by the comments im grateful for the advice.

    thanks

You shouldnt be offended either , the ability to go up there and do that ( albeit a bit differently) is really admirable and no way a slight on your professionalism or talent :thumbup1:

  6. The main drought down here is in my house. The Mrs went shopping, and because she's off the wine she forgot to get me a bottle! Pulling me hair out now....

You can always make up for it tomorrow ! Had a glass of Italian red tonight haha ( wife in Melbourne ) me doing Shopping

  7. Hate visors in the tree and glasses steam up . I've been guilty lately of not bothering with anything till last week when my eyelid became quite badly swollen as a result of some sawdust. I preach H&S on here religiously so i sort of had it coming :001_smile:

  8. if you are going down that route, i'd say a rig is a much better bit of kit for it, much easier to install and it has a lock so it wont creep. the rig isnt much bigger unlike an ID.

    Jamie

Hi Jamie , it looks a nice bit of kit , at $170 dollars quite expensive . ( didnt know the Gri Gri could creep ) :001_smile:

  9. Thanks for input guys,I've got no previous climbing experience at all. Im assuming the training during the cs38 wont require any previous experience?? Although I am hoping to have a go before hand. I know of a few people who I'm hopeing to persuade to come and give me a few pointers to start with, just need to start getting some gear sorted. (I'm keeping a eye on the "lovely climbing gear" thread.

Most people wont have climbed before , thats why they go on the course ! Its basic climbing youll be fine :thumbup1:

  10. Intersting you say that! When I was there I met a girl called jenny who was Susan Butchers assisstant/dog trainer/feeder etc. This was in 1991, so Susan had just won the Iditarod for the fourth time the year before and was a national hero.

Jenny had a husky called Coon with her at the time, he was a pet not a full on sled dog but he could pull. Coon was short for Racoon but I remember thinking that only in alaska could you go out the back yard and call "coon" without being in some trouble!

Jenny stayed in the mountain where we were for a few weeks and was a good freind. She gave me some iditarod t-shirts, which have long since persihed. Good times!!

Thats a great little story rupe , What did you make of Alaska ? Its definetely on my must do list .. ( sorry for derail ) :001_smile:
